ST. HELENA ISLAND - David Nathan "Nay" Smalls, 88, a carpenter and former civil service worker on Parris Island, died Saturday in a Beaufort nursing home. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Chisholm Galloway Funeral Home of Beaufort, will be in Dr. White cemetery.
Mr. Smalls was born on St. Helena Island, a son of William Smalls and Rebecca Polite Smalls. He attended Beaufort County schools and Beaufort Technical School. He was a deacon and a member of the House of God.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie Mae Williams Smalls; three daughters, Earlene Eley and Doris S. Adeyemi, both of Boston, and Alethea Smalls of Bowie, Md.; six sons, Nathaniel Smalls of Columbia, James Smalls of St. Helena Island, David Smalls, Ellis Smalls, Eugene Smalls and Timothy Smalls, all of Boston; a sister, Evelyn Richardson of Philadelphia; 26 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

DERA R. CONWAY
GREENVILLE - Dera Robins Conway, 88, a former executive assistant in the construction field, died Tuesday in a Mount Pleasant hospital. A memorial service will be in Greenville at a later date, according to Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Mrs. Conway was born in Sayre, Ala., a daughter of H. Marvin Robins and Exeer Teer Robins. She was a member of Eastland Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Gary T. Conway of Isle of Palms and James M. Conway III of Greenville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

RIDGELAND - Augusta Nettles Fogle, 65, a homemaker, died Tuesday in a local hospital. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Great Swamp Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Sauls Funeral Home, will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Fogle was born in Ridgeland, a daughter of Lewis Nettles and Linnerdean Nettles. She was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church.

RIDGELAND - Helen Juanita Rivers Cohen, 60, a former driver with Beaufort-Jasper Comprehensive Health and a housekeeper with Sea Pines Plantation, died Monday in a Beaufort hospital. Mrs. Cohen was born in Hampton, a daughter of Johnny Rivers and Loumisher Jenkins Rivers. She was a member of Gillison Branch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Dobesh-Warney, 51, a kindergarten teacher with First Baptist Church of Goose Creek and a beekeeper, died Monday at her residence. She was born in Terre Haute, Ind., a daughter of Louis Dobesh and Rosemary McAtee Dobesh. She was a member of Colleton and Lowcountry Bee Keepers Association. She was a member of Northwoods Assembly of God in North Charleston.
Surviving are her husband, Alan E. Warney; a son, Matthew Neel of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Candace Sona of Summerville; two stepsons, Jason A. Warney of Conway and James P. Warney of Turbeville; a brother, Bernard Dobesh of Grand Island, Neb.; a sister, Jean Zaragoza of Hawkinsville, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Moore was born in Williamsburg County, a son of Tom Moore and Susan Rebecca Lambert Moore. He attended Williamsburg County schools. He was a Mason and a member of Williamsburg Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are his wife, Devonia Thomas Moore; two daughters, Linda M. Wolf of Andrews and Marilyn M. Floyd of Surfside; and three grandchildren.
