Mrs. Mary Belle Chisholm, 86

CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Mary Belle White McCullough Chisholm of Chester Regional Nursing Center, formerly of 1362 Macon Drive, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 17 at Old Wilson Baptist Church. The Rev. John E. Robinson will officiate and be assisted by the Rev. Joseph Neal, the Rev. Jelester Sanders, the Rev. Alonzo Gregory and the Rev. Paul Long. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Chisholm, 86, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Chester Regional Medical Center.

born in Fairfield County on April 11, 1918, she was a daughter of the late James White and Susie Watson White. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she served with the Deacons' Wives Ministry, the hymnal choir and the Senior Missionary Society, Mrs. Chisholm was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Lily White Chapter No. 127 and more recently the Queen Bathsheba Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 7. Mrs. Chisholm was a former member of Old Wilson Baptist Church, where she was active in the Senior Missionary Society, the hymnal choir the the Board of Deaconesses. She attended the public schools of Chester County and was a domestic worker for many years before becoming employed as a dietary aide with Dauphin County Nursing Center in Harrisburg, Pa.

Survivors include two sisters, Marian L. White McCullough McDonald of Chester and Arsonia White McCaskill of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, Maggie Feaster Chisholm of Trenton, N.J.; a devoted friend, Elizabeth Macon of Chester; two goddaughters, Dorothy Rice and Lula Belle Macon, both of Chester; a godson, William C. Macon of Orlando, Fla.; and a devoted cousin, James White and his wife, Izetta, of Chester.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Arthur "Noni" Chisholm; and a sister, Lugenia White Davis.

The family will receive friends at the home of Henry and Linda Macon, 1411 Firetower Road, Chester.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 130 Walnut St., Chester or to Old Wilson Baptist Church, 1549 Pleasant Grove Road, Chester.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to noon today at King's Funeral Home, 135 cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. today.

King's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Larry Wilson Harris

Mr. Larry Wilson Harris, of Willis Street in Batesburg, died Wednesday, April 2, 2009.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, at 3 p.m. at Calidonia Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Davis Funeral Home of Ridge Spring was in charge of arrangements.

Runnie Price Dais

Mrs. Runnie Price Dais, 70, of Aiken Avenue in North Augusta, died Saturday, April 4, 2009.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Mrs. Dais, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Grover Dais Sr.; three daughters, Mary E. White, Augusta, Patricia (Clarence) Blaylock and Brenda Dais, North Augusta; two nieces which she raised as daughters, Carolyn (Ricky) Livingston, Atlanta, Ga., and Brenda Howell, Germany; three sons, Grover Dais Jr., North Augusta, Stanley Eric Dais, Augusta, Ga., and Otis Lee Dais, Stone Mountain, Ga.; five sisters, Annie Mae Merriweather, Eunice (John Henry Padgett) and Verdell (Sam) Lewis, New York, Ethel Sims, Warrenville, and Lillian (Roosevelt) Garrett, Trenton; three brothers, John Henry (Alberta) Price, Aiken, Johnnie (Lillian) Price and Jessie (Michelle) Price, New York; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lillie Bell Price, Sarah Whitaker and Patricia Price; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.

George David Bush

Mr. George David Bush, 90, of Johnston, died Thursday, April 2, 2009.

A private graveside service was held at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park on Friday, April 3, following visitation at Bland Funeral Home.

Mr. Bush, a native of Johnston, was a son of the late Andrew St. Pierre and Maggie Rhoden Bush. He retired from Milliken and Co. and was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Margaret Randall (Lenzy) and Donna Strom (Ronald); five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Claudine Derrick Bush; a daughter, Betty Ann Bush; and a grandson, Travis Abney.

Memorials may be made to MCG Health Children's Medical Center, 1120 15th Street, Suite BA 8270, Augusta, GA 30912 or to Hospice Care of SC, 510 Augusta Road, Suite B, Edgefield, SC 29824.

Phillip Abner

Mr. Phillip Abner, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Ridge Spring, died Saturday, March 28, 2009.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 3, at 1 p.m. at Hart Spring Baptist Church in Ward. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Saluda.

Davis Funeral Home, Ridge Spring, was in charge of arrangements.

Addie Lou Harris Russell

Mrs. Addie Lou Harris Russell, 77, of Thurmond Street in Edgefield, wife of the late Leon W. Russell, died Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 31, at 3 p.m. at Eastview cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Lynette, Gloria and Rosie; a sister, Lula Mae; a brother, George; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Wesley Moore

Mr. Samuel Wesley Moore, 64, of Ridge Spring, husband of Brenda Sue Leaphart Moore, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel in Langley.

Burial was in Aiken Memorial Gardens in Aiken.

Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Scott McNally

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Scott McNally, 80, of Johnston, were held Thursday, March 26, 2009 at noon at Providence Baptist Church. Burial was in Philippi Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. McNally, a native of Aiken, died Monday, March 23. She was a daughter of the late William Thomas and Kella New Boatwright and was a retired textile employee with Riegel, Inc. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Patsy S. Mitchell (Mike); a son, Don Scott (Jean); a sister, Earline Bledsoe; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Bland Funeral Home, Johnston, was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret S. Herlong

Mrs. Margaret S. Herlong, of Johnston, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Edgefield County Hospital.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rebecca Shirley officiating.

Mrs. Herlong was a lifelong resident of Johnston (the Harmony Community) and was a lifelong member of Harmony United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Anna Timmerman (John) and Leona McAloney; grandchildren, Jeff Yonce (Rhonda), Mark Yonce, Gregg Yonce (Allyson), Allyson English (Mark), John Crafton Timmerman, Leslie Alderman, Michele Goforth (David), Meg Quick (Tommy), Karen Hill (Craig); and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Herlong, and daughter, Jeannette Yonce.

Memorials may be made to Harmony United Methodist Church, c/o Andy Livingston, P.O. Box 186, Johnston, SC 29832.

James B. (Jim) Borden

Mr. James Bennett (Jim) Borden, 82, of Calhoun St., husband of the late Vivian Turner Borden, died Sunday 3-29-09 at the V. A. Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday 4-2-2009 at 11 A.M. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home with burial at Pine View Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites and Military Honors.

Mr. Borden was born in Rome, Ga. and was a member of Johnston First Baptist Church.

He was the former owner of Borden Pest Control. He was U. S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Concordia Lodge # 50. He was a Mason and Shriner and served on the Shriner's Children's Hospital Committee.

Survivors include 3 Sons- Steve Borden, Leesville, Stan Borden, Saluda, Richard Borden, Augusta; 1 Brother- Joe Borden, Atlanta; 2 Sisters- Betty Whittmore, Maryville, TN, Shirley Patterson, Atlanta; 8 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren. A special friend Jean Pitts. Mr. Borden was predeceased by a Grandson, Dennis Borden.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday 4-1-09 at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Claire R. Ryan

Mrs. Claire R. Ryan, 93, of Clarks Hill, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Trinity Mission in Edgefield.

Graveside services were held Sunday, March 15, at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery in Clarks Hill, with the Rev. Randall Whitaker officiating.

Mrs. Ryan was born in Beaufort on Jan. 29, 1916. She was a member of Asbury Methodist Church. She retired after 32 years as postmaster at Clarks Hill.

She is survived by two sons, Billy (Eleanor) Ryan, Clarks Hill, and John Ryan, Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Carolyn (Lucky) Ellison, Gaston, and Ann Williams, North Augusta; a brother, Lewis Rich, Evans, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William B. Ryan.

Strom Funeral Home, McCormick, was in charge of arrangements.

Vernon "Ray" Sanders

Mr. Vernon "Ray" Sanders, 85, of Ridge Spring, died Sunday, March 15, 2009.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 17, at 4 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. J.B. Redd officiating.

Mr. Sanders was born in Ridge Spring, the son of the late J.W. and Lula Satcher Sanders. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and served in the Navy and in World War II. He retired from Baltimore, Md., then moved back to Ridge Spring.

Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Vernon Carter (Ann), Aiken, Norman Carter (Jan), Leesville, Shelvedene Gayle, Clearwater, Frances Jones (Charles), Aiken, and Claudia Moore (Ronnie), Aiken.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jessie Mae Sanders Carter.

Milton Shealy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Melvin Bryant

Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Bryant, of Johnston, were held Monday, March 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Rosa Spring Baptist Church, with the Rev. Winston Oliphant, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Melvin J. Bryant; two daughters, Dariell Eskridge and Michelle Bryant; four brothers, Luther Bryant, Nathaniel Bryant, Ronnie Bryant and Johnny 'Tony' Bryant; four sisters, H. Marie Williams, Delane Bryant, Yvonne Nicholson and Johnny Mae Dobbs; 11 grandchildren; and three uncles.

Amos & Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert J. "Bob" Welsh Jr.

Mr. Robert J. 'Bob' Welsh Jr., 77, of Highland Avenue in Edgefield, husband of Betty Welsh, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at his residence.

A Funeral Mass was held Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edgefield. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Welsh was born in Colonie, N.Y., and has made his residence in Edgefield for 54 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was the executive vice president and general manager of Star Fibers where he retired in 1989.

He was the Edgefield County Hospital administrator from 1989 until he retired in 1996. Mr. Welsh was also a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jody Dye, Jackson, and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Wilkerson, North Augusta; three sons, Robert Welsh III, Trenton, Paul K. Welsh, Summerville, Jason Welsh, Cary, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edgefield Mercantile Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
