Mr. James Wyman ‘Rock' Gladden, 69
LEXINGTON - A memorial service for Mr. James Wyman “Rock” Gladden will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Friday, June 15, at Lexington United Methodist Church. A private burial service will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park cemetery.
Mr. Gladden, 69, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007.
born in Great Falls on June 19, 1938, he was a son of the late James Alexander and Jessie Margaret Gladden. A graduate of the University of S.C., Mr. Gladden earned his master's degree from Appalachian State University. Prior to becoming principal of Lexington High School in 1969, Mr. Gladden worked as a teacher and coach in Great Falls. He later worked in banking and as a real estate appraiser. After returning to education administration with Lexington School District One, Mr. Gladden retired in 2001 as the transportation coordinator for the district. An active member of Lexington United Methodist Church, Mr. Gladden served as treasurer of the Lexington County Gamecock Club. He also served on the town's Building Codes Board of Adjustment for more than 20 years and belonged to the Lexington Cotillion. A former member of the Lexington Lions Club, Mr. Gladden enjoyed golfing at the Country Club of Lexington, where he had been a member for more than 35 years.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Linda Moore Gladden; two daughters, Meg Eliatamby and her husband, Deepal, of Columbia and Karen Samples and her husband, Steve, of Newnan, Ga.; a granddaughter, Kaylin Dorothy Samples; two sisters, Peggy Williford and her husband, Bill, and Carol Stall and her husband, Bobby, all of Summerville; one uncle; and seven nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service.

CHARLOTTE - Rosita Louise Thompson, age 83, left us to be with the Lord on Dec. 31, 2012, at a Charlotte nursing facility where she was surrounded by her loving family.
She was formerly of Chester and was the daughter of the late Gordon W. and Bertie McFalls Thompson. She was retired from retail sales and she was a Presbyterian. She loved visiting the mountains and long walks.
