A memorial service for Mrs. Marina Waters Kirkland, 71, of Johnston, was held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Johnston United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kirkland, a native of Johnston, died Saturday, Jan. 31. She was a daughter of the late Philemon B. and Edith Wright Waters. She retired after 47 years from H.G. Reynolds Construction Co. as office manager and accountant. She was a member of Johnston United Methodist Church including membership in the UMW, the Margaret Cox Circle and The Wesley Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Ridge Heritage Association and a former member of the Johnston Woman’s Club.
Survivors include her husband, Roy E. Kirkland Sr.; a daughter, Valerie K. Holmes (Joe); and a son, Roy E. Kirkland Jr. (Rhette), both of Johnston; a sister, Betty Phil (Tina) Odham, Sebring, Fla.; a grandson, Marshall K. Crocker, Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Earl B. “Trey” Glover
Funeral services for Mr. Earl B. “Trey” Glover III, 27, of North Augusta, who died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m. at Posey Funeral Home Chapel.
The Rev. Larry Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Plum Branch cemetery.
Mr. Glover was a lifelong resident of North Augusta. He attended Plum Branch First Baptist Church and he was employed by Connell’s Amusement Co., Inc.
Survivors include his father and his wife, Bo and Connie Glover, North Augusta; his mother, Sherron Glover, Trenton; a brother, Kyle Glover, North Augusta; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Ashley and Keith Fulmer, Corrie Glover, Ryan and Carl Davis and Stephanie Wehr, all of North Augusta; step-grandparents, Bill and Brenda Adams, North Augusta; two nieces, Taylor Fulmer and Whitney Fulmer; four nephews, Tucker Fulmer, Jaylen Davis, Keylen Davis and Sterlin Glover; a great nephew, Aiden Rearden; a special aunt and uncle, Sandra and Larry Riley and their daughter, Latisha; and several other aunts and uncles; and his loving dog, Fantasy.
The family will be at the residence of his sister, Ashley Fulmer, 1263 Lake Greenwood Drive, North Augusta.
Marion Glanton
Mr. Marion Glanton, 55, of Hillman Street in Warrenville, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, June 24, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Mr. Glanton was born in Edgefield County and was a retired supervisor for the Avondale Company. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Renee (Rodney) Austett, Nichole Glanton (Keith Sheppard), both of Warrenville, Miranda (Craig) Roberts, Virginia; two brothers, Gerald and Marvin Glanton, both of Edgefield; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Patricia H. Mabe, 51, of Sable Lane in Trenton, who died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
The Rev. Robert Huffman and Dr. Paul W. Noe officiated. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.

Phil Harris (Trey) Herring, III
Funeral Services for Phil Harris (Trey) Herring, III, age 30, will be held Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 11 am at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church with burial to follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Bland Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm.

Phil, a native of Johnston, died Sunday, February 1, 2009. He was son of Sylvia Courtney and the late Phil Harris Herring, Jr. He was employed as a Doc Supervisor with Orion Trucking, was a veteran having served in the US Air Force and was of Lutheran Faith.
Survivors include his mother: Sylvia Courtney; stepfathers: Thomas Holsomback and Ronnie Courtney; son: Tristan D. Herring; brother: Houston L. Holsomback; sisters: Morgan L. Holsomback and Heather N. Holsomback; 3 stepbrothers and 1 stepsister.
Elizabeth Parkman Whatley
Mrs. Elizabeth Parkman Whatley, 84, of Ninety Six, wife of Samuel Eugene Whatley, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at Hospice House in Greenwood.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 30, at 4 p.m. at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Melvin Brown officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
born in Greenwood County on Nov. 24, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Curtis and Jeanette Shaffer Parkman. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant and was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Barbara W. Reid, Ninety Six; a granddaughter, Kristi Cothran, Ninety Six; a great-grandson, Michael Cothran, Ninety Six; three sisters, Margie Wash, Lois McVey and Ila Burgess, all of Greenwood; two brothers, Marvin Parkman and William “Bo” Parkman, both of Greenwood. She was the sister-in-law of Payne Whatley of Edgefield.
She was predeceased by a brother, Irven Parkman.

Doris Salter Thomas
Mrs. Doris Salter Thomas, 88, of Old Plank Road in Johnston, wife of the late James O. Thomas, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Johnston.
Mrs. Thomas was a native of Edgefield County and was retired from Mt. Vernon Mill. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School class treasurer and was a member of the choir.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara (Raymond) Cook, Trenton, Glenda Thomas Gunter, Gilbert; a son, Allen W. (Kathy) Thomas, Johnston; four granddaughters, Gayle (Eddie) Wilson, Edgefield, Megan Paige Thomas, Debbie Godfrey, both of Johnston, Hope Shaw, Greenwood; five grandsons, Thomas R. (Brenda) Cook, Trenton, Alex Oneil Thomas, Johnston, Charlie S. Boatwright, Gilbert, Richard (Melody) Boatwright, James K. (Crystal) Boatwright, both of Gilbert; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, Jimmy and George W. Thomas, and a grandson, Mike Cook.

Mrs. Annie Mae Simpkins, 91, of Mims Street in Edgefield, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 in Ridge Spring.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. at Liberty Spring Baptist Church, with the Rev. Annette Edwards officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Simpkins, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Liberty Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Janie Mae Dixon, Edgefield, Yvonne (L.D.) Walker, Ridge Spring, and Ellen Cunningham, McCormick; a son, Joe Louis “Billy” (Lillie Ruth) Jones, Greenwood; sister-in-law, Bernice Morgan, Edgefield; brother-in-law, Franklin (Susie Bell) Simpkins, Edgefield; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Christopher E. Perry
Memorial services for Mr. Christopher E. Perry, 43, of Sweetwater Road in North Augusta, who died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church. Pastor Phillip Hamilton will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service and will be at the residence of his mother, 315 Sweetwater Road, North Augusta.
Mr. Perry was a lifelong resident of North Augusta. He was a contractor and the son of the late Gorman Perry.
Survivors include two daughters, Kristen Elizabeth Perry and Lindsey Jade Perry, both of North Augusta; his mother, Mattie Perry, North Augusta; a brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Debra Perry, North Augusta; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Kevin McMillan, Debbie and Tim Robinson, all of North Augusta, and Lori and Benjamin Butler, Aiken.

James Lewis Fulmer
Mr. James Lewis Fulmer, 82, of Carolina Springs Road in North Augusta, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Allen Cantrel officiating. Burial was in Westview cemetery in Augusta, Ga.
Mr. Fulmer was born in Johnston to the late Mr. and Mrs. Haskell Lewis Fulmer. He retired from Graniteville Company’s Townsend Division with 45 years of service and he was the owner and operator of Fulmer’s Produce.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Diane Laws, Beech Island, Carol Frye, New Ellenton, Cheryl Miles (Robert), Bath, and Coni Fulmer, North Augusta; his sons, Daniel Harris, North Augusta, and Ronald Fulmer, Columbia; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ruth Fulmer, and a son, Donald Harris.
Willie Lawrence Jones
Funeral services for Mr. Willie Lawrence Jones, of Edgefield, were held Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 at New Bethel FBH Holiness Church, with the Rev. Dennis Jeffcoat, pastor, and the Rev. Tony Lawson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Valarie Elam; siblings, Benjamin Jones, Charles Jones, Alma Lee, Mary Green, Carolyn Swann, Vivian Jones; a companion, Rosalind Simpkins; and three grandchildren.

Bledsoe, 90, widow of Perry Ransom Bledsoe, of Saluda, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at Saluda Nursing Center.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. at Bland Funeral Home Chapel in Johnston, with the Rev. Vernon Odelle Anderson officiating.
born June 1, 1918 in Saluda County, she was the second daughter of Ben and Mamie Emma Harrison Turner. She was a longtime member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church and was an active participant in the Church Women’s Missionary Union.
Surviving are three daughters, Annette B. Anderson and husband the Rev. Vernon Odell Anderson, Laurens, Cora Elizabeth Murdaugh and husband Wade Howard Murdaugh, Leesville, and Dora Mae “Dolly” Evans and husband Dr. Forest Luke Evans Sr., Bishopville; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Miriam T. Rushton, Ninety Six; and a brother, Richard C. Turner, Johnston.

YORK -- Joseph "Jo" Marvin Huffstetler, 59, of 1088 Turkey Creek Ridge Road, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

ROCK HILL -- Mr. Gerald F. Clinton of Rock Hill died Wednesday, May 14, 2008.
He is survived by a sister, Gayle McCarter; his daughters, Mindy Curtis, Sammie Shepherd and Melissa Vaughn; and a son, Michael Wood.

Mrs. Mary Turner 'Lib' Branch, 88
CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Mary Turner "Lib" Branch of 2067 Lancaster Hwy. was conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sam Warwick officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Branch, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at her residence.
born in Chester County on Sept. 8, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Isacc Turner and Bessie Jackson Turner. A graduate of Oakley Hall High School, Mrs. Branch was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church and was retired from Springs Industries. She was also the owner and operator of Lib's Flower Shop.
Survivors include a son, Lewis Branch of Chester; two daughters, Joyce B. Bolton of Chester and Linda S. Brooks of Anchorage, Alaska; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Julia Sprouse of Rock Hill and Virginia Etters of Rodman.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil Cooper Branch.
