BAILEY, Noel
Noel (Sonny) Bailey died on Monday, October 22, at a Charleston hospital. born on March 25, 1933, in Pritchardville, S.C., he was the only son of the late Thomas E. Bailey and the late Eva Mae O'Quinn Bailey.
He is survived by his three daughters, Cynthia Lynne Thibault of Columbia, S.C., Emily Sue Bailey of Water Mill, N.Y., and Dessiree Noelle Bailey of Portola Valley, Calif., from his marriage to Doris Goff Bailey. He is also survived by an extended family of many cousins that were special to him, particularly the family of Bob and Janet Holmquist.
Mr. Bailey was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and served in the U.S. Army. He became a CPA in 1964 and worked in accounting for over 30 years, later retiring from the S.C. Department of Insurance.
He was a native of Beaufort County and derived his greatest pleasure from times spent boating and fishing the rivers of Port Royal Sound with friends and family. He worked with a variety of environmental organizations to preserve the marshes of the low country and captured their beauty over the course of many years in photographs.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., on Wednesday, October 24, at the Port Royal United Methodist Church in Port Royal, S.C. His family will receive friends at 2 p.m. in the vestibule of the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either of the following charities: the S.C. Chapter of the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 6604, Columbia, S.C. 29260, or the Columbia Chapter of the Sierra Club, P.O. Box 2388, Columbia, S.C. 29202.

Entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 22, 2001, Irene Tucker Grayson, widow of Carl B. Grayson. Residence, Charleston, S.C. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services at the graveside in Bethany cemetery, Thursday, at 11 o'clock.
Mrs. Grayson was born January 22, 1923, in Richmond, Va., the daughter of Ashby B. Tucker and Madie Ann Farmer Tucker. She was a retired Secretary with the Arkansas Judicial System.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle G. Tudor of Mena, Ark.; one grandson, Gary Don Tudor, one granddaughter, Leslie Tudor; one sister, Grace T. Hicks of Columbia, S.C.; a niece, Bernie Lou Davis and her husband Rubin of Charleston, S.C., and many other nieces and nephews in Charleston and Columbia.

LONG, SR., Kenneth
Kenneth Howard Long, Sr., died October 22, 2001, at his home. born February 11, 1917, he was the son of John Douglas Long, Jr., and Julia Rebecca (Thomas) Long.
During WWII, he was an electrician at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. On July 3, 1944, he married
"the prettiest girl in the shipyard, " Myrtle Martha Dantzler. A 1954 news article praised his "versatility" and "foresight." He retired in 1972 as Supervisory Engineering Technician.
He enjoyed hunting and loved dogs. A charter member of Deer Park Baptist Church, he serve for decades as treasurer. He was known for his honesty, generosity, compassion, and willingness to help others; the children knew him for his gifts of chewing gum.
Mr. Long is survived by his beloved wife, by his children, Julia Long Towles and Kenneth Long, Jr., and wife, Theresa, by his grandchildren, Louis Towles, III, Angela Mundi (Long) Moss and husband Curry Moss, Rebecca Marie (Towles) Slight and husband William Sligh, and by his brothers, Lewis Long, Francis Long, Thomas Long, and Robert Long.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Thursday, Deer Park Baptist Church. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. BENDT, Laura Mae
Laura Mae Hilton Black Bendt, 85, of John's Island, the widow of Harold J. Bendt and of Jack W. Black, died Monday, October 22, 2001 at her residence. Mrs. Bendt was born Saturday, September 16, 1916 in Charleston, the daughter of George Bule Hilton and Mary Ellen Robinson Hilton. Laura Mae loved to read and crochet but her greatest passion was her family. She will be forever known at the greatest mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Mrs. Bendt is predeceased by a daughter, Jacqueline Elizabeth Black Warren and also a grandson, Joseph Lamar Hazel. Mrs. Bendt is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Mae Black Bayne and Lola Kathleen Black Hazel; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. NETTLES, Elizabeth
SCRANTON - Mrs. Elizabeth Sharon "Litz" Sebnick Nettles, 42, wife of Wyatt Clay Nettles, Jr., died Monday, October 22, 2001, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Mrs. Nettles was born in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of William and Margaret Ladner Sebnick. She was a graduate of Lake City High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina in physical education. She was a four-year all-state swimmer in high school and swam on the University of South Carolina varsity team for three years. She was a mother, friend, and member of the Lake City First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Lake City Junior Women's Club where she served as Vice President and Lake City Primary School Improvement Advisory Council. She was a soccer coach, t-ball coach, and a swimming teacher for over 25 years to more than 1500 swimming students from the area.
Survivors include her husband, Wyatt Clay Nettles, Jr. of Scranton; one son, Wyatt Clay "Trey" Nettles, III of Scranton; one daughter, Margaret Elizabeth "Liza" Nettles of Scranton; her parents, Bill and Peg Sebnick of Lake City; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wyatt and Ginny Nettles of Lake City; two brothers, Tom (Dee) Sebnick of Florence, Eric (Tanya) Sebnick of Scranton; two sisters, Kathie (Joe) Carter of Florence and Maggie (Byron) Beck of Marion; sister-in-law, Nan (Rob) Arnette of Florence; five nieces and three nephews.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2001, in the Lake City First Baptist Church with burial in the Lake City Memorial Park.

TIMMONSVILLE - M. Hazel Knight, 89, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died October 22, 2001 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 o'clock p.m. Thursday at Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery, directed by FLOYD FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today (Wed.) at the funeral home.
born in Florence county, he was a son of the late Willie Wright Knight and Daisy Nettles Knight.
Mr. Knight was a retired farmer and barber, where he was former owner and operator of Brabham Barber Shop on South Dargan Street in Florence. He was a Mason, and a charter member of Oak Grove Lodge #378, where he served as Past Master. He served as Precinct Manager of Oak Grove Voting Precinct, and was a 50 year member of Bethany Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Randall Kirby Sunday School Class, and was a Lifetime Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Lane Knight, a sister, Elise Robinson, and three brothers, Kenneth Knight, Ashton Knight and Sam Knight.
Surviving are two daughters, Myrna K. Hardy of Greenville, SC and Gail Carroll of Sacramento, CA; two sons, Marion H. Knight of Timmonsville and Ronald Knight of Scranton; two sisters, Mrs. Milne Eaddy of Georgetown and Mrs. Henrietta Morris of Charleston; one brother, Melbourne Knight of Lake City; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
YOUMANS, Sarah
COTTAGEVILLE - Miss Sarah Ethel Youmans, 66, of 1079 Rhode Drive died Monday at a local medical center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Little Rock Holiness Church with Rev. John Glen Creel and Linda Gail Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Ackerman cemetery at Red Oak near Cottageville.
Miss Youmans was born in Colleton County, a daughter of the late John Ellison Youmans and Lizzie Ellen McMillan Youmans. She was a member of Little Rock Holiness Church.
Surviving are a sister, Llewellyn Youmans of Cottageville, three brothers, Paul Youmans of Sumter, Jimmy Youmans of Walterboro, and Bill Youmans of Cottageville and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Clyde Youmans.
