PITTSBURGH - The funeral for Mr. Fred D. Giles, formerly of Chester, was conducted Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Samuel J. Jones Funeral Home in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Giles, 51, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004.
At an early age, Mr. Giles joined Macedonia Baptist Church and was employed with U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh.
Survivors include his father, Fred G. Giles; a sister, Besheria Dunlap; a local aunt, McCree Foote of Chester; and a local uncle, Freeman Smith of Chester.

Mr. Simon Jackson Jr., 57
CHESTER - The funeral for Mr. Simon Jackson Jr. of 110 Martin Luther King Drive will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 3 from the chapel of King's Funeral Home. Pastor Tommy Sanders will officiate and burial will follow in Black Rock Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Jackson, 57, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
born in Mecklenburg County on April 25, 1947, he was a son of the late Simon Jackson Sr. and Annie Mae Boyd Jackson. A member of Black Rock Baptist Church, Mr. Jackson attended The Holy Place Church in Chester. He attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County and also Finley High School. Mr. Jackson was also a former employee of Springs Industries.
Survivors include two sons, Bavuier Jackson and his wife, Carmen, of Pacolet and Rodney Jackson and his wife, Arlene, of Seattle, Wash.; a daughter, Simone Yvette Eison of Jonesville; two brothers, Johnny B. Jackson and his wife, Gloria, and Terry Jackson, both of Chester; a sister, Cora Douglas and her husband, Melvin, of Chester; and eight grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Cora and Melvin Douglas, 128 Lowery St., Chester.
Viewing will be today from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at King's Funeral Home, 135 cemetery St., Chester.

Miss Patti Elizabeth Lanier, 52
STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Memorial services for Miss Patti Elizabeth Lanier of 1002 4th Creek Landing Drive, formerly of Great Falls, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at Bethesda United Methodist Church in Great Falls. The Rev. Kathy Bostrom will officiate and burial will be private.
Miss Lanier, 52, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in Statesville.
born in Gastonia, N.C. on March 6, 1952, she was a daughter of Robert S. Lanier and Edith Funderburk Lanier. A graduate of Great Falls High School, Miss Lanier attended USC Lancaster and graduated from Appalachian State College. A Baptist, she was employed as a school teacher at Third Creek Elementary School in Statesville.
Survivors include her parents, Robert and Edith Lanier of Great Falls; and a sister, Susan L. Jones of Chesapeake, Va.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Dennis Lanier.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the social hall of the church and at other times at the home of her parents, 3190 Havenwood Drive, Blackstock.

BRONX, N.Y. - Mr. Chester "Giles" Macon of Bronx, N.Y., formerly of Chester, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Bronyx Lebnon Hospital in Bronx.

Mrs. Cynthia S. 'Pig' Mayfield, 72
CARLISLE - The funeral for Mrs. Cynthia S. "Pig" Mayfield of 5333 Woods Ferry Road will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 3 at Red Hill Baptist Church in Leeds. The Rev. Randolph Glover will officiate and be assisted by the Rev. James Good and the Rev. Ronald McCluney. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mayfield, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Chester Regional Medical Center.
born in Chester County on June 23, 1932, she was a daughter of the late George Smith and Novie Jane Dawkins Smith. A member of Fairview Baptist Church, after marriage Mrs. Mayfield joined Red Hill Baptist Church and served there as a deaconess, a member of the Pulpit Aid, a former secretary of the Senior Choir, an usher and a choir member. She attended the public schools of Chester County and was employed with Chester County Hospital. Mrs. Mayfield retired from Oakmont Nursing Center in Union as a certified nurse's assistant and was a member of the C.B.&A.; Society.
Survivors include four sons, Eugene Mayfield Jr. of Alliquippa, Penn., Alexander Mayfield and his wife, Vernessa, of Chester, George Andrew Mayfield and his wife, Miranda, of Carlisle and Eddie Dean Mayfield of Newport News, Va.; three daughters, Remattie Brown of Spartanburg, Mary J. Mayfield of the home and Robin Johnson and her husband, Peter, of Newport News, Va.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene Mayfield Sr.; three brothers; four sisters; and a son-in-law, George Brown.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 5333 Woods Ferry Road, Carlisle.
The body may be viewed from 9 a.m. until noon today, Friday, at King's Funeral Home, 135 cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Mr. Clyde McCullough, 54
ROCK HILL - Mr. Clyde McCullough, 54, of 113 Apt. B Hillcrest Drive died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Clara Gilmore, at 949 Albert St., Rock Hill.

Julia Elizabeth Caldwell Forrest
Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Caldwell Forrest, 89, of Saluda, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at Deans Chapel Pentecostal Church, Hollywood School Road, Saluda. Burial was at Bethany United Methodist Church, Bethany Church Road, Saluda.
Mrs. Forrest was an avid gardener, a floral designer and a lifelong member of Deans Chapel Church .She worked for many years with Saluda Shirt Company and retired after 27 years from the Flower and Gift in Saluda.
Survivors include her four children, Patsy Matthews (Terry), North Augusta, Terry Forrest (Miriam), Apple Valley, Minn., Von Forrest, Saluda, and Gebie Forrest, Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Denise Johnson (Monte), Dana Cook (Greg), Brian Forrest (Amanda), and Brandon Matthews (Sandra); great-grandchildren, Clayton and Beth Ellen Johnson and Sarah Phoebe and John Clark Cook; siblings, Hubert Caldwell and Willard Bickley, Newberry, Ozie Krell, Prosperity, Sudie Berry and Ted Caldwell (Gloria), Saluda, Heyward (Mae), Boise, Idaho, and Joyce Harling, Edgefield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobson and Phoebe Perry Caldwell; her husband of over 58 years, George W. Forrest; two daughters, Kay Forrest Palmer and Sandra Dale Forrest; and a great-grandson, Forrest Johnson.

Mr. Charlie Mack Thompson, 68
CARLISLE - The funeral for Mr. Charlie Mack Thompson of 8077 Ashford Ferry Road will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11 at Upper Hope Station Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. George Lowry, pastor, will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Thompson, 68, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Piedmont Medical Center.
born in Fairfield County, he was a son of the late Walter Thompson Sr. and Lillie Coleman Thompson. A former employee of Springs Industries, Zenith Engraving and a logging company, Mr. Thompson was a member of Upper Hope Station Missionary Baptist Church and attended Fairfield County schools.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy Mae Thompson; two sons, Willie "Tee" Thompson and his wife, Shirley, and Charlie J. Thompson and his wife, Lawanna, all of Carlisle; four daughters, Fannie Suber and her husband, Troy, of Pomaria, S.C., Marguerite Glasgow and her husband, Stefan, of Newberry, Sherri Thompson of Carlisle and Beverly Thompson of Chester; three brothers, Walter Thompson and his wife, Mary, of Chester, Steve Thompson and his wife, Lucy, of Carlisle and James L. Thompson and his wife, Lillie, of Blythewood, S.C.; a sister, Fannie Jackson of Baltimore; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers.

EDGEMOOR - The funeral for Mr. Clatus Eugene Hefner of 1468 Ramsey Road will be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 10 at Lando Church of God. The Rev. Edward Harris and the Rev. Rick Wheeler will officiate and burial will follow in Lando cemetery.
Mr. Hefner, 91, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at his residence.
born in Lando on June 15, 1913, he was a son of the late Curtis Hefner and Jerusha Laney Hefner. A member of Lando Church of God, Mr. Hefner attended school in Lando and was retired from Manetta Mills in Lando.
Survivors include three sons, Orson P. Hefner of Lancaster, Charlton G. "Buster" Hefner of Union and Carlton D. "Pete" Hefner of Blackstock; two daughters, Winifred Bennett of Richburg and Vanessa Watts of Chester; two brothers, Rayford Hefner of Edgemoor and Richard Hefner of Irmo; four sisters, Dorothy Evans and Temmer Ramsey, both of Edgemoor, Pauline Small of Great Falls and Edra Emser of Rockwell, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Venia Gilreath Hefner; and a son, Shelton Hefner.

RICHBURG - The funeral for Mrs. Allea Simpson Caldwell of Gaston Caldwell Road will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at Loving Charity Baptist Church. The Rev. Elvis Coleman will officiate and the Rev. W.J. Baxter will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Caldwell, 76, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.
born in Chester County on May 20, 1928, she was a daughter of the late James Wylie and Eliza Scott Simpson. A member of Loving Charity Baptist Church, where she belonged to the gospel choir and the Missionary Circle, Mrs. Caldwell was a former member of Mt. Nebo A.M.E. Zion Church. She attended the public schools of Chester County and was a retired domestic worker.
Survivors include three daughters, Eliza C. Colvin, Margie Williams and her husband, Bobby, and Mary C. Stallworth, all of Richburg; a son, Isaac Caldwell Jr. of Richburg; two brothers, Ernest Simpson of Richburg and Levester Simpson and his wife, Willie Bell, of Great Falls; a devoted granddaughter, Felisha Stallworth of Richburg; seven other grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her caretaker, Edna McClinton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Isaac Caldwell Sr.; two brothers, Melvin Simpson and Oneal Simpson; and a sister, Ivory Marie Price.
The family will receive friends at the residence on Gaston Caldwell Road in Richburg.
Viewing will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at King's Funeral Home, 135 cemetery St., Chester. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Saturday.

COLUMBIA - Mr. Johnny Robert Feaster, 63, formerly of Chester, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia.

Mrs. Jane Owings Belk, 65
GREAT FALLS - The funeral for Mrs. Jane Owings Belk of 15801 State Hwy. 200 will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5 at Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Paul Sellars and the Rev. Mike Sollers will officiate and burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery.
Mrs. Belk, 65, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at her home.
born in Great Falls on June 23, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Roy Bailey Owings and Passie Fenton Ivester Owings. A member of Mt. Dearborn United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church, Mrs. Belk graduated from Great Falls High School and received a degree in social services from Midland Center. She was employed as an LPN at Midland Center in Columbia and held devotional services at nursing homes.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. C.O. Belk Jr.; a son, Charles O. Belk III of Great Falls; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Sherrie Belk Broome.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls.

Mr. McAllister, 81, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia.
born in Providence, N.C. on June 4, 1923, he was a son of the late Joseph McAllister and Mary Morrow McAllister. A member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God, Mr. McAllister attended school in Mecklenburg County and was retired from J.P. Stevens Company. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Morris and her husband, Eddie, of Great Falls; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, the Rev. Jettie Helms of Charlotte.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy McElveen McAllister.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls.
