The relatives and friends of Mrs. Gladys Rumph Rourke, widow of Carl Mouzon Rourke, are invited to attend her funeral services 11 o'clock, Saturday morning, October 6, 2001 at the graveside in Rumph cemetery, Dorchester County, SC.
Mrs. Rourke was born in Dorchester County, SC, January 30, 1921, a daughter of George Washington Rumph and Mary Catherine Canady Rumph. She was a Methodist.
Mrs. Rourke is survived by two daughters, Beryl J. Middleton of Charleston, SC, Janeil R. Sparks of Eutawville, SC, three grandsons, David Connor Jones, Matthew Stephens Jones and Michael Rourke Jones, a great grandson, Linden William Jones, a brother, Dr. G. Kirkland Rumph of Charleston, SC, two sisters, Lurine R. Mealing of North Augusta, SC and Jeanette R. Schumann of St. Stephens, S.C.

WARD, Leon
Leon B. Ward of Atlanta, GA., died at age 73 on Tuesday, September 25, 2001. The funeral service was held in Lawrenceville, GA., September 28, 2001. born in Charleston, SC., he lived in Atlanta, GA., for the past twenty-seven years. Ward worked as a manager at Condon's Department Store and Taylor's Men's Wear. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, The French Society, and The Exchange Club. He served as a Commissioner on the City of Charleston Board of Fire Masters and was disaster chairman and volunteer of the American Red Cross. He was a Marine Corps veteran of WWII and served in China. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ward; daughter, Debbie Patterson, and son, Brett Ward of Atlanta; by his son, Buddy Ward and daughter, Terri Skinner of Charleston, SC., and by son, Michael Ward in Honolulu, HI; and ten grandchildren.
SANTOS, William
William Anthony Santos, Jr., 74, died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at a local hospital. born October 14, 1926 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of William A. Santos, Sr. and Catherine Conlon Santos. He was a graduate of Bishop England High School, a member of the Merchant Marines and later served in the U.S. Navy during W.W.II witnessing the testing of the atomic bomb and traveled to the South Pole with an expedition of Admiral Byrd. He attended Clemson University and later, trained by his father, was a licensed Harbour Pilot in Port Royall. He retired as Project Manager of Flour-
Daniel Construction International. He was a member of the Master's Mate's and Pilot's Association in Charleston. Mr. Santos is survived by his wife Mildred Garrett Santos of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sons, William Anthony Santos III, of N. Charleston, Thomas Jay Santos of Florence, S.C. and James Earle Santos of Albany, GA; two daughters, Mary Ellen Saare of Tulsa, OK and Catherine Ann Smith of Gilbert, SC; one sister, Mary Santos Blanchard of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two brothers, Eugene C. Santos of Charleston, SC and John J. Santos of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 10 grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ann Santos Henry. Visitation will be on Friday, October 5, 2001 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
