MANNING - Decie Carter, 83, a retired carpenter, died Friday in a local hospital. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church in Summerton. Burial, directed by Fleming and Delaine Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born in Clarendon County, a son of Moses Carter and Lula McKnight Carter. He was first married
to the late Lula Witherspoon Carter and was the widower of Susan Dukes Carter.
Surviving are three sons, Edward Carter, Johnny Carter, both of West Hollywood, Fla., and Wilber Carter of Miramar, Fla.; three daughters, Lucille Bailey of Alcolu, Carolyn Carter of Miramar and Betty Carter of Hallandale, Fla; 20 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

WALTERBORO - John Brown, 54, a former trade specialist with the S.C. Transportation Department, died Sunday in Yemassee. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Nebo Baptist Church, Yemassee. Burial, directed by Maree-Tracy Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.

PEORIA, Ariz. - Paul Kenneth Ferguson, 72, a retired owner of an engine repair shop in York, S.C., died Monday in a Glendale hospital. A memorial service will be held Friday in Youngtown United Methodist Church. Burial, directed by Best Funeral Home, will be in Elem Lutheran cemetery in Clinton, Minn.
Mr. Ferguson was born in Gastonia, N.C., a son of Roy Ferguson and Grace Collins Ferguson. He was retired from the Navy. He was president of the Flying Wheels Motorcycle Club and a member of Youngtown United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Ferguson; three daughters, Leann Odegaard of Starbuck, Minn., Laurie Routolo of Goodyear, Ariz., and Lynda Tyner of Charleston; a sister, Thelma Holland; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Horry County, a daughter of Jesse Shelley and Mary Cooper Shelley. She was a member of High Point Baptist Church and the widow of Jack Johnson.

Mr. Gibson was born in Clarendon County, a son of James Henry Gibson and Mable Williams Gibson. He was the widower of Ella Mae Gibson.

DARLINGTON - Virgil Walker McAlister, 74, a retired chief of architectural engineering with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Mr. McAlister was born in Lake City, a son of Leo M. McAlister and Emma Fountain McAlister. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of the Scottish Rite, the Naval Fleet Reserve and Calvary Baptist Church.
