VARNVILLE - George Gilyard Jr., 66, an employee with Bi-Lo Inc. and WBHC Radio Station in Hampton, died Sunday in a local hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Robert F. Causey Gymnasium in Hampton. Burial, directed by Riley's Funeral Home of Hampton, will be in Ellis cemetery.
Mr. Gilyard was a son of George Gilyard and Leona Gilyard. He was a member of Blunt Chapel CME Church.
Surviving are his mother of Varnville; a daughter, Theresa LaBoard of Cocoa, Fla.; a son, Demetrius Gilyard of Brunson; an adopted son, John H. Phelps-Gilyard of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Jenny Moore and Gladys Jones, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, James Gilyard of Varnville; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Hogsett was born in Huntington, W.Va., a son of James R. Hogsett and Pearl Toney Hogsett. He was a member of Ridgeland Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
