RIZER, Gary
BENNETTS POINT - Mr. George Gary Rizer, III, 55, of 14995 Bennetts Point Road, died Monday. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Glendale Memorial cemetery with Rev. Gerald Mabry officiating and directed by the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.
Mr. Rizer was born in Columbia, a son of Ottie Lee "Totsy" Ramsey Rizer and the late George Gary Rizer, Jr. He was an employee with Emcompass Technologies, a member of the SC National Guard, a Mason and a member of the Green Pond Fire Department.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Walterboro are his wife, Mickie Robertson Rizer, sons, Derrick Rizer of Warrior, Alabama, DeWayne Rizer and David Rizer, both of Bennetts Point, and Chris Rizer of Maine, a daughter, Sherri Rizer of Atlanta, Georgia, a sister, Ruth Rizer of Walterboro, a brother, Homer Rizer of Bennetts Point, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Allen Rizer.
SMYLY, Eugene
RUFFIN - Eugene W. Smyly, 85, a retired welder at Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Tuesday at a local Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME, conducted by Rev. Ed Stiltz and Rev. David Cox. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Smyly was born January 10, 1916 in Ruffin, a son of the late Charles Stephens Smyly and Phoebie Williams Smyly. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church and a former member of the official board. He was past worshipful master of Bells Masonic Lodge #236 A.F.M. and had recently received his 60 year pin. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in Italy and Austria. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Surviving are his wife, Mary G. Smyly of Ruffin; two daughters, Gloria S. Valentine of Ruffin and Donna S. Myrick of Ulmer; a brother, Richard Smyly of Barnwell; three sisters, Lenora S. Keegan and Phoebie S. Phillips both of Walterboro and Shirley S. Lawhon of the Isle of Palms, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

WHITMAN, James
ANDREWS - Rev. James H. Whitman, 79, died Tuesday, November 20, 2001, at a Georgetown health care center.
Rev. Whitman was born in Elberton, Ga., on June 21, 1922, a son of the late Clifton Gary Whitman and Eula Lee Holmes Whitman. He was an Army veteran of World War II and participated in the invasion of Normandy. Rev. Whitman was an ordained minister of the Church of God and served as pastor from 1953 to 1983. He was pastor in a number of churches in S.C. and retired from Leslie Church of God in 1983. Rev. Whitman moved to Andrews in 1983 and was a member of Andrews Church of God.
Surviving are, his wife, Pearl Howard Richardson Whitman of Andrews; a son, James H. Whitman, Jr., of Heath Springs; three daughters, Gloria W. Herring of Washington, Miriam W. Humphries of Soldotna, Alaska, Donna W. McFaddin of Rock Hill; a step-son, Jeffrey Richardson of Pawley's Island; three brothers, Leroy Whitman of Florida, Rev. Clifton Whitman of North, and Coleman Whitman of Harrisburg, N.C.; six sisters, Gladys Moore, Hazel Campbell, and Sylvine Kawen, all of Iva, Thelma Howard and Parnice Anderson, both of Anderson, and Christine Anderson of Miss.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday afternoon, November 24, 2001, at 2 o'clock at Andrews Church of God. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Harold O. Downing and the Rev. Thomas W. Wallace, II. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial cemetery under the direction of the Andrews Chapel of MAYER FUNERAL HOME.
