SMITH, Charles
Charles Walter "Zip" Smith, 78, widower of Lucy Kales Smith of Awendaw, SC died Saturday, October 20, 2001 in a local hospital. The relatives and friends of Charles "Zip" Smith are invited to attend his funeral services Thursday, October 25, 2001 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 1:00 o'clock. Mr. Smith was born in Boston, Mass. He was a member of the Bath Masonic Lodge #263 A.F.M. and the Omar Shriners. He was a Superintendent with Daniels Construction Company and a US Navy Veteran of World War II.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley A. Jordan of North Charleston, SC and Marie Smith Whittaker of Atascadero, California, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Dennehy.
FUNDERBURK, Connie
ANDREWS - Connie Fay Moss Funderburk, 52, died Tuesday, October 23, 2001, at a convalescent center in Georgetown.
Mrs. Funderburk was born in Toccoa, Ga. on August 20, 1949, a daughter of Mary Helen Paxton Moss and the late Charles Everett Moss. She graduated from Stephens County High School and moved to Andrews in 1968. Mrs. Funderburk was employed by Baxter Laboratory in Kingstree for twenty-five years and retired in 1995.
Surviving are her husband, Douglas "Doug" Funderburk of Andrews; a son, Chad Funderburk of Andrews; her mother of Charleston; a brother, Gilbert Moss of Laurens; two sisters, Kim Haselden of Andrews and Mary Charles Hubbard of Christmas, Fla.; two grandchildren, Chase Funderburk and Kayla Funderburk, both of Andrews.
Mrs. Funderburk was predeceased by a son, Clay Everett Funderburk.
Funeral services will be two o'clock Thursday afternoon, October 25, 2001, at the graveside in Andrews Memorial cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Billy E. Rufus. Burial will follow under the direction of the Andrews Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, October 24, 2001, from six until eight o'clock.

DORCHESTER COUNTY - Hayden Christophe Kornahrens, infant son of Monique and Van Kornahrens of Summerville, died Sunday at a local hospital.

WALTERBORO - Eugene James "Jamie" Middleton, Jr., 30, of Walterboro, died Friday.
The funeral will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2001, at Aimwell Presbyterian Church, Neyles Community of Walterboro. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Middleton was born in Walterboro and was the son of Eugene J. Middleton, Sr., and Rosa Simmons Middleton. He was a graduate of Walterboro High School and attended South Carolina State University. He served in the United States Navy Reserve.
He grew up in Aimwell Presbyterian Church and was baptized at an early age. He attended Sunday school at this church.
Surviving are, his parents of Walterboro; his twin sons, Brendan and Brandon Middleton, Walterboro; one sister, Joy Middleton, Gainesville, Fla.; a grandmother, Ethel Middleton, Walterboro, and step-grandmother, Mary P. Simmons, Walterboro.

CAUTHEN, Mildred
ORANGEBURG - Mildred E. Cauthen, 98, of 1000 Live Oak Drive, died Monday, October 22. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, October 25, in Memorial Park cemetery with Rev. Kermitt Schrawder officiating. Burial in Memorial Park cemetery. DUKES-HARLEY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cauthen was born in Sardia, Ga., a daughter of the late Jacob Lawrence Ellison and Ada Barjeron Ellison. She was a retired Public Health Nurse. Mrs. Cauthen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. She was the widow of James C. "Cutie" Cauthen.
Survivors include, step-daughter, Mrs. Nelle C. Bundrick, Aiken; sister, Mrs. George (Clara) Hinnant, Sumter; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Shirley C. Cauthen, Georgetown; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
