William O. Tingle
Retired from J.P. Stevens

William Owen Tingle, 90, widower of Vera Knight Tingle, of 109 Tingle Circle, Union, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Tingle was born in Locus Grove, Ga., Nov. 1, 1912, a son of the late Owen and Lois Crumbley Tingle.

He was retired from J.P. Stevens, Whitmire Plant, and was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. Mr. Tingle was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are four daughters and their husbands, Sara and Homer Jackson of Ladson; Alice Warren of Jacksonville, Fla., Jo Ann and Bob Lindler and Carolyn and Bobby Brewington, all of Union; 17 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Tingle was predeceased by a son, Billy Steve Tingle. Funeral services will be held 2 p. m. Tuesday at Hebron Baptist Church by the Rev. David Toney and the Rev. Jerry Ford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: Robert Lindler, Tim Brewington, Michael Tingle, Scott Greene, Larry Tingle and Rod Knight. The following are asked to assemble at the church Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Kathy Holden, Hazel Adams, Leigh Treadway and Angie Lillard.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 and will be placed in the church until the hour of service. Memorials may be made to the Hebron Baptist Church Sound System Fund, 143 Hebron Church Road, Union, S.C. 29379. The family is at the home, 108 Tingle Circle, Union. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

Drucilla P. Beasley
Homemaker

Drucilla Parr Beasley, 92, formerly of 116 Carson St., widow of Willie Beasley, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 in Ellen Sagar nursing Home after a long illness. She was born in Union County Sept. 16, 1911, a daughter of the late James and Mary Parr. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Wyatt's Chapel Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors include a nephew, Willie Smith of Spartanburg; a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wyatt's Chapel Baptist Church in the Buffalo community with the Rev. Dr. Jefferson McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m. The Carolina Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.

Ellie Bobo Mitchell
Retired from Conso Products

Ellie Bobo Mitchell, 82, widow of James E. Mitchell, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Union on May 19, 1921, a daughter of the late Elmer and Kate Stevens Bobo of Cross Keys. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church and retired from Conso Products.

Surviving are two daughters, Terri Faye and her husband, Richard (Dickey) Chesnut of Buffalo, with whom she made her home; and Marilyn Teague of Union; one sister, Clara Ward of Union; two brothers, Frank Bobo of Union and Bill Bobo of Laurens; 15 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Chris Carr, the Rev. Trenton Connelly and the Rev. Jayon McKee. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 until 9. The family is at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Terri Faye and Richard (Dickie) Chesnut, 127 Fairforest Height, Buffalo, S.C. 29321. S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.

James A. Brandon

James A. Brandon of 405 Speedway Drive, Fountain Inn, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Greenville. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Union Community Funeral Home. The family is at the home, 304 Porter St., Union.

William T. Going Sr.
World War II veteran

PACOLET William Thomas Going Sr., 84, of 7810 South Pine St., Pacolet, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at White Oak Manor. A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late James Thomas and Mattie Williams Going and widower of Yvonne Fowler Going.

He was retired from Beaumont Mills, was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pacolet, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion of Spartanburg. Mr. Going was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 3rd Infantry Division in the Rhineland and Central Europe.

Surviving are two sons, William T. Going Jr. of Pacolet and Jackie W. Going of Spartanburg; a daughter, Judy G. Knox of Pacolet; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel conducted by the Rev. Joel Gardner and the Rev. Mike McGaha.

Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Pacolet Fire Department, P.O. Box 945, Pacolet, S.C., 29372. The family is at the home of his daughter, 7370 South Pine St., Pacolet. Floyd's Pacolet Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Richard J. Musmeci
Union native

Richard J. Musmeci, 48, of 726 Rice Ave. Extension, Union, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at 8:45 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Musmeci was born in Union on May 17, 1954, a son of the late Joseph Edward and Thelma Janet Webber Musmeci. He was formerly employed in industrial construction.

Surviving are four daughters, Dena Musmeci Palmer of Union, Laura Leigh Musmeci of Wilmington, N.C., Lisa Musmeci Matthews of Dunn, N.C., and April Lynette Musmeci of McConnells; two sons, Billy Joe Musmeci of Waynesville, N.C. and David Shane Musmeci of Walnut Cove, N.C. three granddaughters, Jessica C. Parker, Haleigh C. Palmer and Hayleigh Musmeci Matthews.

The family will receive friends tonight at the home of his daughter, Dena M. Palmer, 108 Boyd St., Union. The S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Steve Webb
Former Bryant Electrical employee

Steve Webb, 61, of 3694 Renno Road died Friday, Jan. 31, at his home. He was born in Joanna and was the son of the late William and Lois Fuller Webb. Mr. Webb was a former employee of Bryant Electrical.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Wood Webb of the home; two sons, Mark Webb of Kinards and Danny Webb of Joanna; one daughter Karen Johnson of Newberry; seven grandchildren; one sister, Beverly Moore of Cross Hill; one brother, Tony Webb of Biloxi, Miss.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Pinelawn Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Joanna Youth Center, c/o Joanna Assembly of God Church, Highway 76, Joanna, S.C. 29351. Gray Funeral Home of Clinton was in charge of arrangements.

CARLISLE Essie Mae Jeter, 70, of 573 Pickney St., Carlisle, died Saturday, Jan, 31, 2004, in Wallace Thomson Hospital. She was born in Union County on Feb. 2, 1933, a daughter of the late Jackson and Budell Booker Jeter. She was educated in Union County schools and was a domestic homemaker. She was a member of James Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Marguerite (Hazel) Mills of Chester and Debra Ann Jeter of Carlisle; two brothers, Rubin (Evelyn) Jeter of Philadelphia, Pa., and James Jeter of the home; a sister, Sallie Spencer of Carlisle; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at James Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnnie C. Edwards.

Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family is at the home, 573 Pickney St., where they will receive friends this evening. Public viewing will be until 7 p.m. today and again from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday at the funeral home. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday to await the hour of service. Shirley Johnson
Union County native

Shirley Johnson, 65, wife of Melvin Johnson Sr., of Jersey City, N.J., died at her home Friday, Jan, 30, 2004, after an extended illness. She was born in Union County Jan. 10, 1939, a daughter of the late Bertha Mae Sartor and Jay Comer. She was retired from St. Francis Hospital in Jersey City.

Surviving are two sons, Melvin (Tawanna) Johnson Jr., and Darnell (Darlene) Johnson, both of Jersey City, N.J.; three daughters, Patricia (Aaron) Parham, Joyce (Brian) Hurley and Tamala (Anthony) Wilson, all of Jersey City; two brothers, David Jeter of Hialeah, Fla., and Lynder Johnson of Spartanburg; two sisters, Emma S. Garner of Union and Gail Coward of Greensboro, N.C.; 15 grandchildren ; seven great-grandchildren; two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Williams Chapel in Carlisle by the Rev. Thomas Worthy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday from 3 until 7 p.m. The family will be at the Whitney Funeral Home, 2212 Santuc-Carlisle Highway. Ellie Bobo Mitchell
Cross Keys native

Ellie Bobo Mitchell, 82, widow of James E. Mitchell, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Cross Keys, May 19, 1921, a daughter of the late Elmer and Kate Stevens Bobo. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church where she was very active in the church as long as her health permitted. She was a former member of the Golden Age Choir, the regular choir and delivered tapes to the shut-ins.

Mrs. Mitchell was over the Meal Group of the church. She loved the Lord and her church and she touched many lives. She was a good mother and grandmother and everyone that knew her loved her.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law Terri Faye and her husband Richard (Dickie) Chesnut of Buffalo with whom she made her home, and Marilyn Teague of Union; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Frank and Elizabeth Bobo of Union, Bill and Mary Kate Bobo of Laurens and Dot Bobo of Union; a sister, Clara Bobo Ward of Union; 15 grandchildren, Richard (Richie) Chesnut of the home, Courtney of the home, Melissa (Missy) and James McNeace, Michael (Mickey) Chesnut, Cheri Deese, David and Debbie McKee, Randy Moss, Teresa and David Widener, Tammy Harmon, Michael Mitchell, Monica Mitchell and Angelia Kelly; 19 great-grandchildren, Cale Roberts, Kegan Roberts, Chris McKee, Faith and Pete Johnson, Madison Chesnut, Macee Chesnut, Heather Chesnut, Dustin McKee, Jan Widener, Justin Widener, Danny Harmon, Jerry Wayne Harmon, Leah Moss, Ashley Leonhart, Sheri Woodsby, Candy Woodsby, Josh Willard and McKayla Adams; three great-great-grandchildren, Zane Roberts, Tori Kitchens and Will Johnson.

Mrs. Mitchell was predeceased by a daughter, Janis Mitchell Perry, a son, Michael (Mike) Mitchell, a son-in-law, Ronnie Teague; three sisters, Louise Varner, Ophia Gilliam and Mabel Bobo, three brothers, Walt Bobo, Russell Bobo and George Bobo. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Chris Carr, the Rev. Dr. Trenton Connelly and the Rev. Jayon McKee. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.

Marjorie F. Ammons
Retired postal employee

Marjorie Fowler Ammons, 81, of 271 Providence Road, Spartanburg and a former resident of Jonesville, widow of James C. (J.C.) Ammons, died at her home Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at 5 p.m. Mrs. Ammons was born in Jonesville on Oct. 16, 1922, a daughter of the late Albert and Delphia Fowler Fowler. She was a member of Jonesville United Methodist Church where she was active in her church as long as her health permitted. She attended Winthrop College and Limestone College and was former owner and operator of the Dutch Grill in Jonesville. Mrs. Ammons was retired clerk with the U.S. Postal Service at the Jonesville Post Office. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Chris Ammons and his wife, Vicky, of Spartanburg with whom she made her home; three grandchildren, Christy and husband, Conrad Senn, Jim and his wife, Allison Ammons and Kevin and his wife, Kristen Ammons; five great-grandsons, Blake, Alex and Tyler Senn; Jay and Ryan Ammons. Mrs. Ammons was predeceased by a daughter, Nicki Ammons Deas.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Scott Gilmer and the Rev. Alan Senn. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jonesville United Methodist Church, Jonesville, S.C. 29353 or to Spartanburg Regional Hospice (Special Needs Funds), Suite 300, 120 Heywood Ave., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302. Talmadge E. Lindsey Sr.
Former Jonesville mayor

Talmadge Eugene (Tal) Lindsey Sr., 78, of Magnolia Manor, Spartanburg, formerly of Harris St., Jonesville, widower of Dorothy Kendrick Lindsey, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at 10:15 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after several years of declining health. Mr. Lindsey was born in Spartanburg on Oct, 5, 1925, a son of the late Guilford and Sara Lindsey. Mr. Lindsey was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church and was a Mason. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from Spartan Insulation of Spartanburg. Mr. Lindsey served three terms as mayor of the Town of Jonesville.

Surviving are a step-daughter, Sandra Fowler of Jonesville; two step-grandchildren, Tonya Holmes and Rowlin Chavis, both of Jonesville; four step-great-grandchildren, Jordan Holmes, Conley Holmes, Bryce Holmes and Olivia Chavis; and a nephew, Raymond Bramlett of Spartanburg. Mr. Lindsey was predeceased by a son, Talmadge Eugene (Gene) Lindsey Jr. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Ralph Brown.

The family is at the home of his step-daughter, Sandra Fowler, 114 Spencer Road, Jonesville and will receive friends at the graveside immediately following services on Friday.
