Martha Ann Freesland, 63, died Friday morning, November 16, 2001, at her home in Goose Creek. The funeral service will be at the graveside, 12 noon, Monday, in Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call, Sunday evening, from 4 until 6 p.m., at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL.Martha was born December 5, 1937, in Brunswick, Ga., the daughter of the late J.D. and Louise Younger Farmer. She earned her degree in business administration from Limestone College. She served as Parish Administrator at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Charleston from 1994 until last year.She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John H. Freesland; her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah (Bill) Kosnow of Summerville, and her son, Derek Gadberry of Goose Creek. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Chamala and Chris Holmes and Michael Gadberry and two great-grandchildren, Tori and Kaila Holmes.

Entered into eternal rest on November 14, 2001, Ruth M. Costa, wife of Mars C. Costa, residence, Hendersonville, N.C., formerly of Charleston, S.C. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Mars C. Costa are invited to attend the funeral services of the latter, Monday, at 1 o'clock, at the graveside in Magnolia cemetery.Mrs. Costa was born November 19, 1927, in Charleston, S.C., the daughter of Gordon Fuller Moorer and Carrie Lenora Jones Moorer. She was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, where she served on the altar guild and was a member of the choir. She was a member of the Huguenot Society of South Carolina and the Colonial Dames of America.She is survived by her husband of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sons, M. Caldwell Costa, Jr., of Washington, N.C., and Howard Gordon Costa of Hilton Head, S.C.; one brother, Daniel Fuller Moorer of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Pregnall of Columbia, S.C., and Mrs. Gertrude Waters of San Antonio, Texas. DORCHESTER, S.C. - Herbert Adam Smith, Jr. died Wednesday November 14, 2001. Funeral Services will be held Saturday 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Harleyville with Rev. Bob Lee officiating. Burial will follow at the Harleyville cemetery. Pallbearers are Victor Smith, Jr., Blaine Smith, Michael Mullinax, Bobby Carter, Haskell Parler and Buddy Carter. DEAN, Vera
Mrs. Vera Cole Dean, age 97, of 1250 Teamon Road, Griffin, Ga. 30223, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2001, at her residence.Mrs. Dean was born May 1, 1904, to the late William Cole and the late Mollie Addis Cole. ftired USNR Commander Thomas Irvine Dean, Sr., Mrs. Dean was a graduate of the Lander College in Greenwood, S.C., where she received her teaching degree, a former teacher of the Oconee County School System. A retired teacher from the First Baptist Church in Charleston, S.C., where she was a very active member at the church having served in many different areas as well as Sunday School teacher, active in the youth department, women's missions. Mrs. Dean was the First Woman to serve on the Board of Directors in the South Carolina Baptist Association. She had been a member of the Sunnyside First Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Griffin, Ga. She was active in the Eastern Star in Charleston, serving as past worthy matron, Daughters of the Nile, and the Kings Daughters.Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Tom, Jr., and Gail Dean of Griffin, Ga., daughter, Virginia G. Horres of Charleston, S.C., grandchildren, Tommy and Connie Dean III of Edgefield, S.C., Charles David Dean of Griffin, Robert E. Dean and Vickie Henry-Dean of India Atlantic, Fla., great-grandchildren, Thomas I. Dean, IV, Mary Doar Dean, both of Summerville, Kellie M. Dean of Fla., Travis Green, Dorothy Green, both of North Augusta, S.C., niece and nephews, Betty Jo and Al Hilton of Charlotte, N.C., William Clayton of Spartanburg, S.C.Memorial services for Mrs. Vera C. Dean will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Baptist Church in Charleston, S.C. Dr. John A. Hamrick and Rev. Marshall Blalock will officiate. A Graveside Service for Mrs. Dean will be conducted on Monday, at 2 p.m., at the Edgewood cemetery in Greenwood, S.C. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Charleston First Baptist Church, 48 Meeting St., Charleston, S.C. 29401. CONNER-WESTBURY FUNERAL HOME, 1891 W. McIntosh Road, Griffin, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Harry Carvin Carlisle, 74, of Charleston Heights, died after a brief illness on the evening of Thursday, November 15, 2001. The funeral service will be conducted at 10 o'clock, Monday, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., GREENRIDGE ROAD CHAPEL. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Stuhr's Greenridge Road Chapel, Sunday evening, from 6 until 8 p.m.He was born, October 19, 1927, in Harris, Ga., the son of John E. and Devorlene Downs Carlisle. He retired from the Navy as a boiler technician and later was retired from the Navy Commissary at the shipyard. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and Hammerton Lodge #332.Mr. Carlisle is survived by his wife, Ruth Judy Carlisle, his daughters and sons-in-law, Melinda (Rob) Hamilton of Savannah, Ga., Marsha (Al) Rissanen of North Charleston, Loretta (Don) Shiles of North Charleston, and his son and daughter-in-law, Chris (Paige) Humbert of Raleigh, N.C. His brother, Billy Carlisle of Woodruff, Ga., and five grandchildren also survive.

Interment will be private.Mr. Daniels was born in Charlotte, N.C., on November 22, 1934, a son of Arthur D. Daniels and Mary Stiekleather Daniels. He was a retired Staff Sergeant with the United States Air Force. He was a Baptist.Surviving are his wife, Mary E. JONES, William
William "Bill" A. Jones, 74, of James Island, a retired Air Force T/Sgt. and husband of Evelyn Houck Jones, died the morning of November 16, 2001. He was born in Black Mountain, N.C., on December 18, 1926.He is retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 17 years at the Power Plant. He was a member of the Dorchester Masonic Lodge #369 and VFW Post #445 on James Island. He was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association.He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Houck Jones; one daughter, Katrina Lynn Gauthier of Johns Island; one son, Johnny Lee Jones of James Island, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Janie Lynn Jones, Danielle Leigh Jones, Johnny Lee Jones, II, Jeffrey Richard Smith, Gregory Lee Smith, and daughter-in-law, Deborah McLemore Jones; six brothers and two sisters, Winfred Lee Jones of Charleston, S.C., Jack Jones, Morris Jones, Ruby Powell and Dixie Jordan all of Salisbury, N.C., Clyde Jones, Joe Jones and Charles Jones of Brevard, N.C.
