LEXINGTON Lucile Robinson Grant, 87, formerly of Chester, widow of Floyd J. Grant, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Heartland of Lexington in Lexington. Mrs. Grant was born in Fairfield County, Dec. 23, 1916, a daughter of the late Ester Robinson and Cora Boulware Robinson. She was retired from Springs Industries in Lancaster and was a member of First Baptist Church of Chester where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She attended schools in Union County and was a former member of the Garden Gate Garden Club and the Daisey Cuthbertson Circle of Chester.
Surviving are three sons, W. Kent Grant of Lexington, W. Gene Grant of Gilbert and Larry J. Grant of Union; two brothers, Eddie Robinson and Olin Robinson, both of Union; four sisters, Ruby Cudd of Mt. Pleasant, Vivian Adams and Mattie Turner, both of Union and Sara Rice of Greenville; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Chester conducted by the Rev. Clay Waldrip and the Rev. Mark Wyatt. Burial will be in Chester Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her sister, Vivian Adams, of Lockhart Highway in Union. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 518, Chester, S.C. 29706. Barron Funeral Home of Chester has charge of arrangements.
Arree E. Robinson
Arree Elizabeth Robinson, 102, of 700 N. Church St., died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at Wallace Thomson Hospital. Ms. Robinson was born Oct. 30, 1901 in the Bogansville District of Union County, the daughter of the late Sanford and Mary Woodson Robinson. She was a member of Woodson Chapel Baptist Church where she organized the first Youth Musical Choir.
She was a member of the Willing Workers Club, the Jubilee Choir, the Women's Missionary Society and was instrumental in many fund-raising campaigns. She was an original member of the Crawford Hill Community Club and the Woman Aide Society #14. She was an active member of the St. Paul Adult Day Care Center. She worked as a cafeteria worker at Wallace Thomson Hospital and Union County Schools.
Surviving are: a brother, Furman Robinson Sr. of Union; a sister-in-law, Florie G. Robinson of Union; a niece, reared in the home, Yvonne Robinson Holcomb of Union; a great-nephew, Ralphford E. Holcomb Jr. and a great-niece, Cherrossie Tiara Holcomb, both of Union.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Woodson Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert E. Collins and the Rev. Malachi Duncan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
James C. Ivey
PACOLET James Cecil Ivey, 75, of 22 Pecan St., Pacolet, a former resident of Union, died this morning at 4:25 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mr. Ivey was born in Union on Nov. 14, 1927, a son of Lillie Mae McAbee Ivey Lawson of East Gramby, Conn., and the late Doss Ivey. He was a member of Sulpher Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are two daughters, Linda McGowan and Bonnie Early, both of Gaffney; four sons, Charles E. Ivey and Kenneth Ivey, both of Gaffney; Alvin E. Ivey of Spartanburg and James M. Ivey of Gray Court; two sisters, Lillian Greca of East Gramby, Conn., and Brenda McPeak of Ravanna, Ohio; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of his daughter, Linda McGowan, 114 Eastview St., Gaffney. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
Douglas C. Lawson
GREENVILLE Douglas Chalmers Lawson, 63, husband of Vera Sergiacomi Lawson, of 205 Stallings Road, died Saturday, March 1, 2003. Mr. Lawson was born in Union, the son of Evelyn Burgess Lawson of Buffalo and the late Amos Manning Lawson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was general manager of Spartan Leasing for the past 12 years and was former owner of Lawson Lift, Inc. An avid golfer, he was a member of Bonnie Brae and Pebble Creek country clubs.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Lynne Lawson Fugate and her husband, Scott, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Leigh Lawson Reeves and her husband, Hal, of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Henley Fugate, Patrick Fugate, Lawson Reeves, Avery Reeves and Caroline Reeves. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Marshall E. Sargent officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 7 until 8:30 at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive. The Mackey Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
Jane W. Bobo
Jane Wilson Bobo, 75, wife of L. J. Bobo of 106 Chelsea Court, Union, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 4:10 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Bobo was born in Union on Oct. 4, 1928, a daughter of the late Wallace and Sara Koon Wilson. She was a member of Mon-Aetna Baptist Church and the Faye Teague Sunday School Class and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Mrs. Bobo was a graduate of Union High School and Cecil's Business College and was retired from Milliken & Co., Ottaray Plant.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter and son-in-law, Emelie and Ricky Thornton of Union; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dale and Kandy Bobo of Union and Paul Bobo and fiance, Pam Wilhelm, of Spartanburg; four grandsons, Roger Bobo and wife, Amanda, of Greenville, Brian Bobo and wife, Heather, of Buffalo, Lee Thornton and wife, Kristen, of Inman and Neil Bobo and wife, Laura, of Spartanburg; a great-grandchild, Hayley Bobo of Buffalo; three sisters, Elizabeth Bobo of Union, Edith Faucett of Aiken and Ann Crawford of Union; five brothers, Evans Wilson, Albert Wilson Jr. and Ernest Wilson, all of Union, Charles Wilson of Ninety Six and George Wilson of St. Matthews.
Mrs. Bobo was predeceased by a son, Howard Bobo and a granddaughter, Meredith Leigh Bobo and a brother, Sam Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green and Mr. Charley Hughes. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Kyle Nance, Ricky Wilson, Mike Wilson, Sammy Wilson, Keith Davis and Frank Bobo Jr. Doctors and staff of Carolina Internal Medicine are asked to sit in a group. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Friday to await the hour of service. James E. Johnson
CARLISLE James E. (Doc) Johnson, 77, of 5021 Spring St., Carlisle, husband of Bessie Jean Johnson, died at his home Monday, March 1, 2004. He was a son of the late Eddie Johnson and Zeniobie Thompson Johnson and had worked with Southern Railroad. He was a loving father, husband and community member.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Betsy Ann Johnson of Greenbelt, Md.; his stepmother, Mattie Johnson of Santuc; a brother, Ivory Johnson of Union; three sisters, Inez Battle of Washington, D.C., Sally Hunter of Philadelphia, Pa., and Ruby Dawkins of Shelby, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Margrate D. Jennings of Carlisle; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at James Chapel Baptist Church in Carlisle by the Rev. Johnnie C. Edwards. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Friday. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 5021 Spring St., Carlisle. Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Phyllis J. Sartor
Phyllis Jeter Sartor, 88, of 996 Neal Shoals Road, Union, died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, in College Park, Ga. She was born in Union County May 24, 1915, the daughter of the late James and Clara Edith Jeter. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church.
Surviving are three nephews, Jessie Hopkins of Atlanta, Ga., Howard Jeter and James Jeter, both of Washington, D.C. and a niece, Jackie Taylor of Colorado. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Maple Ridge Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Gibson & Brown Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
John W. Holcombe
John Wright Holcombe, 82, of 1349 Meansville Road, husband of Mary Matilene Raley Holcombe, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at 9:21 p.m. in Wallace Thomson Hospital. Mr. Holcombe was born in Union on March 5, 1920, a son of the late Thomas Perry Holcombe and Lalah Ethel Hand Holcombe.
He was retired from United Merchants, Buffalo Plant, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army in the South pacific and Europe. Mr. Holcombe was a member of Westside Baptist Church where he served in many capacities. He taught the children's classes in both Training Union and Sunday School and served as Training Union Director for several years. He worked with the R.A.'s for a number of years and helped with R.A. recognition service. He served as a deacon as well as on many committees and projects. He was caretaker at Westside Baptist for 30 years. He was regular in attendance of all the organizations of the church plus being present at most all services. He was a member of the Men's Bible Class.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years are a daughter and son-in-law, Karen E. and Rev. Jimmy Moore of Washington, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter E. and Beth Holcombe of Union; two brothers, George and Lindberg Holcombe, both of Buffalo; four grandchildren and spouses, Stephanie and Amie Moore of Washington, N.C.; David and Donna Holcombe; Sarah and Wade Stevenson, all of Union and a great-granddaughter, Brittney Nichol Holcombe of Union. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Westside Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Ken Snead, Dr. Trenton Connelly and the Rev. Bobby Crocker.
Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens. The following are asked to assemble at the church Friday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Members of the Men's Bible Class of Westside Baptist, Earl Black, Earl Bryan, Gerald Inabinett, Cecil Gault, Leo Henderson, Willie Pruitt, the Rev. Gary Farmer, Weldon Fallaw, Bobby Malpass, Joe Moore, Randolph Whitehead, Tommy Sinclair and Bill Fallaw. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. and will be placed in the church at 2 p. m. Friday to await the hour of service.

Eva I. Horton
HICKORY GROVE Eva Inman Horton, 92, widow of E. B. Horton Sr., of 4261 Bonner Horton Road, died at her home March 3, 2003. Mrs. Horton was born in Union County. She was a homemaker and member of Schools Shoals Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, E. B. Horton Jr. and William Horton, both of Hickory Grove and Walter Lee Horton of Rock Hill; six daughters, Dorothy Horton and Trula H. Ham, both of Lockhart, Linda H. Belue of Union, Mary Elizabeth Horton of Waco, Texas, Carolyn H. Bradley of Chester and Eleanor H. Michaels of Clover; 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bullock Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Sharon by Rev. Cavin Ogle. The family will receive friends at the Bratton Funeral Home in York tonight from 6 until 8. Bratton Funeral Home of York has charge of arrangements.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pacolet Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Randy McCraw and Chaplain Skip Snyder.

Mrs. Harry M. Arthur
Belonged to many local clubs Frances Copeland Williams Arthur died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at her residence, 522 East Main St., Union. She was the beloved wife of the late Gen. Harry Moore Arthur. Their only daughter was the late Frances Arthur Oxner of Columbia, who was a connoisseur of fine art.
She is survived by three grandchildren Frances Williams Oxner of Pawley's Island, Carlisle Oxner III of Union and Harry Arthur Oxner of Pawley's Island. There are five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many devoted friends. Mrs. Arthur was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, The Book and Garden Club, The Junior Book Club, The Dozen Club and the Union Cotillion Club. She was educated at Converse College.
Funeral services will be held at Grace United Methodist Church Saturday, the 6th of March, at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Gary Byrd. Burial will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jim Switzer, Paul Switzer, Bailey Patrick, Reese Williams, Scott Fant and William Jeter.
The following are asked to assemble at the church Saturday at 10:45 a.m. to form the honorary escort: Barham F. Kennedy, Jack Whitener, Dr. Kent Switzer and Claude Finley. Onekia L. Booker
Onekia Lawanda Booker, 115 Marion St., Laurens, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at her home. She was born in Newberry, the daughter of Shirley Booker of Laurens and Ronnie Booker of Simpsonville.
Surviving in addition to her parents are a son, Tynathien Booker of the home; two sisters, Claissa Worthy of the home and Demonica Garrett of Simpsonville; two brothers, Deangelo Jeter and Ronald Jeter of Woodruff; a niece, Zakiya H. Worthy, and a host of aunts, uncles, and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Blair. Visitation will be from 2 until 7 p.m. Saturday. Hunter Funeral Home of Whitmire has charge of arrangements.
Jessie R. Heatherly
Jessie Rebecca (Beck) Heatherly, 64, of 1627 Mudbridge Road, Jonesville, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at 2:15 a.m. after an extended illness. Miss Heatherly was born in Union on May 1, 1939, a daughter of the late Joseph Paul Heatherly Sr. and Sunie Henson Heatherly. She was a member of West Springs Baptist Church and the Golden Rule Sunday School Class.
Surviving are three brothers, Herbert Heatherly of West Springs, Broadus Heatherly of Shelby, N.C., and Paul Heatherly Jr. of Buffalo; a sister, Aileen H. Quinn of West Springs and several nieces and nephews. Miss Heatherly was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, S.J. Heatherly, Ralph Heatherly and Luncinda H. Arnold.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Springs Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Henry Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Vance Quinn, Mike Gault, Larry Heatherly, Terry Heatherly, Jim Billings, Hugo Lyons and Matt Williamson. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Sunday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 1627 Mudbridge Road, (West Springs Community), Jonesville. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
