Joseph Rembert "J.R." Garris, 86, of Charleston, owner of J.R. Garris Floor Sanding Co., died Monday in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. born in St. George, he was the son of Joseph Benjamin Garris and Lula Fogle Garris. Mr. Garris was Charleston's premiere floor finisher for more than 50 years and trained many of the floor finishers in the area. He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church. Mr. Garris was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Collins Garris.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Heaton of James Island; sons, Randy Garris of Charleston, Danny Garris of Summerville and Grady Garris of Mt. Pleasant; a siter, Ertelle Smoak of St. Matthews; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements by CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, S.C.
GOODMAN, Evelyn
Evelyn Grayson Goodman, 88, of South Carolina Episcopal Home at Still Hopes, West Columbia, formerly of Hollywood, S.C., died Monday in a West Columbia hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2001, fChurch, Meggett, S.C. Burial will be in St. Paul's Episcopal Church cemetery, Hollywood, S.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's cemetery Maintenance Fund, 4981 Chapel Road, Hollywood, S.C. 29449, or Calvary Baptist Church, 4744 Hwy. 165, Meggett, S.C. 29449.
Friends may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, from 6 until 8 o'clock this evening.
born on August 7, 1913, in Colleton County, a daughter of the late W. Francis Grayson and Sarah Martin "Sallie" Grayson. She was a 1934 graduate of Winthrop University. She was a retired school teacher. She was past president of St. Paul's Exchange Club Auxiliary, Past Worthy Matron of Carolina Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, Meggett, S.C., Past Member of St. Paul's Garden Club, Past President of WMU and was a Sunday School Teacher at Calvary Baptist Church.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Meggett, S.C., since 1926.
Surviving are, four sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin M. "Eddie" and Joyce Goodman, Jr., of Wingate, N.C., Grayson A. and Jan Goodman of Spartanburg, Joe F. and Elizabeth Goodman of Charlotte, N.C., Gary L. and Brenda Goodman of Columbia; six grandsons, Edwin Mack "Mackey" and Belinda Goodman, III, of Wingate, N.C., Todd Adam Goodman of Columbia, Donald Goodman of Wingate, N.C., Michael Goodman of Charlotte, N.C., Grayson Goodman of Charleston, Matthew Goodman of Spartanburg; one granddaughter, Frances "Fran" Evelyn Goodman of Charleston; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Zachary Goodman; step-grandchildren, Jeff Slate of Jacksonville, Fla., Rich Slate of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Todd Brooks, and Toby Brooks, both of Columbia; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur Moody "Donia" of Yonges Island, Mrs. Cullen Brooks "Dottie" of Prosperity, Mrs. William Johnson "Betty" of Edisto Island, Mrs. Jack Lacey "Joann" of Ravenel.

Mrs. Causey born February 7, 1913 in Moncks Corner the daughter of Marshall and Emma Locklear Jackson. She was a member of Safe Harbor Church. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Sam; by her son and daughters-in-law, Danny and Peggy Causey, and two grandsons, Michael Causey and Donald and his wife, Leslie Causey and a great-grandchild, Zachary Causey, all of Mt. Pleasant.

Kenneth Aleshire, 71, husband of Lydia Howe Aleshire of Charleston died Monday, October 8, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Aleshire was born Tuesday, September 23, 1930 in Baltimore, MD., the son of William Bryan and Louise Wagner Aleshire. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and a Agent for Penn National Insurance Company. Mr. Aleshire was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Aleshire. Surviving are his wife of Charleston; two daughters, Monica Lynn Negm and Jennifer Ann Elrod, both of Columbia, MD., two stepsons, Benny West and Douglas Brian West, both of Kentucky; two stepdaughters, Barbara Mullen Hart and Laura Jane Hayes, both of Kentucky, one brother, Bruce Aleshire; 7 grandchildren, Dalton Alexander Negm, Melissa Carolina Elrod, Rebecca Daniel Elrod, Amanda West, Michael Mullen, Kelly Hayes and Bridgette West.
