FLORENCE, S.C. - Sylvia Jean Garfinkle Fass, 90, a former longtime resident of Dillon, S.C., died on Saturday, November 3, 2001, in Albuquerque, N.M.
She was born in New York City, N.Y. She was a buyer for Arnold Constable Department Store before moving to South Carolina where she managed Rosemor Properties in Dillon County. She was a member of Dillon garden and book clubs and was a member of the Beth Israel Congregation in Florence, S.C. Known for her great culinary skills, she was always there to help those in crisis at St. Eugene Hospital, especially those who had no family in the area.
Mrs. Fass, the wife of the late Harry Fass, is survived by her children, Robert Morris Fass of Albuquerque, N.M., and Marjorie Lauren Fass of Ellicott City, Md.; grandchildren, David Fass, Michael Fass, Jonathan Fass, Daniel Fass, Andrew Rabinowitz and Allison Rabinowitz; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Muriel Rad of Plantation City, Fla.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2001, in the Hebrew Benevolent Society cemetery, Church Street, Florence, S.C.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Cancer Society.

McCULLOUGH, Alton
KINGSTREE - Alton Hale McCullough, Sr., 80, died Wednesday in a Charleston hospital.
Mr. McCullough was born in Lane, S.C., a son of John Arthur McCullough and Elizabeth Eason McCullough. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a Naval Flight Instructor for five years during World War II. Mr. McCullough was retired from Koppers Company, Inc., and was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Mr. McCullough was the Mayor of Lane, S.C., for three decades, and was a former member of Lane Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years, where he served as both deacon and elder. He was a longstanding director of the Lane Industrial Development Corp., and was a longtime supporter of the University of South Carolina athletic program. He was a life member of Inglesby Lodge #267 AFM in Greeleyville, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman.
Survivors include, wife, Blanche Gamble McCullough of Kingstree; one son, Alton H. McCullough (Jane) of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Marguerite McCullough Appleby of the Presbyterian Home in Florence; two grandchildren, Alton H. McCullough, III, and Helen Wilson McCullough of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m., graveside at Union Presbyterian Church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at WILLIAMSBURG FUNERAL HOME, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday. WALTERBORO - Mrs. Hilda Hiott Berry, 85, of 115 Weiters St., died Tuesday at a Walterboro hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, at the chapel of the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Jack Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Berry was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late Willie Lee Hiott and Orrie Drawdy Hiott. She was a retired sales clerk for Edward's Five and Dime and was the widow of Harold Berry. She was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church where she was active in the WMU, and was also a member of the Ladies Missionary Group at Tabor United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Millie and Billy O'Quinn of Walterboro, five grandchildren, Michael O'Quinn, Sharon O'Quinn, Keitha Drawdy, Curtis Conrad, and Judy Benjamin, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Pearl Conrad.

WOODARD, Howard
WALTERBORO - Mr. Howard Lin Woodard, 72, of 109 Rose Avenue died Monday at a nursing center in Beaufort. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of the BRICE W. Mr. Woodard was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late Howard L. Woodard and Bernice Stamm Woodard. He was a retired employee with the New York Central Railroad and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Walterboro and was the husband of the late Virginia Woodard.
Surviving are his daughter, Denna Marie Schoolcraft of Indiana, a brother, George Woodard of Walterboro, a half brother, Greg Graham of Ruffin, a sister, Connie Dill of Indianapolis, Indiana, and a grandchild, Paul Schoolcraft.

Mrs. Massalon died Wednesday, November 7, 2001. born in Ashville, NC and raised in Charleston, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Asbury P. and Ada Evans Presnell. She was a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her husband, Daniel E. Massalon, Sr., son and daughter-in-law Danny & Sarah Massalon of Camden; daughter and son-in-law Justine and Pat Patterson of Lugoff; daughter Debbie Roberts of Camden; grandchildren, Lugene Patterson Huffstetler, Jamie Patterson, Deanna Patterson Cobb, Gwen Patterson Bowers, Jennifer Massalon Stimpson, and Deborah Massalon Cawthon; 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Asbury P. Presnell, Jr. and Patrick R. Presnell both of Charleston; sister Dorothy P. Parker of Charleston. Mrs. Massalon was predeceased by a daughter Janis Massalon Crosby and infant grandson.
