ANDREWS - Nettie Miriam Baxley Owens, 73, widow of Samuel Lamar Owens, died Thursday, October 25, 2001, at a Georgetown hospital.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2001, at the Williamsburg Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home will follow in the Andrews Memorial cemetery.
Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday evening, October 27, 2001, at the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Mrs. Owens was born July 19, 1928, in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Leonard Baxley and Marie Barnhill Baxley. She was educated in Williamsburg County School District and a member of the Williamsburg Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are: two sons, Charles Lamar Owens of Andrews and Leonard Owens, of Macedonia; three daughters, Nancy Jane O. Wise of Atlanta, Ga., Peggy Ann O. Wolff of Bonneau, and Betty Jo O. Benson of Charleston; one brother, Buster Baxley of Clinton, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Owens was born May 24, 1935 in Camden, South Carolina, the daughter of Thomas James McIntosh and Ethel Crews McIntosh. She was co-owner and operator of Owens Grocery Store.
She is survived by her husband of James Island, SC; one daughter, Gloria A. Meyer of Summerville, SC; five sons, Marvin S. "Lucky" Owens, Jr. of North Charleston, SC, Thomas J. Owens of Moncks Corner, SC, M. Randy Owens of James Island, SC, Larry J. Owens of Cross, SC and Terry G. Owens of James Island, SC; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

CREEL, JR., John
Colonel John Benjamin Creel, Jr., USMC (Ret), 59, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, husband of Janet G. Creel, died October 20, 2001 in Lexington, VA. Col. Creel was the son of the late Second Lieutenant John B. Creel USMC, who was killed on Saipan during WWII, and Helen Creel Shanley. Col Creel attended Harwinton, CT grammar school and Torrington High School. He graduated from The Citadel in 1964 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration. He earned his Master's of Science degree in Administrative Science from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1978. Col. Creel entered the United States Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant in 1964. His early service as an artillery officer included two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his first tour, Col. Creel was wounded in action as an artillery forward observer. He later returned to Vietnam, serving from December 1968 to December 1969. From 1970-1976, he served in numerous command billets, from Marine Barracks in Argentia, Newfoundland to Jacksonville, Florida, as well as Security Battalion Headquarters at Camp Pendleton, California, and the Marine Detachment at Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines. Col. Creel attended numerous military schools and courses throughout his career, to include The Industrial College of the Armed Forces. While there in 1982, he earned the Joint Chiefs of Staff Award for Research and Writing. From 1979-1991, Col. Creel served in various key positions that included two tours in the Manpower Department of Headquarters, United States Marine Corps; Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment; the Fleet Marine Force Liaison Officer to the 6th Fleet Staff in Europe; and Commanding Officer of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable). Col. Creel's final assignment in the Marine Corps was as the Professor of Naval Science and Commanding Office of the Naval ROTC Unit at The Citadel. He retired from the Marine Corps on 12 May, 1993.Col. Creel's personal decorations include two Silver Stars, one Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars with Combat "V", one Purple Heart, one Meritorious Service Medal, one Navy Commendation Medal, one Combat Action Ribbon and the RVN Cross of Gallantry. Since his retirement from the Marine Corps, Co. Creel was Administrator for the Solicitor, Ninth Judicial Circuit, and most recently was Law Firm Administrator for Pratt-Thomas, Epting and Walker, P.A. He was a member of the Washington Light Infantry and President of the Long Point homeowners association.Col. Creel is survived by daughter, Marlo Creel Bauer and husband Joe Bauer and grandson, Jacob of Lexington, Va, his daughters, CPT Naomi B. Creel, MD, USA of Washington, D.C. and Loranne K. Creel of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., his step-father, Lloyd Shanley, Jr. of Harwinton, Ct., his sister, Nancy Schnyer and brother, William Shanley. A brother, Lloyd Shanley, III preceded him in death.Graveside services will be conducted November 14, 2001 at 3 PM in the Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, VA, with full military honors. Paula A. Bick, age 51, of 5616 Bingham Drive, Portsmouth, Virginia 23703 and formerly of Charleston, SC. She died Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at 2:40 pm. in a local hospital in Portsmouth, VA. Paula Bick was born on April 27, 1950 in Butler, PA. She is the daughter of Sam Zamoski and Edith Runchka. She is the wife of Edward A. Bick. She was a member of Congregation B'Nai Abraham. She was also a member of Slippery Rock University Alumni Association Chapter No.20 Order of Eastern Star in Charleston, South Carolina.

STEWART, Nellie
INDIANTOWN, SC - Nellie Bartell Stewart, died Saturday, October 27, 2001 in a Lake City Hospital. Mrs. Stewart was born in Indiantown, SC, a daughter of the late John Hampton Bartell and the late Sarah Coleman Bartell. She was a retired school teacher for 39 years, having taught at Lake View, Lake City, Hemingway, Indiantown and Williamsburg Academy. She taught at Indiantown Elementary for 26 years and was principle for 4 years. She was a graduate of Indiantown High School, Lander College and received her masters in education from the University of South Carolina, a member of the Indiantown Presbyterian Church, sang in choir for 30 years and was the pianist for the Men's Bible Class. Surviving are 18 nieces and nephews, 50 grand-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday in the Indiantown Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. RODESCHIN, Severin
Severin Henry Rodeschin, 80, of North Charleston, a retired general foreman at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, died Friday in a Charleston hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. born in New York City, he was the son of Robert Severin Pierce Rodeschin and Louise Goldman Rodeschin. Mr. Rodeschin was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He began his military service serving as a Waistgunner on B17's, making 25 German raids based out of England. He was shot down/ditched in the English Channel. He returned to the U.S. Mainland in 1943 where he met and married
his wife, Earline in 1944. They celebrated their 57th Anniversary last month and spent their retirement years cheerfully traveling the United States, many times accompanied by their grandchildren as they grew up. Mr. Rodeschin received the Purple Heart, The Bronze Star, The Distinguished Flying Cross and The Army Presidential Unit Citation on two occasions. He had a long work history in the automotive field working his way to Shop Foreman before leaving the private sector to work and retire as a General Foreman at the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1977. He was a member of WBCCI-Airstream Club, The D.A.V. and The American Legion as well as The Family Motor Coach Association. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Earline Drake Rodeschin; daughters, Donna R. Flosa of Crofton, Maryland and Denise L. Barlock of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Ruth C. Rodeschin and Irene R. Parmenter both of Charleston, Katherine R. Miller of Northridge, California and Freida R. Borurne of Amherst, Ohio; brothers, William Rodeschin and Henry Rodeschin both of Newport, NH; grandchildren, Devon L. Simmons, Wendy D. Bunch, Stephanie L. Barlock and Michael C. Barlock. He was predeceased in death by a daughter, Diane Louise Rodeschin. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral. home. She attended schools in Greeleyville, she was a homemaker and a member of Oakley Road Church of God.
Surviving are her husband; daughter, Mary F. Mason of North Charleston; 2 grandsons, Daryl Huckabee of North Charleston and George Huckabee of North Charleston; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.
