Mrs. Rebecca "Becky" Tigert Hawk, 78, of Sheppard Drive in Edgefield, wife of Dr. James M. Hawk, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Monday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Pineview Memorial Park in North Augusta.
Mrs. Hawk was a native of Greer and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of the Ridge. She was a homemaker and was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. She was a member of Lesdames de Fleurs Garden Club, Edgefield County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, ECW and Ladies Luncheon Group.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Jane H. McCabe; a son, Sam Hawk; and two grandsons, Tennant and Lee McCabe. Memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church Building Fund, c/o Jean Covar, 215 Well Road, Edgefield, SC 29824.

Elizabeth 'Diddy' Arthur Turner Langley
Mrs. Elizabeth “Diddy” Arthur Turner Langley, 82, of Red Hill Road in Edgefield, wife of John Edward Langley, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial in Eastview cemetery in Edgefield. Grandsons were pallbearers.
Mrs. Langley was born in Edgefield and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was a retired textile worker.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, Mike (Tonya) Turner, Warrenville, Glenn (Sheryl) Turner, Chris (Cherrill) Turner, both of Edgefield; three daughters, Beth (Jimmy) McCary, Vickie (Danny) Riley, Terri (Greg) Godfrey, all of Edgefield; three stepchildren, Willie (Fran) Langley, Robert (Lynn) Quarles, and Edward Langley; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Babe Turner, and a great-grandchild, Amanda Turner.
Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1843 Hwy. 23 West, Edgefield, SC 29824.

Freddie Moses McKie
Mr. Freddie Moses McKie, My loving husband, our dad and our grandpa, completed his journey of 79 years on December 27, 2008.
He left us to be with his Heavenly Father, his parents and four siblings.
His survivors are his wife of 46 years, Jeanette Blocker McKie; his daughter, Jeannene (Mikey) Santiago; his con, Frederick McKie; his five grandchildren, Donte' and Jonte' Mckie; John, Jayson and Brianna Santiago; his brother, Levi (Carrie) McKie; brother-in-law, Joseph (Evelyn) Blocker; sisters-in-law, Shirley Blocker and Bonnie Blocker; six nieces; four nephews; and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday December 29, 2008 at Old Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Charlie Butler
Mr. Charlie Butler, Sr. 88, of Clearmont Street, entered into rest December 22, 2008 at the Veterans Administration medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mr. Butler, a native of Edgefield County, was a member and deacon of Young Macedonia Baptist Church.
He was also an United States Navy Veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Mamie (Sam) Stallings, Beech Island, S.C.; three sons, Charlie (Lettie) Butler, Jr., Henry Butler, and John (Alberta) Butler, Belvedere, S.C,; a stepdaughter, Ruby T. Mackie; a stepson, Marshall (Barbara) Turner, North Augusta; a brother, Henry (Justine) Butler, Belvedere, S.C,; three sisters, Mamie Martin, Hollis, N.Y, . Min. Pearl (Rev. Johnnie) Highsmith, Baltimore, Md., and Mariah Butler, Hollis, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Butler, Belvedere, S.C., Min. Nellie Butler, North Augusta, and Rosa O'Conner, Herndon, Va.; godson, Maurice Mealing, North Augusta; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Friends may call at the residence of his son, Charlie (Lettie) Buter, 265 Clearmont Street.

Funeral services for Kevin Brown, 20, of Bobwhite Lane, Edgefield, S.C., who entered into rest December 22, 2008, will be conducted Saturday December 27, 2008 at 11 am. from the Posey Funeral chapel.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosa Williams Brooks will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009 at Simmon Ridge Baptist Church, with the Revs. Ruth Miles, Matthew Haskell and Sammie Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Fletcher Brooks; two daughters, Celia Brooks and Dorothy Brooks, both of Edgefield; two sons, Fletcher (Yaskia) Brooks, Batesburg, and Curtis Brooks, North Augusta; four grandchildren; special godchildren, Bryan Williams, Chelsea Morton, Destiny Williams and Malik Williams; two sisters, Eva Walton, Ridge Spring, and Ruby Miles, Trenton; a brother Fred Williams, Edgefield, a brother-in-law, Robert Brooks, Trenton; and sisters-in-law, Sarah Williams, Edgefield, Mary Lee Williams, Johnston, Cleva Mae Johnson, Johnstown, Pa.
Helen Purkall Deignan
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Helen Purkall Deignan, 94, of San Salvador Drive in North Augusta, who died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, was conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Father Tim Lijewski, was celebrant. Final Prayers and Commendation were in Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Deignan was a native of Augusta, Ga., having made her home in North Augusta for the past 13 years. She was the wife of the late William Joseph Deignan Jr.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Bob Johnson, Edgefield, and Helen Ann and John Hopkins, North Augusta; six grandchildren, Pat Barber, Dianne Williams, Teresa Thompson, Ellen Meeker, Andy Hopkins and Tony Hopkins; and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert "Bo" Fanning
North Augusta, South Carolina - Robert "Bo" Hylan Fanning, 75 departed this earth to live with his heavenly father on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Mattie C. Hall Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. John Bolin and Rev. Baxter Stanley officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Bo had lived in the area all his life and attended First Baptist Church Clearwater, Calvary Temple Assembly of God and was a former member of First Assembly of God.
He owned and operated Fanning Printing Shop for fifty years and also Video City in Aiken. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Willie Mae Fanning, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Fisher Miller, Edgefield, South Carolina and the grandchildren he adored, April and Craig Miller. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Seekers Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church Clearwater or to the Missionary Group of First Assembly of God.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 1134 Telfair St., Augusta, Georgia 706-722-5566.
R.W. 'Jimmy' Buck Sr.
Mr. R.W. “Jimmy” Buck Sr., husband of Faye H. Buck, of Modoc, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009.
A graveside service was held Friday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at Sunset memorial Gardens in Graniteville, with Chaplain Lynda Sims officiating.
Mr. Buck was retired from PYA/Monarch Foods as sales manager and former owner of Burgers and Cream in Bath. He enjoyed traveling, was an avid golfer and was a Georgia Bulldog fan.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his mother, Louise G. Buck, Augusta, Ga.; children, Randy Hammock, Augusta, Beverly Buck (Rusty) Jennings, Martinez, Ga., Faye Buck (Ray) Griswell, North Augusta, Lynn Buck (Allen) Griffis, Waynesboro, Ga., Rod W. (Helen) Buck Jr., Augusta, Ga. and April Buck Waynesboro, Ga.; his sister, Janie Buck (Paul) Walton, Martinez, Ga.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, “Teddie.”
He was preceded in death by his father, J.M. Buck Sr., and his brother, J.M. Buck Jr.

James O'Dell Pearson
Mr. James O'Dell Pearson, 81, of Callison Highway in McCormick, husband of Grace Wilson Pearson, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at Hospice House in Greenwood.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic rites.
Mr. Pearson was a native of McCormick and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. He retired from Milliken Textile after 44 years of service. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was a member of the Caldwell Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Ann P. Proett, Orangeburg; three sons, Jeff Pearson, Troy, Jimmy Pearson, Mt. Pleasant, and Bill Pearson, Yorktown, Va.; a sister, Vivian P. Smith, Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Howell Pearson, Charlotte, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

James Broadwater
Funeral services for Mr. James Broadwater, of Cincinnati, Ohio, were held Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Walker Funeral Home in Cincinnati. Burial was in Vine Street cemetery.
Survivors include two children, James and Betty Broadwater, Cincinnati; two sisters, Viola Brightharp and Frances (James) Brighthop, Trenton; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Harold Smith
Mr. Harold Smith, 65, of Flat Rock Road in Modoc, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was a native of Edgefield and was the son of the late John A. and Nellia Doolittle Smith and was a retired driver from several logging companies.
Survivors include a son, Randy (Melanie) Smith, Edgefield; a daughter, Audra (Jeff) Bedenbaugh, Modoc; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Jacob, Olivia, Matthew, Jared; six sisters, Lena Turner, Myrtle Beach, Edna Clark, Ninety Six, Joyce Insley, Langley, Ruth Gallaway, Workman Riley, Marion Morrow, both of Edgefield; and a companion, Geraldine (Jello) Haynes.
George W. Wright
Mr. George W. Wright, of York, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 5, at 3 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
Mr. Wright was born in Edgefield County and was retired from S.C. Budget & Control Board as a communication specialist. He was a Navy veteran and of the Episcopal faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Wright, Chicago, Ill., and Melanie Wright, Charleston; three sisters, Cephia Quattlebaum and Mary Wright, Aiken, and Beverly Ford, North Augusta; two brothers, Ronnie Wright, Belvedere, and Phillip Wright, North Augusta.

Dorothy Platts Cone
Dorothy Platts Cone, 91, a native of Hampton County (Hickory Grove Section), widow of the late Clyde Cone, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Robert Edwin and Pearl Loadholt Platts.
A resident of Ridge Spring, she co-owned Cones Meats and Farm. A merchant in Ridge Spring for over 70 years, she was a longtime member of Ridge Sprint Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher and Training Union teacher for many years and was a member of the Mildred Bomar Sunday School Class and Treasurer of WMU.
She was also a member of The Ridge Garden Club, The Study Club of Ridge Spring, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
The family would like to express special thanks to Tri-County Hospice and Mary Lee Salter, her friend and cargiver. Surviving are one brother, Edwin Platts of Ridge Spring and one sister, Elinor Crews of Denmark, SC.
