Entered into eternal rest on the morning of November 15, 2001, William Joseph Howell, husband of Mildred Almeida Howell. Residence, Charleston, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William Joseph Howell are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Sunday, at 2 o'clock. Interment, Bethany cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Saturday between 5 and 7 o'clock.
Mr. Howell was born February 13, 1920, in Charleston, S.C., the son of Samuel Wilson Howell and Florrie Westbury Howell. He was a retired Management Analyst with the Charleston Navel Shipyard. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the Charleston Exchange Club, the Deutscher Bruderliche Bund and the Arion Society. He served with the U.S. Navy during W.W.II.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, S.C.; one son, William J. Howell, Jr., of Charleston, S.C.; one daughter, Connie H. Koonce of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King St., Charleston, S.C. 29401, or Charleston Exchange Club Foundation, P.O. Box 120, Ladson, S.C. 29456.
FOXWORTH, Ruth
Entered into eternal rest on the evening of November 12, 2001, Ruth Godwin Foxworth, widow of Col. Edward McClam Foxworth, USA (Ret.) The relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service in the Chapel of John Wesley United Methodist Church, Sunday, November 18, 2001, at 4 o'clock. Burial services will be private in Memorial Park cemetery, Orangeburg, S.C.
Mrs. Foxworth was born July 28, 1914, in Orangeburg, S.C., the daughter of Moody Grover Godwin and Alma Mae O'Cain. She was a graduate of the Medical College of South Carolina and retired as a nurse. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church. She was a former Chief Nurse at American Hospital, Paris, France, in the 40's following the war, a member of the Golden Grads of MUSC and sponsor of the Edward M. Foxworth Scholarship at the Citadel.
She is survived by one daughter, Jeanne F. McKim of Columbia, S.C.; two sons, Dr. J. Michael Foxworth, Charleston, S.C., and Paul Edward Foxworth of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers and two sisters; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community, 1873 Camp Road, Charleston, S.C. 29412.

The relatives and friends of Mr. Izell Johnson "Sonny Boy" of 2106 Mt. Pleasant St., Charleston, S.C., are invited to attend his funeral service, 1 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2001, in St. Matthew Baptist Church, 268 Huger St. Rev. Dr. Clinton Brantley, pastor. Interment will follow at Monrovia cemetery. Viewing for Mr. Johnson, Friday, 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his beloved companion, Ms. Emily Sampson, sons, Floyd Davis and Izell Davis, Jr.; step-children, Lanie Mae Grant, Juliet Taylor, Deborah Williams, Penelope Middleton, Anthony Sampson, Joe Sampson, Bernard Sampson and Lorenzo Sampson; grandchildren; brother and sister, Joseph Giles and Gertrude Blocker; nieces, nephews, and cousins. OLIVER, Joyce
Joyce Stokes Oliver, 61, of Goose Creek, died at her home on the morning of Thursday, November 15, 2001. Her funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock, Saturday, November 17, 2001, in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home today (Friday) from 3 until 8 p.m.
Mrs. Oliver was born in Hartsville, S.C., on December 10, 1939, a daughter of Elbert and Essie Mae Coates Stokes. She was retired from the payroll department of Charleston County School System and attended Lydia Baptist Church.
She is survived by Jack Barnette, her daughter, Lynne Eva Lenora Oliver of Goose Creek, her sons, Flash Delton Oliver, Jr., of Ladson, Adrian Scott Oliver, of Goose Creek, and Michael Dan Oliver of Jacksonville, Fla., as well as seven grandchildren and a nephew, Garry Miller of San Francisco.
GRIFFIN, JR., James
James Gary Griffin, Jr., 74 of North Charleston, died on the afternoon of Friday, November 16, 2001 after a brief illness. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 o'clock Monday afternoon in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. NORTH AREA CHAPEL, DORCHESTER ROAD. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Dorchester Road Chapel Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.Mr. Griffin was born in North Charleston on June 11, 1927, the son of James G. and Vergie Kinsey Griffin, Sr. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he retired from the shipping department at WESTVACO after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Hammerton Lodge #332 and VFW Post 3142.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mable King Griffin, two daughters, Mary V. Gore of Dothan, GA and Karen G. Freischlag of Charleston. He is also survived by four sisters, Ruby Neff of North Charleston, Sarah Spencer and Miriam Davis, both of Hanahan, and Carolyn Hughes of Belflower, CA. She was the owner of Stafford Painting and Cleaning, who was a sub-contractor with Squires Builders from 1991-1998.Surviving are her husband, David Miller of Summerville, SC; her son, Michael Shea Stafford of Memphis, Tenn.; stepson, Zackary Ryan Miller of Suffolk, Va.; ex-husband, Larry Stafford of Isle of Palms, SC; two brothers, Ray Griggs of Florence, Miss. and David Chamberlin of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Kristi Tucker of Memphis, Tenn.
