W. Albert Oliver
Mr. W. Albert Oliver, 75, of Park Avenue in Johnston, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. at Eastview cemetery in Edgefield.
Mr. Oliver was a native of Edgefield County and was a member of Edgefield Church of God. He was a retired insurance salesman and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Angie Hood, Johnston; two sisters, Dorothy McGee and Mildred Timmerman, both of Edgefield; four grandchildren, Zach Rearden, Carley Rearden, Jessica Hood and Will Hood.

James Patten
Mr. James Patten, 82, of Glover Street in Edgefield, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at Freedom Temple United Church of God, with Evangelist Mattie Cheatham officiating. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mr. Patten, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Freedom Temple United Church of God where he served as chairman of the deacon’s ministry and choir ministry.
Survivors include his wife Mary Lucy Patten; a son, Jerome Patten; five daughters, Mary L. Carr, Mattie P. (Thomas) Cheatham, Sharon P. (Victor) Washington, Vanessa L. Patten and Priscilla Patten; three brothers, George D. (Willie Mae) Patten, David (Betty) Patten and John Richard (Venoris) Patten; four sisters, Dorothy (Clarence) Rearden, Roberta P. Price, Pearl P. (Phillip) Jackson and Mazelle P. (George) Smith; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Mrs. Lavonia Few Ashley Frost, 80
GREAT FALLS - Mrs. Lavonia Few Ashley Frost died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Agape Senior in Rock Hill.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Batchelor and Rev. John Ladd officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, at First Baptist Church, 606 Dearborn St., Great Falls.
Mr. Elmer Gilbert, 94
LANCASTER - The funeral for Mr. Elmer Gilbert was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Barron Funeral Home with the Rev. Les Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Chester Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Gilbert, 94, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at White Oak Manor in Lancaster. He was born Dec. 22, 1917.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Ann Lawson of Martinsville, Va. and Linda D. Dawkins of Blackstock.

Mr. Emerson Hicklin, 65
ATLANTA – Mr. Emerson Hicklin, 65, formerly of Chester, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012. The service was held Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, in Atlanta.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran.
Survivors are his wife, Joy Hicklin; three sisters, Pastor Annie McFadden, Deloris Thomas and Myrna Timmons, all of Chester; an aunt, Nettie Emerson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

CHESTER - A memorial service for Mr. Robert Jaimson Hilliard was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Barron Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Byrd officiating. Burial was private.
Mr. Hilliard, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at his home. He was born Sept. 7, 1936.
Survivors include three sons, Mark Hilliard of Chester and Patrick Hilliard and Michael Hilliard, both of Pennsylvania; and four daughters, Kelly Jo Hilliard Switzer, Tammy Lynn, Sue Overly and Melody Wise, all of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Gladys Lindler Roden, 96
CHESTER - Beloved mother and grandmother Gladys Lindler Roden, 96, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Roden was born on Aug. 29, 1916, and resided in Chester. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bill Roden, and a son, Jerry L. Wolf.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy D. Roof and Ella Mae Murry, both of Chester; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. James William 'J.W.' Weldon, 68
CHESTER – Mr. James William "J.W." Weldon, 68, of 903 Center Road passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2012.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Christian Home Baptist Church in Lowrys with the Rev. J.F. Williams officiating and the Rev. C.J. Stringfellow delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

CHESTER – The funeral for Mr. Lonnie William Roberts Jr. was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at Barron Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Shaffer officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Roberts, 63, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at his home. He was born Sept. 28, 1951, and was a son of the late Lonnie William Roberts Sr. and Mazie Elizabeth Thompson Roberts.
Mrs. Frances Cloud Crawford, 67
FORT LAWN – Mrs. Frances Cloud Crawford, 67, of 5415 Baxter Drive died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at her home.

Curtis Ashley Abel
The funeral service for Ashley Abel, 77, 6 Dogwood Lane in Johnston, was held Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at Johnston United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Private burial followed in Mt. of Olives cemetery. A reception was held from 4:30 -6:30 p.m. following the service at Pine Ridge Country Club.
Mr. Abel, widower of Kay Newman Abel, died Jan. 19, 2011. He was the son of the late Ash and Marie Abel. A resident of Johnston since 1959, he was a licensed land surveyor and registered forester who loved the land and people of Edgefield County and surrounding counties. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1955. He was a member of the S.C. National Guard from 1956-1979. A founding member of Edgefield County Republican Party, he was a past president and member of the Johnston Jaycees. A member of Pine Ridge Country Club and Johnston Sertoma Club, he also served as chairman of the Edgefield County School Board. He was a member of Johnston United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ashley and Kimberly Abel of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, April and Scott Long of Myrtle Beach; and five grandchildren, Ash and Marjorie Abel and Grace-McLane, Miller, and Grainger Long.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gretchen Glacken of Staten Island, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.

Sandra Kay Rushton Barron
Mrs. Sandra Kay Rushton Barron, 59, of W.A. Reel Drive in Edgefield, died Monday Jan. 17, 2011 at the Medical College of Georgia.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 21, at 3 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.
Mrs. Barron was a native of Aiken, and was of the Baptist faith. She was a former production line supervisor at Murray Biscuit Company.
Survivors include a son, Brian (Ashleigh) Frazier, Augusta; a daughter. Pam Cockrell, Edgefield; three brothers, Randy Rushton, Terry Rushton and Larry Crocker; a sister, Diane (David) Hudson; five grandchildren, Stephen Clark, Ashley Clark, Keith Cockrell, Jesse Sligh, Hayden Frazier; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Barron was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Mixon.

Funeral services for Kristen Lee Dutton, 9, of Hood Drive in McCormick, who died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 3 p.m. at Posey Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Michael Brendel officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah Abercrombie, Mike Porter, Kyle Lanham and Eric Cumbee.
Kristen was a native of Edgefield, having made McCormick her home for the past five years. She was a fourth grade student at Merriwether Elementary School. Kristen was a loving daughter who enjoyed swimming, animals, especially horses, and playing with her friends.
Survivors include her mother, Leah A. Abercrombie, McCormick; her father, Jonathan Derek Dutton, North Augusta; a brother, Blake Abercrombie, McCormick; maternal grandparents, Janice D. Abercrombie, North Augusta, and Mickey D. Abercrombie, Modoc; paternal grandparents, Kathy and Johnny Hydrick, Trenton; two aunts, Sarah Abercrombie, North Augusta, and Rachel Abercrombie, Columbia; two uncles, Jeremiah Abercrombie, North Augusta, and David Dutton, Augusta, Ga.

Mary Alice Christie Padgett
Ms. Mary Alice Christie Padgett, 81, of Edgefield, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Ms. Padgett was a native of Edgefield and a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. She was the former owner of the Peach Bowl Restaurant and a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Rickey D. Padgett, Lexington, and Chris Padgett, Pendleton; a daughter, Angie Padgett, Aiken; a brother, Simmie Christie, Aiken; and two grandchildren.
