NIMITZ, Ruth
Ruth P. (nee Parks) Nimitz, 94, died on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001 at the Season's Retirement Home, Kenwood, Ohio, where she had lived for 13 years. Mrs. Nimitz was past president of the Cincinnati Medical Auxiliary/Alliance and of the Ohio State Medical Auxiliary/Alliance. She was a member of the Rebecca Motte Chapter of the D.A.R., the Ladies Benevolent Society of Charleston, South Carolina, and the Holy Trinity Church of Kenwood, Ohio.
She loved to travel and was a charter member of the Cincinnati Zoological Safari Club. According to her son, Paul: "Mother was on the first Safari trip to Africa directed by the Zoo; I think it was her favorite trip."
She graduated from Mt. St. Notre Dame and then attended the University of Cincinnati.
She resided in College Hill of Cincinnati and then moved to Charleston, South Carolina from 1971 to 1988 when she returned to Cincinnati to reside at the Seasons. She had many friends in Cincinnati and Charleston. Her daughter, Lois says "that it is an understatement; she seems to know and like almost everybody." She loved to play Contract Bridge and took part in some seven or so sessions a week.
Mrs. Nimitz was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul M. Woodward, Sr., M.D. and by her second husband, Herman J. Nimitz, M.D., her mother, Frances (Parky) Parks (nee Spaeth), her father, Louis F. Parks, and her sister, Holly Clancy.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois Barber of West Chester, and her son, Paul M. (Maxine) Woodward, M.D. of Middletown. She leaves five grandchildren: Steven Parks Woodward of Loveland, Oh., Sue Barber (Rick) Weston of West Chester, Oh., Rev. Grant (Denise) Barber of Oxford, Oh., Marjorie Ellen (Charles) Pitzer of Fairfield, Oh., and Michael (Nancy) Woodward of Middletown, Oh.; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. She leaves two step-daughters, Betsy (William) Dixon, Portland, Oregon and Mary (Sam) Scoville of Leland, Michigan, seven step-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the Christ Church Glendale, Tuesday, November 6, from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. A reception will be held at The Seasons, 7300 Dearwester Rd., off Montgomery Rd. in Kenwood, Oh. following the graveside service. MAZZARINI, Joseph
Joseph Michael "Sonny" Mazzarini, 73, of Ladson, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2001, after a long illness.
Services for Mr. Mazzarini will be private and the burial will be at a later date in Miller cemetery in Rogersville, Alabama.

born on May 5, 1928 in Canton, Massachusetts, a son of the late Dominic Mazzarini and Roseanne Grenham Mazzarini.
Mr. Mazzarini graduated from Canton High School in Canton, Ma. and attended North Eastern College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was retired as a plant supervisor with W.R. Grace.
Survived by five daughters: Kathleen Zawisza of Mansfield, Tx, Karen Derck of Las Vegas, Nv., Daria Mazzarini of Long Beach, Ca., Joann Nakano of Ladera Ranch, Ca., Mary Barnes of Laguna Hills; one son, Jerry Mazzarini of Long Beach, Ca.; one sister, Anita Sass of Lago, Fla.; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also survived by his companion Frankie Grisham of Ladson, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

HASKELL, Evelyn
Evelyn Popham Richardson Pinckney Haskell, 82, wife of John L. Haskell and widow of William Olen Richardson, Sr., and Desaussure Pinckney, Sr., both of Ridgeland, died Saturday, November 3, 2001, at a Savannah, Ga., hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Haskell was born January 27, 1919, in Ridgeland, S.C., the daughter of George Popham and Rosa Dean Popham. She was the retired owner of McTear Cleaners of Ridgeland. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Church Women. She served on the Altar Guild, was a former Ridgeland Baptist Church member, and a member of the senior singers.
Survivors include, husband, John Haskell of Ridgeland; sons, William O. (Billy) Richardson of Lexington, S.C., Charles D. Richardson of Hinesville, Ga.; sister, Mae Gardner of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Tuesday, November 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. Burial in Ridgeland cemetery, Ridgeland. Visitation will be at SAULS FUNERAL HOME, Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m.

William L. Gillard, the son of the late Bennie and Helen Gillard, was born January 3, 1927, in Cross, S.C. He attended the public schools of Berkeley County. He lived in Miami, Fla., all his adult life.
Survivors include, his wife, Ida Mae Gillard of the home; six daughters, Shephard Patterson of the home, Daisy Jackson, Catherine Gillard, Carolyn Gilalrd, Roselyn Godbolt, Gwendolyn Easterling, all of Miami, Fla.; four sons, William Gillard, Jr., Harold Gillard, both of the home, Richard Gillard of Miami, Fla., and Jefferey Easterling of Charlotte, NC.; ten sisters, Daisy Lee of Eutawville, S.C., Viola Jefferson of Cross, S.C., Beatrice Gillard, Charlotte Gillard, Celastine Gillard, Vivian Gillard, all of Woodridge, N.Y., Annie Silas, Shirley Jefferson, Alma Smith, Lillie Merchant, all of Boston, Mass.; 22 grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren.
McRAE, Valeria
MARION, S.C. - Mrs. Valeria Smith McRae, 67, widow of Cecil K. McRae, died Sunday, November 4, 2001, at a regional hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 6, at the Chapel of SMITH-COLLINS FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Devotion Gardens cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
Mrs. McRae was born January 26, 1934, in Marion County, a daughter of the late George Bright Smith, Sr., and the late Fleetwood Maxley Smith. Mrs. McRae was a pharmacy assistant. She was a member of Marion Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. McRae are, a daughter, Lynn Taylor of Ridgeland; a son, Ken McRae of Orangeburg; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Lane of Hartsville and Mable Edwards of Bladenboro, N.C.; and a brother, George Bright Smith, Jr., of Mullins.
Visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
