BISSELL, C. Harrington
C. Harrison Bissell, 75, husband of Mary Ravenel Bissell died Monday, October 15, 2001, at a Charleston hospital. Mr. Bissell was born Thursday, February 11, 1926, in Charleston, SC, the son of James Dougal and Eulalie Yates Bissell. He attended public schools of Charleston and was a 1948 graduate of The Citadel.
Mr. Bissell honorably served his country in the U.S. Naval Amphibious Forces during W.W. II in the Pacific and with Naval Operations during the Korean Conflict. He was the President of Anderson-Bissell Insurance Agency. Mr. Bissell enjoyed Charleston and South Carolina history and in 1965 discovered Charleston's ancient half moon Battery (1690) beneath the Old Exchange Building. He operated the Old Exchange Building and Provost Dungeon until the state acquired the building in 1975. Mr. Bissell was a Past Director of the Trident Chamber of Commerce serving as tourist, travel and convention chairman, served on the Bi Centennial and Tri Centennial Committees and was a former board member of the Charleston County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Commission. He was Past President and member of the St. Andrews Society, the Charleston Museum's Board of Directors and former trustee of The Historic Charleston Foundation. Mr. Bissell was a member of the Preservation Society, the S.C. Historical Society, the Carolina Yacht Club, the Charleston Club and Past Governor and current member of the Society of Colonial Wars in the State of S.C.
Surviving are his wife of Charleston; a son, C. Harrington Bissell, Jr.; a daughter, Mary B. Tutterow; two step-sons, Fulton Dewitt Lewis and William Bee Lewis and four grandchildren. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. C. Harrington Bissell are invited to attend the funeral services for the former at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 18, 2001 at the Graveside, Magnolia cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at 355 Confederate Circle. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a local charity of your choice.

LAMAR - Nell Kate Hendrix Amerson, 73, died Tuesday in a Charleston hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Thursday, at Lamar United Methodist Church. Interment for the family will follow in Lamar cemetery directed by BELK FUNERAL HOME, LAMAR CHAPEL.
Mrs. Amerson, wife of Curtis D. Amerson, was born in Darlington County the daughter of the late Edward and Elma Hudson Hendrix. She retired as a lab technician for DuPont. Mrs. Amerson was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class and Bessie Jeffords Circle of the church.
Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are two daughters, Linda Isgett of Lamar and Effie Amerson of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Curtis D. Amerson, Jr., of Lamar; five granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Jackie McFarland of Fountain Inn; and three special nieces, Patsy Grooms of Alma, Ga., Frances Holloman of Darlington, and Brenda Forkasdi of Lamar.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.

Frances Thomas Kinard, 73, of Macedonia, S.C., a retired production worker for C.R. Bard, died Monday in a North Charleston hospital.

Mrs. Kinard was born August 2, 1928, in Macedonia, S.C., a daughter of Beaufort L. Kinard and Janie Dupree Kinard. She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church.
Surviving are, her husband, Lewis C. Kinard, Sr.; one daughter, Bertie K. Yohe of Moncks Corner; four sons, Louis C. Kinard, Jr., of Coward, Terry Kinard of Beaver Dam, Jimmy Kinard of Bonneau, and Tony Kinard of Macedonia; four sister, Nell Gregory of Macedonia, Della Spalviero of James Island, Ella Mae Kirkland of Russellville, and Geraldine Taylor of Moncks Corner; three brothers, Rouse Thomas and Beaufort L. Thomas, Jr., both of Macedonia, and Jerry Thomas of Kingstree; and ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Kate Mims Berry, 91, of St. Stephen, S.C., died Tuesday at her residence.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Bonneau. Final Farewell and Commendation will be held at the St. Stephen Episcopal Church cemetery, St. Stephen. Mrs. Barry was born September 23, 1910, in Moncks Corner, S.C., a daughter of James W. Mims and Hattie Ballentine Mims. She along with her husband owned and operated Barry's Department Store in St. Stephen. She is the widow of James J. Barry, Sr. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Bonneau. She attended Winthrop College.
Surviving are, one daughter, Kay B. Veach of Goose Creek; one son, James J. Barry, Jr., of Pinopolis; one brother, Dr. Harry W. Mims of Charleston; four grandchildren, Katherine Barry, Charlotte Barry, Jamie Barry, and Hank Veach; and her caregivers, LaQuetta White, Rachel Brown, Louise Dingle, and Leola Haigler.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS - J. B. Williams, 84, a retired C.E.O. of an oil and gas company, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at a Fort Worth hospital.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Ridglea Baptist Church. Burial at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

J. B. Williams was born March 15, 1917, in Arlington, Texas. He was an active member of Ridglea Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for a number of years. He was also a member of the Shriners at the Moslah Temple, a Jester at ROJ Court No. 32, and a Mason of Lodge No. 925. He was known for his friendliness and his generosity and will be mourned by many family, friends, colleagues, and his devoted staff at Southeastern Resources and Search Drilling.
J.B. was preceded in death by his wife, Bonita McGee Williams; daughter, Sandra Lee; sister, Maude Mullins; and parents, Julius Berry and Irene Hamil Williams.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Williams Elton, Jeannie Ortiz and husband, Tim, Robin Turton and husband, Bo, and Sherman Meloni and husband, Chris; son, Mark Proctor and wife, Ann; grandchildren, Lamar Elton III, Tani Elton Hilbert and husband, John, Eve Elton, Stacy Brooks and husband, James, Susan Lee Ainsworth, William Lee, Brandon Ortiz, Sophia Meloni and Chessley Turton; great-grandchildren, Shannon Lee, Bodhi Brooks, Zoe Brooks and Kayla Foster; one brother, Danny Williams and wife, Maureen of Oklahoma City, Okla.
