KINGSTREE - Alton Curtis Nexsen, 53, died Friday at his residence. Mr. Nexsen was born in Kingstree, a son of Mrs. Violet Green Nexsen Davis and the late Elmore Nexsen. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a retired employee of Santee Electric Co-Op.Surviving, in addition to his mother and step-father, Jimmy Davis of Kingstree, his wife, Shelby Smith Nexsen of Kingstree, son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Karen Green of Kingstree, sister, Gail (BoBo) Lee of Kingstree, brother Jerry E. WALTERBORO - John Charles Morris, infant son of Randy Hoyt Morris and Susan Smoak Weidenbach died Saturday at a local Charleston hospital. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church cemetery near Ritter.Surviving are his parents of Walterboro, a brother, Joshua Weidenbach, a sister, Delana Weidenbach of Walterboro, paternal grandparents, Roger and Juanita Ritter of Walterboro, paternal grandfather, Hoyt V. Morris of Eden, Georgia, maternal grandfather, Everett A. GOLDSBORO - Mrs. Marilyn Swicegood Mays, 78, of 408 Taylor Place, died Friday at her home.A native of Charleston, SC and reared in Summerville, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Willis Swicegood and Caroline Bell Swicegood and was married
for 55 years to the late Dr. Oliver Aiken Mays. Mrs. Mays attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia and became a registered nurse at the School of Nursing of the Medical University of South Carolina. She later served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Nurses Corps. Mrs. Mays served with her husband in places such as Paris, France, Wiesbaden, Germany and Nome, Alaska and many other bases in the United States. After moving to Goldsboro, Mrs. Mays became a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the Sanctuary Choir and the Susanne Wesley Circle. She was also a member of the Retired Officers Wives Association, the Gardenettes Garden Club, the Neuse River Foundation, the AMA Alliance, Inc. and a life member of the Medical University of South Carolina Alumni Association.Funeral services will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Rev. Charles Morrison officiating. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia, SC.Mrs. Mays is survived by her sons, Roy Aiken Mays, II and Charlotte of Jamestown, SC and Roger Willis Mays and his wife, Virginia Ann of Morehead City; sister, Imogene Williams of Summerville, SC; brothers, Roger Mason Swicegood of Summerville, SC and Daniel Swicegood of Greenville, NC; grandchildren, Rob, Will, Erin and Geoff; and a special friend, John Malfy of Goldsboro.Mrs. Mays was preceded in death by an infant son, a daughter, Janet Marilyn Mays, a sister, Carrie Bell Schultz and brothers, George Wesley Swicegood, John Willis Swicegood, Jr. and Edwin Franklin Swicegood.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Foxworth, 71, a retired power house operator with International Paper, died Friday, October 12, 2001, in a Charleston hospital.Funeral services will be held Monday, October 15, 2001, at 11 a.m., in Center Baptist Church in Upper Georgetown County. Burial, directed by GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME OF GEORGETOWN, will follow in the church cemetery.He was born April 11, 1930, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Lawrence Chesley Foxworth and Helen Alice Davis Foxworth.Mr. Foxworth retired from International Paper in 1993 with 40 years of service. He had lived most of his life in Georgetown and after retiring moved to the Folly Grove Community where he enjoyed his farm. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club with International Paper. He was a member of Center Baptist Church and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class.Surviving are, his wife, Wilma T. Foxworth; two sons, Keith R. Foxworth, and his wife, Rebecca of Florence and Dexter Foxworth and his wife, Jo Anne of Georgetown; one daughter, Lisa F. John Laskovitch, 76, widower of Mary Andriote Laskovitch of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., died October 13, 2001, at his residence. to Mary A. Laskovitch for 50 years and two months before she passed away on June 29, 1999. Mr. Laskovitch retired from the U.S. Marine Corp as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1963. He was a Veteran of World War II serving under General Mark Clark during the invasion of Italy. He also served during the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart. He was a Russian Orthodox and faithful parishioner at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and a member of East Cooper Outboard Motor Club.Surviving are his daughters, JoAnn Duncan of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Kathy Neary of Awendaw, S.C., his sisters, Helen Vucelich of Shadyside, Ohio, and Olga Rosso of Torrington, Conn., and his grandchildren, Lindsay Duncan, Kelly Bridges and Michael Bridges.
