Jack W. Taylor Sr.
Korean War veteran

JONESVILLE Ñ Jack W. Taylor, Sr., 71, husband of Shirley Belue Taylor of 922 Forest St., Jonesville, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at 10:45 a.m. at Laurens Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Taylor was born in Buffalo Aug. 18, 1931, a son of the late John William and Annie Mae Wix Taylor.

He was a Baptist. Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Duncan Masonic Lodge and the Hejaz Shrine Temple. He was formerly employed with Brown-Bolton-Jolly Mortuary and the Rosemont Plant in Jonesville. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons and daughters-in-law: Jack W. Taylor, Jr. and Freda Taylor of Jonesville and John Anthony Taylor and Lisa Taylor of Buffalo; six grandchildren: Heather, Anthony, Matthew and Barry Taylor, Jerrylyn Listana and Deanne Blackwell and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Union Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Rick Cook. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9. The family is at the home of his son, John A. and Lisa Taylor, 210 Sweetwater Drive, Buffalo. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Spartanburg Regional Office, 555 John B. White, Sr. Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29306. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jackie N. Wentz
Mt. Joy Baptist Church member

LOCKHART Jaquiline Frances (Jackie) Wentz, 65, of 1327 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Jonesville, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, in Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill after an extended illness. Mrs. Wentz was born in Ft. Smith, Ark., on Aug. 11, 1937, a daughter of the late Dale and Mary Ellen Neislar. She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church and was a former member of the Union Junior Charity League.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan A. Wentz of Union; three sons and daughters-in-law, Merritt R. and Lucy Wentz of Union, William Jack and Allison Wentz of Jonesville and Patrick L. Wentz of Jonesville; and nine grandchildren, April Latham, Lisa Wentz, Amber Wentz, Candice Wentz, Jack Wentz, Les Wentz, Bobby Wentz, Lacy Price and Cody Price.

Mrs. Wentz was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia K. Wentz. The family is at the home, 1327 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Jonesville. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Jackie N. Wentz
Mt. Joy Baptist Church member

LOCKHART Jacqueline Frances (Jackie) Wentz, 65, of 1327 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Jonesville, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, in Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill after an extended illness. Mrs. Wentz was born in Ft. Smith, Ark., on Aug. 11, 1937, a daughter of the late Dale and Mary Ellen Neisler.

She was a member of Mt. Joy Baptist Church and was a former member of the Union Junior Charity League. Survivors include a daughter, Susan A. Wentz of Union; three sons and daughters-in-law, Merritt R. and Lucy Wentz of Union, William Jack and Allison Wentz of Jonesville and Patrick L. Wentz of Jonesville; and nine grandchildren: April Latham, Lisa Wentz, Amber Wentz, Candice Wentz, Jack Wentz, Les Wentz, Bobby Wentz, Lacy Price and Cody Price.

Mrs. Wentz is also survived by two sisters and a brother and dear friends Mary Ola and Billy Patrick. Mrs. Wentz was predeceased by a daughter, Cynthia K. Wentz. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Joy Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Allen West.

Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ryan Whitehead, Kip Petty, Pat Blue, Billy Patrick, Scott West, Brian West and James U. Ray. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends today from 4-6 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Joy Baptist Church Building Fund, 657 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, 29353. The family is at the home, 1327 Mt. Tabor Church Road, Jonesville. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Thomas B. Adams
Former Whitmire resident

WHITMIRE Thomas B. Adams, 80, formerly of Whitmire, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, in the Saluda Nursing Center. He was born in Newberry County, the son of the late James L. and Marie Rikard Adams.

Mr. Adams is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lester (Ruby) Adams of Silverstreet and Miss Sarah Mae Adams of Whitmire, a brother, James L. Adams Jr. of Seattle, Wash. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Whitmire Cemetery. Gray Funeral Home of Whitmire.

Matttie L. Adams
Retired Spring Mills employee

LOCKHART Mattie Lee Adams, 78, formerly of 303 South Third St., Lockhart, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at the Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney. Mrs. Adams was born in Kelton Nov. 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Douglas Adams and Marie Bentley Adams Turner. She was retired from Spring Mills, Springsteen Plant in Chester, and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Janice M. Harris of 4738 Jonesville-Lockhart Highway, Lockhart; a brother, William (Bill) Adams of Lockhart; two grandchildren, Sherri H. Sinclair and Scott Harris, both of Lockhart; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Clayton and Jennifer Clayton.

Mrs. Adams was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Adams Inman. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Allan Quarles. Burial was in the Mt. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Bobby D. Harris, Scott Harris, Jeff Clayton, Michael Clayton, Lee Sinclair and Donnie Adams.

The body remained at the funeral home where the family received friends from 1 until 2:30 this afternoon. The family is at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the Lockhart Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 492, Lockhart, S.C. 29364. S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

Essie Jeter
CARLISLE

Essie Jeter, 70, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Whitney Funeral Home. Shirley Johnson Shirley Johnson, 65, wife of Melvin Johnson Sr., died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, in Jersey City, N.J. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Whitney Funeral Home.

Elbert W. Stone Jr.
World War II veteran

Elbert Watson Stone Jr., 89, of 102 East South St., Union, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at his home after a lingering illness. Mr. Stone was born in Union Feb. 15, 1914, a son of the late Elbert Watson (E.W.) Stone Sr. and Susan Allen Leake Stone. He was a graduate of Union High School and a 1934 graduate of Clemson University.

Mr. Stone was owner and operator of Stone Hardware on Main Street in Union until his retirement in 1965. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Mr. Stone was predeceased by a sister, Mary Allen Stone Felder and a nephew, Duncan Stokes Felder Jr. Surviving are two nieces, Susan Felder Godshall and Mary Connor Felder Johns, both of Atlanta, Ga., a nephew Elbert Stone Felder of Greenville; seven great nieces and nephews and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. today at Grace United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Gary Byrd and the Rev. Jeremy Johns. The family is at the home, 102 East South St., Union. S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

P. R. Brown Jr.
Retired Milliken employee

PACOLET Ñ Paul Russell Brown Jr., 71, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He was the son of the late Paul Russell Brown Sr., and the late Mary Doudelock Brown.

He was a member of Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church and U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He retired from Milliken Dewey Plant after 35 years of service.

Surviving are a son, Robert Steven Brown and his wife Annette; two daughters, Nancy Marie Pace and husband Robby, and Nancy Jane Riley of the home; two sisters, Pat Foster and her husband Donald of Union and Elinor Edwards and her husband, Richard, of Augusta, Maine; nine nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Beth Spencer and by Frances Thornton Brown, the (love of His life.) A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel conducted by Rev. Jay Hatchell. Burial will follow in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home.

Honorary escort will be members of the Olin Hodge Men's Sunday School Class of Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church Parking Lot Fund, 160 Limestone Street, Pacolet Mills, S.C. 29373.

The family will be at the home on 240 Sunny Acre Road, Pacolet. Floyd's Pacolet Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Thomas James Cody Jr.
Employed at Torrington Bearings Co.

Thomas James (Jamie) Cody Jr., 35, of 4252 Highway 72 W., died Saturday, Feb. 1, in Oconee County. He was born in Spartanburg and was the son of Laverne Franklin Shetley of Union and the late Thomas James Cody, Sr.

Mr. Cody was an employee of Torrington Bearings Co. He is survived by his wife, Janice Sanders Cody of the home; two twin daughters, Karson Cody and Kelsey Cody both of the home; one brother, Nicholas Shetley of Union; one sister, Amy Cody McCarley of Union.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Lydia Church of God with entombment at Pinelawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the Gray Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Jamie Cody Fund, c/o Gray Funeral Home, P.O. Box 125, Clinton, S.C. 29325. Gray Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

George Arthur Fuller
Self-employed contractor

HIGH POINT, N.C. George Arthur Fuller, 59, husband of Maggie Reddick Fuller, of 507 Hines St., High Point N.C., died at his home Jan. 30, 2003. Mr. Fuller was born in Carlisle May 24, 1943, a son of the late Jack and Ada Mae Gaffney Fuller.

He was a member of St. Stephen AME Zion Church and a self-employed carpenter/contractor. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Ronald D. Fuller and Ricky D. (Ann Marie) Fuller, both of High Point; a daughter, Rhonda D. Fuller of High Point; four brothers, Robert (Mable) Fuller and Roy (Joyce) Fuller, both of Carlisle; William Fuller of Dublin, Fla., and Gilliam Fuller of Staten Island, N.Y.; seven sisters, Helen (Joe) Gist, Daisy Monk, Bobbie (Horace) Lyles, Margaret Fuller, Lillie May Fuller, all of Carlisle; Mary Jenkins of Winston Salem, N.C., and Ethel Fuller of Bronx, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; aunts, one uncle, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends..

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at James Chapel in Carlisle by Rev. Mary B. Kendall. Burial was in the church cemetery. The body was placed in the church at 1 p.m. to await the hour of service Whitney Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Robert J. Shelton
World War II veteran

ROCK HILL Robert Jackson Shelton, 75, of 108 Hillcrest, Rock Hill, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2003, in Union. He was a son of the late Robert A. Shelton and Zelion Ruth Fish Shelton. A World War II and Korean Conflict Navy veteran, Mr. Shelton was of the Church of God faith and was a carpenter.

Surviving are a daughter, Jackie S. Bradley of Rock Hill; five sisters, Truesdale S. Knight and Grace S. Connelly, both of Union; Lottie S. McKeown of Mauldin, Ruby S. Baker of Simpsonville and Roberta Shelton of Rock Hill; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grandview Memorial Park, Cherry Road, Rock Hill.

Visitation will be held at the cemetery following the services. Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29301. Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
