JUDGE, JR., Curtis
Curtis Herert Judge, Jr., formerly of White Plains, recently of Charleston, SC died on November 7, 2001 at age 77. He joined R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1965 as Vice President of Marketing and resided in Winston-Salem, NC until he joined Lorillard in 1970. Mr. Judge was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lorillard from 1970 until his retirement in 1985. He served on the Board of Directors for Loews Corp. Following service in World Warr II as a pilot in the Air Force, Mr. Judge received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas in 1947. Following a year practicing law, Mr. Jude joined Colgate-Palmolive Co. Mr. Judge received numerous honors and awards from his peers. In 1981 he was inducted in the N.A.T.D. Tobacco Hall of Fame. He served two terms as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Tobacco Institute, the trade association of U.S. Cigarette Manufacturers. He was married
for 52 years to the late Rosemary Tom Judge. Mr. Judge is survived by two children, Curtis H. Judge, III of Harrisonburg, Va., and Kate Longo of White Plains. Also survived by three grandchildren. Mrs. West was born in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina June 26, 1932 a daughter of the late Rubin Lester and Agnes Cantley Infinger. She was retired as a saleslady in carpet for homes and business and a member of Midland Park Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. West are her former husband and father of their children Richard "Chuck" L. West of Goose Creek, S.C., three sons: Glen Richard West of Goose Creek, S.C., Guy Randall West of Ladson, S.C., Bryon Allen West of Goose Creek, S.C., a daughter: Tammy West Timmerman of Goose Creek, S.C. one brother: Rubin E. Infinger of Greenville, S.C. two sisters: Norma I. Click of Goose Creek, S.C. and Virginia Oliver of Pamlico, S.C., eight grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Dr. Owilender Kennedy Grant was born August 29, 1929 in Colleton County, South Carolina the daughter of the late Carl Kennedy and Eddrie Black Kennedy departed this life November 3, 2001 in a local hospital.
She graduated with first honors from Colleton County Schools and South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC., in Mathematics in 1950. She received her masters degree from the Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, in 1955 and a doctorate of philosophy in Mathematics Education from the University of South Carolina in 1978.
Dr. Grant accomplished 45 years of teaching in the field of education. She was a public school teacher at Colleton High School in Walterboro, SC and Burke High School in Charleston, SC. In 1972, she was selected to be the first black professor at the College of Charleston. In 1977, she was promoted to Project Director for the Upward Bound Program where she retired, she returned to education at Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1986. She became Chairman of the Department of Mathematics and later, Chairman of the Division of Natural Sciences. In her final retirement, she became an adjunct professor at Charleston Southern University.
She married
the late Reverend Canon Henry L. Grant.
Dr. Grant received numerous awards and citations. She was a member of Gamma Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and was bestowed the honor of "Golden Soror" for fifty years of service and held the office of treasurer. She was a member of The Links of America, Incorporated, which she received recognition for twenty-five years of service from the Raleigh Chapter in North Carolina, Jack and Jill of America Incorporated served as president of the Charleston Chapter.
Surviving are a son, Henry L. Grant, II; a daughter-in-law, Constance Jones Grant; two grandsons, Alexander Lacy Grant and Andrew Joseph Grant of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Carl B. Kennedy (Louise) of Columbia, SC., two sisters, Pamela Allen (Samuel), of Barnwell, SC., Darlene Watso (Joey) of New York, and a host of other relatives and friends.
