MCEACHIN, Margaret
FLORENCE - Margaret Howard McEachin died at her home early Tuesday morning, October 16, 2001. She was in her hundreth year. She was born in her parent's home at Claussen, South Carolina, the daughter of Fitz Lee Howard and Louise Penn Ervin Howard. She was the widow of Peter Hector McEachin. One child was born of this union, Daniel Malloy McEachin.
After academic preparation at Flora McDonald, she entered Converse College and graduated in 1923. At the conclusion of her education, she spent her long and productive life in Florence, South Carolina. She taught school in Claussen, South Carolina, until her marriage in 1924.
She was an avid outdoorswoman whose passion was gardening. She was a member of the City of Florence Park Commission. She, along with Frank Key, Sr., was instrumental in the construction and care of Lucas Park. She cultivated and propagated camellias. She was a Master Gardner.
She was the oldest member of St. John's Episcopal Church. She organized the St. John's Episcopal Church Plant Bazaar and was active in the Women of the Church.
She was a member of the Renaissance Literary Club. She was also a member of the Plain Dirt Garden Club and the Iris Garden Club. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
In addition to her son of Florence, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth E. McEachin; her granddaughter, Margaret M. Gates (Dennis) of Oregonia, Ohio; her grandson, Daniel Malloy McEachin, Jr. (Amy) of Florence; her great-grandchildren, Samuel G. Gates of Oregonia, OH, FitzLee H. McEachin, Peter H. McEachin, Amy E. McEachin and Daniel Malloy McEachin, III, all of Florence.
Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Charles D. Cooper at St. John's Episcopal Church in Florence, SC, at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2001, directed by WATERS-POWELL FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of her son, Daniel M. McEachin.

KIRKLAND, Carol
BAMBERG - Graveside services for Carol K. Kirkland, 63, will be held Thursday, October 18, 2001 at 4 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery near Ehrhardt, SC. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Kathy Griffin.
Mrs. Kirkland, wife of John F. (Buddy) Kirkland, died October 15, 2001 at a local Orangeburg hospital. She was the daughter of Mary Clarkson Key and the late Corey Pinckney Key of Lodge, SC. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by children, Garnet K. and James Timothy Barnes of Barnwell, SC; Dawn Kirkland and fiance', John Edward Strickland of Orangeburg, SC; grandson, William Greene Barnes, II of Barnwell, SC; sisters, Helen K. Fralix of Lodge, SC, Fern K. Ulmer of Lodge, SC, and Mary (Millie) McMillan of Lodge, SC.
She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She was a half-scholarship donor at USC, an avid Gamecock supporter, and a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She taught in the schools of Colleton, Bamberg and Allendale counties and was presently on the faculty of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
COONER FUNERAL HOME in Bamberg is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation, however, friends may call at the home of John F. (Buddy) Kirkland in Colston Community, Bamberg, SC.
HOLT, Catherine
Mrs. Catherine "Polly" Holt of Walterboro died Sunday at the Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, directed by the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Holt was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late John Godfrey Adams and Sarah C. Thomas Adams. She was a retired nurse and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was first married
to the late Ernest Patrick and then to the late Henry Ellis Holt.
Surviving are three sons, Donald E. Holt of Albemarle, North Carolina, Douglas H. Holt of Durham, North Carolina and Ernest Patrick of Las Animas, Colorado; a sister, Rebecca Koger of Round O; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Jean Patrick.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the BRICE W. HERNDON AND SONS FUNERAL HOME.

Chief Master Sergeant Edward William Healey, USAF (Ret.), 66, of North Charleston, widower of Katie Stevens Healey died Sunday at his residence.
Graveside service will be held this morning at 10 o'clock in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville.
born on November 20, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late John Thomas Healey and Agnes Taylor Healey.
He attended schools of New York. He retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force, he retired fro the 437th Maintenance Squadron, Charleston Air Force Base as a Flight Line Mechanic.
Surviving are three daughters, Karen J. Healy of North Charleston, Teresa M. Wheat of Round O, Jean A. Healey of Round O; two sons, James D. Healey of North Charleston, Daniel S. Healey of North Charleston; one sister, Anne Pestinger of Newfane, NY; two brothers, Dennis Healey of North Charleston, Peter Healey of NY; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

EUTAWVILLE - Mrs. Mamie Barnhill King, 77, of Rocks Pond Campground, Eutawville, died Tuesday in an Orangeburg hospital.

Mrs. King was born in Atkinson, NC, a daughter of the late Edmund Barnhill and Mamie Woodcock Barnhill. She was a member of Midland Park Baptist Church and the widow of Langdon King.
Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Ann K. Barbero of Eutawville, and Mrs. Nancy Longest of Tappahannok, Va.; a son, Langdon C. "Chuck" King of Moncks Corner; brother, Lawrence Barnhill of Burgaw, NC; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
