THOMAS, Kathe
WALTERBORO - Kathe Strempel Thomas, 82, of 210 Academy Road died Tuesday at Colleton Place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date according to the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Liegnitz, Germany, a daughter of the late Richard Strempel and Ida Scholz Strempel.
Surviving are her husband, Frederick M. Thomas of Walterboro, a daughter and son-in-law, Karen T. and Randolph L. Bunton; three grandchildren, Carol B. Grant, Susan B. Haynes and Randolph L. "Randy" Bunton, Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Heather B. Grant, Eric Bunton, Jami Bunton, Sarah C. Haynes and Rebecca H. Haynes, and a sister, Hanni Klunder of Duisburg, Germany.

CONE, Gene
JACKSONBORO - Gene Oliver Cone, 64, died Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at a local Charleston hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Cottageville United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Wayne Major and Rev. Walt Ballenger. Interment will be in Cottageville cemetery, directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Cone was born October 23, 1936 in Cottageville, a son of the late Capers Oliver Cone and Mary Ackerman Cone. He was married
to Mary Anne Turner Cone for the past 44 years. He graduated from the Citadel in 1958, retired from L.B.C. & W. Architects and Engineers, Columbia, SC and was present owner of Cone Properties, Columbia, SC. He resided at Beanstik On The Edisto, Jacksonboro, SC for the past 17 years.
He was a charter member of Windsor United Methodist Church, Columbia, SC and at present, an active member of Cottageville United Methodist Church.
Survivors including his wife of Jacksonboro are daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie Cone Fuller and Andrew Fuller of Ridgeville, SC, Pamela Anne Dennis of Cottageville; son and daughter-in-law, Gene O. Cone II and Laurie Cone of Columbia, SC and six grandchildren, Gene Oliver Cone, III, Jane McKenzie Cone, Andrew Corbin Fuller, II, Savannah Clay Fuller, Gracyn Turner Fuller and Luka Alexandra Dennis.

BAILEY, Madison
CANADYS - Madison Howell Bailey, 79, a retired contractor and farmer, died Tuesday at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday at Canadys First Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Joe Marchant and Rev. Joe Parker. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery, directed by the Fred Parker Funeral Home.
Mr. Bailey was born April 2, 1922 in Canadys, a son of the late Samuel Bailey and Beulah Langdale Bailey. He was a member and Deacon of Canadys First Baptist Church. He was a former board member of Palmetto Rural Telephone Co-Op and an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Furr Bailey; a son, Stephen F. Bailey of Canadys; two daughters, Rhonda B. Antonetti of Charleston and Delores B. Garris of Williams; six brothers, Reginald Bailey of Bamberg, David Bailey, Parker Bailey and Laurie Bailey all of Canadys, Roland Bailey of Columbia and Jerry Bailey of Walterboro; two sisters, Rachel Coe of Canadys and Beulah Gatch of Columbia; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the FRED PARKER FUNERAL HOME.
COLTER, Anna
Entered into eternal rest on October 8, 2001, Anna D. Colter, 91, formerly of Treadwell Street, Orangeburg, died at a local Charleston hospital. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2001 in Trinity United Methodist Church with burial in Belleville Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be the Rev. Ernest Etheredge.
Mrs. Colter was born April 29, 1910 daughter of the late Gilbert and India Mitchell. She was the widow of Rev. Dr. James S. Colter. She enjoyed a full life, first as a teacher in the elementary schools of Orangeburg County, then as a cosmetologist for over 50 years. Survivors include a daughter, Rossie M. Colter of Charleston, SC.
Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

SEABRIGHT, Helen
Helen Anna Seabright, born December 26, 1905 in Wheeling, WV, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at the Charleston Nursing Center. She had been in Mt. Pleasant for the last year. She is survived by a son, Russell, of Mt. Pleasant, a daughter, Shirley Holbrook of Olean, NY, nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was a life long member of the Lutheran Church. Burial will be in her hometown of Wheeling, WV.
GRIMM, Esther
PORT ROYAL, SC - Esther Lorraine Henigin Grimm, 74, passed away at Beaufort Memorial Hospital on Monday, October 8, 2001 at 10:15 p.m. Services will be 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 11, at Copeland Funeral Home with visitation at 6:00 p.m.
Mrs. Grimm was born April 27, 1927 in Blairsville, Penn., a daughter of Thomas L. and Oneida Hogue Henigin. She attended S.S. Simon and Jude and Blairsville High Schools. She lived the first part of her life in the Blairsville, Indiana and Pittsburgh areas. She worked for the James Drilling Corp. in Blairsville, Brody's Department Store in Indiana and in finance at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was also a volunteer with United Way of Pittsburgh.
She lived in the South Carolina low country for over 20 years. She worked for Mary's Fashions Store in Mt. Pleasant and later managed the Vita Villa Health Food Store in Beaufort for many years. Upon retiring, she volunteered at The Red Door, a thrift shop which benefits Friends of Carolina Hospice. On April 21, 1991, Mrs. Grimm became a minister with the Alliance of Divine Love (ADL), an organization devoted to the promotion of peace, and the bringing of hope and joy through the giving, receiving and expansion of divine love. She was a member of Carteret Street United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Grimm was preceded in death by her son, Stanley Robert Shearer and a sister, Elizabeth L. (Henigan) Stiles. Survivors include her daughter, Virginia E. (Shearer) Hensley of Fripp Island, SC; a brother Leo T. Henigin of Natrona Heights, PA; two sisters, Alice O. Iverson of Schenectady, NY and Patricia I. Short of Blairsville, PA; her step-mother, Ruth (Smith) Henigin of Blairsville, PA; her five grandchildren, Laura Christine (Hensley) Ratcliffe and Malia Lorraine (Hensley) Cooler, both of Beaufort, Cheryl Lynn (Shearer) Claunch of Dallas, OR, Robert James Shearer of Roswell, GA and Stanley Robert Shearer, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA; two great-granddaughters, Maria Nicole Cooler of Beaufort and Emma Lauren Shearer of Roswell, GA and several nieces and nephews.
GARRIS, Joseph
Joseph Rembert "J.R." Garris, 86, of Charleston, owner of J.R. Garris Floor Sanding Co., died Monday in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. born in St. George, he was the son of Joseph Benjamin Garris and Lula Fogle Garris. Mr. Garris was Charleston's premiere floor finisher for more than 50 years and trained many of the floor finishers in the area. He was a member of Windsor Baptist Church. Mr. Garris was preceded in death by his wife, Janie Collins Garris.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Heaton of James Island; sons, Randy Garris of Charleston, Danny Garris of Summerville and Grady Garris of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Ertelle Smoak of St. Matthews; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
