CHESTER - The funeral for Mr. Robert James McKown of 577 Great Falls Road will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Friday, Oct. 8 at Chester Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Clint H. Davis, the Rev. Dwight Pearson and the Rev. Clyde McCants will officiate and burial will follow in Chester Memorial Gardens.
Mr. McKown, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
born in York County on April 6, 1917, he was a son of the late George Washington McKown and Edna Castles McKown. A member of Chester Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, Mr. McKown graduated from Blackstock High School and attended Erskine College. A retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Mr. McKown served in the 85th Division of the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Robert J. McKown Jr. and his wife, Patti, of Columbia; a sister, Rachel R. McKown of Blackstock; and one grandson.
He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Cranford McKown.
Memorials may be made to Chester A.R.P. Church, P.O. Box 174, Chester.

Melvin Middleton
Mr. Melvin Middleton, 72, of Jamaica, N.Y., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mr. Middleton, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Carey Hill Baptist Church, Clarks Hill, and a member and deacon of Bethany Baptist Church, Jamaica, N.Y.
Survivors include three daughters, Rosemary Middleton, Christian Middleton and Melody Middleton, Jamaica, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary M. Talbert, Edgefield, and Gladys M. Talbert, Suitland, Md.; three brothers, the Rev. Sam (Jessie) Middleton and Alonzo (Rosa) Middleton, North Augusta, and Clarence (Sweetola) Middleton, Jamaica, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lola Cornwell Gregory, 78
FORT MILL - Mrs. Lola Cornwell Gregory, 78, of 108 Gilmore St., formerly of Chester, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Arrangements will be announced later by King's Funeral Home, 135 cemetery St., Chester.
Mr. James 'Big Dude' Mobley, 62
RICHBURG - The funeral for Mr. James Robert "Big Dude" Mobley of 3654 Stevenson Road will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at St. Phillips Baptist Church. The Rev. John J. Rawlinson will officiate, Pastor Rosalind Wilson will deliver the eulogy and the Rev. Moses Lightner and Bishop Samuel Wylie will assist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mobley, 62, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Rock Hill Health Care.
born in Chester County on Nov. 30, 1941, he was a son of the late Richard Mobley and Beulah Anderson Mobley. A member of St. Phillips Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and past Sunday school teacher, Mr. Mobley was a former employee of South Carolina Hundros Construction of Charlotte. He attended school in Chester County.
Survivors include his caregiver, Eliza Ann Colvin of the home; two aunts, Lula Bell Mobley of Chester and Margaret Mobley of Charlotte; a sister-in-law, the Rev. Annie Lois Mobley of Charlotte; three nieces; and four nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, the Rev. Richard Mobley and Johnny Mobley.
The family will receive friends at the home, 3654 Stevenson Road.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at King's Funeral Home, 135 cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday.

Thomas Edward Denby
Mr. Thomas Edward Denby, 80, of Johnny Parrish Road in Batesburg, husband of Dorothy Harmon Denby, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at Lexington Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer cemetery in Trenton.
Mr. Denby was born in Edgefield and was a member of Clydes Chapel Southern Methodist Church. He was retired from Union Switch and Signal and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Additional survivors include four daughters, Brenda Caddell, Jeannee Buzhardt, Paulette Bledsoe, De Alva Williams; two sons, Phillip D. Enlow, Timothy Enlow; two sisters, Mary Doolittle, Sarah Covar; a brother, James Denby; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Virgie Wright Hemphill, 79
CHESTER - The funeral for Mrs. Virgie Wright Hemphill, 79, of 547 Columbia Road will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 15 at Brooklyn A.M.E. Zion Church. The Rev. Willie H. Evans will officiate and the Rev. Sandra Sistare will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Old Zion A.M.E. Zion cemetery.
Mrs. Hemphill, 79, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
born in Chester County on June 25, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Jessie Wright and Ada Whitlock Wright. A member of Brooklyn A.M.E. Zion Church, where she served as as deaconess, a missionary, a choir member and a former member of the Trustee Board, Mrs. Hemphill was also a former member of Old Zion A.M.E. Zion Church. She was employed with the Chester County School District for 30 years and attended school in Chester County.
Survivors include two sons, James Whitt Hemphill of the home and Eddie D. Hemphill and his wife, Helen, of Chester; two sisters, Lucille W. Cunningham and Annie P. Wright, both of Chester; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eddie Lee Hemphill; two sisters, Jessie M. Wright Graham and Sadie Wright Macon; and a brother, Alexander Wright.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie D. Hemphill at 116 Henry Woods Drive, Chester.
The body may be viewed from 9 to 11 a.m. today, Friday, at King's Funeral Home, 135 cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church at noon today.

Pete Gorman
Mr. Pete Gorman, 64, husband of Betty Gorman, of North Augusta, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008 at University Hospital.
The Mass of Christian Burial and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Monday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Cherian Thalakulam, celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.
Additional survivors include a son, Tommy Gorman; two daughters, Rose Rita Sherlock and Susan Teresa Gorman; two brothers, Tommy Gorman and Jimmy Gorman; seven sisters, Genie Riley, Winnie Gorman, Theresa Carroll, JoAnne Gorman, Rose McNally, Mary Carroll and Bridget Gorman.

Mrs. Joyce Ferrell Datson, 47
KERNERSVILLE, N.C. - The funeral for Mrs. Joyce Ferrell Datson of Loradale Drive will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home with the Rev. Cindy Parker officiating.
Mrs. Datson, 47, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Forsyth Medical Center.
born in Chester County on Nov. 12, 1956, she was a daughter of the late Zebbie Frazier and Edith Culp Ferrell. A 1975 graduate of Chester High School, Mrs. Datson also graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College in 2001. She was employed by Burger King as an assistant manager at the Union Cross location.
Survivors include her husband, Roger B. Datson of the home; two daughters, Angela Boothe of Chester and April Gaither and her husband, Robert, of Clemmons; a step-daughter, Amanda Blair Datson of Welch, W.V.; a step-son, John Roger Datson of Kernersville; two brothers, Ronnie Ferrell of Chester and Jerry Ferrell of Rock Hill; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday Oct. 16 at the funeral home, 141 Smith Edwards Road, Kernersville, N.C.

CHESTER - Graveside services for Miss Lillian "Sister" Boyter of 116 Academy St. will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 15 in Hollywood cemetery in Gastonia, N.C. with the Rev. Mel Arant officiating.
Miss Boyter, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.
born in Laurens, S.C. on Aug. 13, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Wise Marion Boyter and Mallie Ann Myers Boyter. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a niece, Helen Gantt of Chester; a great-niece, Susan Kovas of Chester; and two great-great-nephews, Joseph and Grant Kovas.

Mrs. Daisy B. Funderburk, 81
The funeral for Mrs. Daisy B. Funderburk was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Union Baptist Church in Buford. The Rev. Sam Kennington officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Funderburk, 81, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster. She was born Sept. 21, 1928.
Survivors include a son, Melvin Kennington of Great Falls; three sisters, Ethel Yarborough of Fort Lawn, Mary Miller of Charlotte and Pat Blackmon of Lancaster; and two brothers, Bruce Gardner of Pageland and David Gardner of Columbia.
Travis Beck Woodham
Mr. Travis Beck Woodham, 47, of North Augusta, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008.
He was the husband of Katherine Buman "Kathy" Woodham for 14 years and the son of Edna Garner of Florence and the late Johnny Woodham.
At his request, Mr. Woodham was cremated and a Celebration of Life Service was held Thursday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Langley.
Mr. Woodham was born in Hartsville and had been a resident of North Augusta since 1998. For the past 13 months, he had been an electrician with J.&R. Electric. He was a member of True North Church and enjoyed woodwork and art.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by children, Linda Woodham, Trenton, and Michael Woodham, Greenville; stepchildren, Sessalee Moores, North Augusta, Brittany Wheelis, North Augusta, Summer Worden, Leesville, Mikki Finizza, Brooksville, Fla. and Frank Brown, Florence; and 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Young Tarlton, 96
GREAT FALLS - Graveside services for Mrs. Mary Young Tarlton, formerly of Sunset Ave., will be conducted at noon today, Wednesday, Aug. 25 in Greenlawn cemetery with the Rev. John Paul Sellars officiating.
Mrs. Tarlton, 96, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Lancaster Convalescent Center in Lancaster.
born in Chester County on Oct. 30, 1907, she was a daughter of the late John Young and Mary Elizabeth Curry Young. A member of Mount Dearborn Methodist Church of Great Falls, Mrs. Tarlton attended Chester County schools and was the owner and operator of Great Falls Sandwich Shop.
Survivors include a son, Otha H. "Buddy" Tarlton Jr. of Great Falls; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Otha H. Tarlton Sr.; and a daughter, Mabel Wayburn.
The family will receive friends from 11 to 11:45 a.m. today at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls.

Mr. Olin Julius 'Sonny' Gibson, 67
CHESTER - The funeral for Mr. Olin Julius "Sonny" Gibson of 547 Skyline Drive will be conducted at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 25 at Barron Funeral Home. The Rev. Dale Roddey will officiate and burial will follow in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Gibson, 67, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at his residence.
born in Great Falls on Feb. 10, 1937, he was a son of the late William Henry Gibson and Daisy Scott Gibson. A retired employee of Springs Industries, Mr. Gibson attended school in Great Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Miller Gibson; a daughter, Karen Reid and her husband, Ronnie, of Chester; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; four brothers, Pressley Gibson of Chester, James Gibson of Rock Hill, Curtis Hinson of Catawba and Bill Hinson of Great Falls; and two sisters, Panny Horton of Great Falls and Peggy Morrison of Chester.
