Mr. Jack Ouzts, 86, of Edgefield, husband of Lucille Reynolds Ouzts, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Ouzts was a native of Edgefield and was a member of Edgefield Church of God. He was a retired textile worker and was a veteran of World War II.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Dianne (Dennis) Wall; a son, Jackie Ouzts,; a brother, John Ouzts, all of Edgefield; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Dennis Borden.

Lloyd Cannady Sr.
Mr. Lloyd Cannady Sr., 90, of Highway 28 in Plum Branch, died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
Mr. Cannady, a native of McCormick County, was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Elizabeth (Thomas) Morgain, McCormick, Pamelia Moton, Plum Branch, the Rev. Carmilla (Willie) Simpkins, Edgefield, Verlinda (Tony) Thomas, Columbia, Denise Yeldell, Greenwood, and Betty White, Charlotte; three sons, Lloyd Cannady Jr., McCormick, Thomas Cannady, Greenwood, and Samuel Cannady, Plum Branch; three sisters, Essie (Willie) Thompkins, Greenwood, Leila (Joe) Edwards, Chicago, Ill., and Fannie (George) Searles, Washington, D.C.; two brothers, William Tom Cannady, McCormick, and John W. Cannady, Detroit, Mich; 35 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Margaret Ann Hibbs Tuten
Ms. Margaret Ann Hibbs Tuten, 76, of Old Orangeburg Road in Estill, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at her residence.
A memorial service was held Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. at Edgefield First Baptist Church in Edgefield, conducted by the Rev. Stacey Williams.
born April 24, 1932 in Vine Grove, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Charles Owen Hibbs and Mary Davis Hibbs. She had taught school in Trenton, Edgefield, and Estill Middle School in Estill. She attended Western Kentucky University and earned a B.S. and M.Ed. in education from Augusta College. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority, the Order of the Eastern Star and was of the Baptist faith.
She was married
to Curtis Tuten until 1988.
She is survived by her children, Bill Tuten and his fiancé Tina Hampton of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Bob and Janice Tuten of Liberty; two brothers, John Hibbs of Lexington, Ky. and Bill Hibbs of Vine Grove, Ky.; two sisters, Marycharles Howe of Hartford, Conn. and Susan Hibbs of Lamoine, Maine; two grandchildren, Michelle and Kevin Tuten; and special friends, Tim and Marilyn Tyler of Estill.
Memorial services will be held today, March 11, in Vine Grove, Ky.
Mr. Clyde 'Bro' McCullough, 54
EDGEMOOR - The funeral for Mr. Clyde Albert "Bro" McCullough of 113 Apt. B Hillcrest Drive, Rock Hill, was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 at Red Oak A.M.E. Zion Church in Edgemoor. Pastor Gary Smith officiated and was assisted by the Rev. J.W. Boyd Jr. and the Rev. Charles Robinson. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. McCullough, 54, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
born in Chester County, he was a son of the late John P. McCullough and Mary Lee McCullough. A member of Red Oak A.M.E. Zion Church, Mr. McCullough was employed as a painter with Southeastern Construction Company of Lancaster until he became disabled. A 1968 graduate of Finley High School, Mr. McCullough also graduated from Friendship Junior College and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Felisha Rochelle McCullough of Rock Hill; a brother, Joe L. McCullough and his wife, Sadie R.; three sisters, Lena Boyd of Buffalo, N.Y., Clara Gilmore of Rock Hill and Alberta M. McCullough and her husband, Ronald, of Edgemoor; and a devoted friend and caregiver, Thomasine Gilliam.
He was predeceased by a brother, James R. McCullough; and a sister, Elizabeth M. Patton.

Mrs. Dolly Elizabeth Bass Watts, 66
UNION, S.C. - The funeral for Mrs. Dolly Elizabeth Bass Watts of 179 Jeter cemetery Road was conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at Salem Baptist Church. The Rev. Don Leslie and the Rev. Alvin Biggerstaff, minister to the deaf, officiated and burial followed in Chester Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Watts, 66, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Wallace-Thomson Hospital in Union.
born in Chester on Feb. 7, 1938, she was a daughter of the late John Joe Bass and Carrie Lou Feaster Bass. A member of Salem Baptist Church, Mrs. Watts attended Chester High School and was retired from Springs Industries.
Survivors include two daughters, Angela Watts Flynn of Rock Hill and Dolly Ann Watts of Lancaster, Calif.; a son, Ernest Lee Watts Jr. of Columbia; two brothers, Joseph T. Bass of Chesnee, S.C. and Wylie A. Bass of Carlisle; and two sisters, Fran Bass Wilson and Sarah Bass Sistrunk, both of Carlisle.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Lee Watts Sr.
Memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church, Tinker Creek Road, Union, S.C. 29379.

Mrs. Helen Brown Moore, 76
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mrs. Helen Brown Moore of 562 Tanglewood Lane in the Pea-Ridge Community was conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Paradise A.M.E. Zion Church in Great Falls. The Rev. J.E. Long officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Cookie Washington and the Rev. William Hayes. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Moore, 76, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
born in Hemingway, S.C. on July 17, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Laura Brown.
Mrs. Moore was educated at Chavis High School in Hemingway and was a member of Mount Carmel A.M.E. Church, also located in Hemingway.
She moved to Florida and then to Great Falls in 1960, where she became a member of Paradise A.M.E. Zion Church. Mrs. Moore was employed at Apple Tree Fashion and later Ebert's Sportswear until her health declined in 1996.
She enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending quality time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Moore Sr.; six children, Ruthena Marshall and Herbert (Eddie) Brown, both of New Albany, Ind., Jacob Brown, Sidney Jackson and Lorettia Ward, all of Great Falls, and Leroy Moore Jr. of Lawton, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three sisters, Margaret Staggers of Carolina Beach, N.C., Louise McCrea of Pemberton, N.J. and Pearl Blackwell of Wilmington, N.C.
She was predeceased by a son, Lambert Brown Croslin of Miami, Fla.

Mr. Grady Lee Fowler, 79
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mr. Grady Lee Fowler of 212 St. Michael Ave. was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 28 at Second Baptist Church. The Rev. Tommy Howell and the Rev. N.J. Neely officiated and burial followed in Greenlawn cemetery.
Mr. Fowler, 79, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
born in Great Falls on Jan. 11, 1925, he was a son of the late Edgar Fowler and Engie Killian Fowler. A member of Second Baptist Church of Great Falls, Mr. Fowler attended school in Great Falls and was retired from J.P. Stevens Company. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Fowler was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes Young Fowler; a son, Jerry Fowler of Great Falls; a daughter, Lynn Gibson of Blackstock; four grandchildren; and a brother, Ellis Fowler of Indianapolis.

Thomas L. Freeman Sr.
Deacon Thomas L. Freeman Sr., of Luke Ferry Road in Clarks Hill, son of the late Jessie and Myra Freeman, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at Laura Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Winston Oliphant officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Freeman, a native of McCormick County, was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Beatrice Brooks Freeman; eight sons, Thomas L Freeman Jr., Claude Freeman (Dorothy), Robert Freeman, James Freeman (Theresa), Ernest Freeman, Michael Freeman (Artrina), Alan Freeman and Bernard Freeman (Anna); four daughters, Hattie Freeman, Juanita Cumberbatch (Rodney), Linda Ivey (Melvin) and Tycia Jones; two brothers, Clarence Freeman and James Freeman (Irene); six sisters, Carrie Burch (Leonard), Margaret Turman, Lillian Broadwater, Janie Freeman, Bertha Freeman and Mary Gardenhire (Willie); 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives.

Mrs. Mahala Jordan James, 80
CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Mahala Jordan James, 80, of 168 Center St., will be conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 13 at Metropolitan AME Zion Church. The Rev. Sharon B. Jenkins will officiate, assisting Rev. Dr. Carl A. Glen and the Rev. Eldren Morrison.
Mrs. James died Tuesday, June 8 at Chester County Hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, Mrs. James was born on Feb. 7, 1924 to the late Arthur Jordan Sr. and Mahala Dawkins Jordan.
Mrs. James was a 1945 graduate of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, where she received her degree in Early Childhood Education.
She was a member of Metropolitan AME Zion Church, where she served as a deaconess, a member of the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Stewardess Board No. 2 and a conference worker.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a son Eddie Louis James Jr., a brother, Arthur Jordan Jr., and two sisters: Wynters H. Sesley and Elizabeth Davidson.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Louis James Sr., of the home; two sons, Robert Kenneth (Maggie) James Sr., and Thomas Benny (Sylvia) James Sr., both of Chester; one granddaughter, Carmen J. (Anthony) McClinton of York; a grandson reared in the home, USN E5 Robert Kenneth James Jr., Rota, Spain; and three other grandsons, Alexander Centre James, Keith Bernard Camps and Thomas Benny James Jr.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 168 Center St., Chester. Memorials may be made to the Metropolitan AME Zion Church (Historic Preservation) Building Fund, 182 York St., Chester.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church from 2 p.m. until the hour of service.

Miss Sunny Nicole Conner, 18
FORT LAWN - The funeral for Miss Sunny Nicole Conner, 18, of 4458 Lazy "H" Road, Fort Lawn, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Barron Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Lando cemetery.
Conner died Thursday, June 10 in an automobile accident.
born in Rock Hill on Nov. 28, 1985, Miss Conner was the daughter of Billy Jordan and Beverly (Conner) Dosier.
Miss Conner was a 2004 graduate of Lewisville High School, where she served on student council. She was a member of Westerly Baptist Church, Fort Mill.
She is survived by her father, Billy; her mother and step-father, Doug and Beverly Dosier of Fort Lawn; two brothers, Corey and Brandon Conner, both of Fort Lawn; a maternal grandmother, Betty Conner of Fort Lawn; a paternal grandfather, William A. Jordan of Rock Hill; one half-sister, Linda Jordan, of Catawba, and her fiancé, Kevin Threatt of Fort Lawn.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Barron Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Sonny and Angie Conner, 2007 Chestnut Lane, Edgemoor, and at the home of Doug and Beverly Dosier, 4458 Lazy "H" Road, Fort Lawn.

Mr. James 'Jim' Pressley Jr., 70
CHESTER - Graveside services for Mr. James Brenton "Jim" Pressley Jr. of 123 West End St. will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 1 in Zion Presbyterian Church cemetery with the Rev. Rick Wheeler and the Rev. Chip Sneed officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be law enforcement officers of Chester County and the City of Chester.
Mr. Pressley, 70, died Monday, March 29, 2004, at Chester County Hospital.
born in Chester County on Jan. 26, 1934, he was a son of the late James Brenton Pressley Sr. and Hettie Mae Brown Pressley. A member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Mr. Pressley graduated from Chester High School and attended Clemson University on a football scholarship. A major with the Chester County Sheriff's Department, he was a member of IPTAY and formerly served as a U.S. Marshall. Mr. Pressley also formerly served as the sheriff of Chester County and was a member of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Association.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Rowland Pressley; three daughters, Wendy Pressley, Candy S. Grant and Debra A. Slack, all of Chester; a son, Randy Myers of Chester; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Tom B. Pressley and John N. Pressley, both of Chester.
He was predeceased by a sister, Joan McKay.
The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m. at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie St., Chester.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 651 Great Falls Hwy., Chester.

Mr. Gavin Cunningham, 34
LANCASTER - The funeral for Mr. Gavin Bernard Cunningham was conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28 from the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home. The Rev. Ricky Haile and the Rev. Gary Stevens officiated and burial followed in the Fort Lawn cemetery.
Mr. Cunningham, 34, died Monday, March 22, 2004, in Detroit.
born in Lancaster, he was a son of Glenda Cunningham Walker and Frank Buchanon. He was employed with McDonald's.
