INMAN Hattie Garner Fant, 95, widow of Bernard Fant, formerly of Union, died Wednesday at Magnolia Manor of Inman after an extended illness. A native of Union County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Eliza Bailey Garner. Mrs. Fant was a member of Duncan Acres United Methodist Church of Union and a homemaker.
Survivors include two sisters, Ruby Owings and Eva Owings, both of Union; three grandchildren, one great grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Robert B. Fant. Graveside services will be held 11 a m. Saturday at Union Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev. David Allen. The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately after the service. The family is at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, c/o Monte Lancaster, Arthur State Bank, Union, S.C. 29379. Seawright Funeral Home of Inman has charge of arrangements.
Roger W. McGee
Roger Wayne McGee, 60, husband of Polly McAbee McGee of 120 Hillcrest Drive, died March 12, 2003, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Mr. McGee was born in Johnston on Feb. 3, 1943, a son of Mrs. Saran Scott McGee of Orangeburg and the late Duane R. McGee. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carlisle where he had served as deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. McGee was a long-time member of the Gamecock Club, a member of the Gideons, and a former member of the Union Academy board of directors. He was a graduate of St. Matthews High School and attended the University of South Carolina-Columbia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. McGee was retired from Cone Mill, Carlisle Finishing Plant and more recently employed with Enmark and the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Daniel Young of Ft. Madison, Iowa; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert (Robbie) McGee of Greenville and his fiancee, Amy Seigler of Union; Paul and Jamie McGee of Columbia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, LaDonna and Lewis White of Chesterfield and Betty Childs of Orangeburg; four grandchildren, Cathryn Young and Ryan Young of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Andrew McGee and Saran McGee of Newberry and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Brad Goodale and Rev. Richard Gunter. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Active pallbearers are: Brian Greer, Wade Besherse, Gary Harris, Rick McCloud, Keith Vanderford and Mike Walker. The following are asked to assemble at the funeral chapel at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort: Employees of the maintenance shop of Carlisle Finishing, Malcolm Crider, Waring DeMars, Richard Lewis, Richard Felder and Jack Seigler.
The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9. The family is at the home, 120 Hillcrest Drive. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 2965 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 110 D, Hospital Drive, Simpsonville, S.C. 29681. James Edward Peake
CARLISLE James Edward Peake, 72, of 128 Family Circle, died March 11, 2003,in Tucker Nursing Care Center in Columbia after an extended illness. A native of Union County, he was a son of the late Ralph and Sallie Booker Peake. He attended Union County schools and was retired from Daniel Construction Co.
Surviving are two brothers, Jimmy Lou (Virginia) Peake of Carlisle and Robert Lee (Christine) Peake of Detroit, Mich.; six sisters, Eva Mae (Earl) Kelly, Aleen Dawkins, Elizabeth (Wadious) Johnson and Margaret Peake, all of Carlisle; Cora Mae Harrison and Elmira Lee Smith, both of Boston, Mass.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Whitney Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Bruce Dawkins and the Rev. Thomas Worthy. Burial will be in Hills Cemetery in Carlisle. Nephews will be pallbearers. Visitation will be this evening at the home, 128 Family Circle. Whitney Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Ronnie K. Brown
Ronnie Kent Brown, 53, husband of Pam Black Brown of 131 Brown Road, Buffalo, died at his home Friday, March 14, 2003, at 9:37 a. m. Mr. Brown was born in Union on June 26, 1949, a son of Lois Moore Brown of Union and the late Lewis T. Brown Sr. He was a Baptist. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Union High School and was formerly employed with CPE, Inc. and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U. S. Army.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a daughter, Tiffany B. Lancaster of Union; a son, Jamie L. Brown of the home; two sisters, Judy Wood and JoAnn Price, both of Union; three brothers, Wayne Brown of Union, Marion Brown of Gaffney and Lewis T. Brown Jr. of Mesa, Arizona; and 20 nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the S. R. Holcombe Funeral Chapel.

Grover J. Alverson
Grover James Alverson, 91, formerly of 317 W. South St., died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Wallace Thomson Hospital after a period of declining health. Mr. Alverson was born in Union on Dec. 5, 1911, a son of the late W.C. and Tinie Morris Alverson. He was a retired farmer and former owner and operator of Alverson Store in Carlisle for 35 years.
Mr. Alverson was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Alverson was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence J. Alverson. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Upon the wishes of Mr. Alverson, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Margaret B. Fuller
Margaret Bell Fuller, 76, widow of Odis B. Fuller of 1794 Whitmire Highway, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Lexington Medical Center after a period of declining health. Mrs. Fuller was born in Spartanburg on May 25, 1926, a daughter of the late Leber and Bessie Johns Bell. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Odis E. and Charlotte Fuller of Lexington; a bother, Paul Bell of Union; three grandchildren, Kelly Fuller, Lauren Fuller and John Paul Fuller, all of Lexington, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fuller was predeceased by two daughters, Elaine Fuller and June Fuller Howard. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Tabernacle Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Barry Ellis. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Tommy Bell, Wayne Bell, Dale Latham, Terry Young and Robert Holmes. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 and will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service.
Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1100 Hospital Dr., Simpsonville, S.C., 29681. The family is at the home of her brother, Paul Bell, 655 Sardis Road. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Marion P. Ivey
Marion Porter Ivey, 86, widow of Willis Ivey, of 2314 Lockhart Highway, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after a long illness. Mrs. Ivey was born in Union on Oct. 23, 1916, a daughter of the late William Larkin Porter Sr., and Lula Colman Porter. She was retired from Milliken & Co., Monarch Plant and was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca I. and William B. Gonce of Union; a sister, Lucille Moss of Union, a brother, William L. Porter Jr. of Memphis, Tenn.; five grandchildren, William Kenneth Ivey Jr., Robert Heath Ivey, Kacy Holland, Jonathan David Gonce and Melody Tollison; and three great-grandsons, Dustin Ivey, David Ivey and Hunter Ivey.
Mrs. Ivey was predeceased by a son, William Kenneth Ivey Sr. Funeral services will were held this afternoon at 3 at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church by Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Reuben Wallace. Burial was in Union Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Kenny Ivey, David Gonce, Keith Ivey, Cale Tollison, Mark Holland and Jimmy Lawson.
The family received friends at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home Sunday night. Memorials may be made to Mon-Aetna Baptist Church, 1431 Lockhart Highway, Union, S.C. 29379. The family is at the home, 2314 Lockhart Highway. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Wilma B. Lawson
Wilma Brockman Lawson, 45, of 924 N. Church St., wife of the late Charles Lawson, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in Wallace Thomson Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Lawson was born in Union County on June 30, 1957, a daughter of Wilma Talley Brockman and the late Alexander Brockman. She was a former nurse and served in the U.S. Army National Guard. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Circle #3 Missionary, and a member of the YWA.
Surviving in addition to her mother are a son, Gerard Aiken of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Scotti Lawson of Union; a cousin reared in the home, Brenda Lee of Patterson, N.J.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. James A. Calhoun officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Paul Society Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday to await the hour of service. Viewing and visitation will be until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until noon Tuesday at the Carolina Mortuary The family is at the home of her mother, Wilma T. Brockman, 924 N. Church St. The Carolina Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.
Margaret H. Pellegrino
SPARTANBURG Margaret Anna Huners Pellegrino, 85, formerly of Skylyn Place, Spartanburg, died March 15 in a local nursing home. She was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Frederick G. and Sarah Underhill Huners. She moved to Spartanburg in 1976 and had worked for several years for the Catawba Regional Council on Aging. She was a member of the Evangel Cathedral and was a Home Group Member. She was also a former resident of Union.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Pellegrino, on Jan. 6, 1971. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Pellegrino Coles of Spartanburg; a son, Frank M. Pellegrino and wife, Delia Walters Pellegrino; five grandchildren, Robin Coles Gill and husband, Dale Gill of Spartanburg; Kelli-Ann Pellegrino Winchell and husband, Jeff Winchell of Charleston; Frank M. Pellegrino III and wife, Sherry Love Pellegrino of Moore; Adam S. Pellegrino and wife, Lisa Stone Pellegrino of Spartanburg and Joseph H. Pellegrino and wife, Rachel Miles Pellegrino of Spartanburg; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Evangel Cathedral conducted by the Rev. Jan King. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A Family Committal service will be held in the East Hills Cemetery in Glen Head, N.Y.
Those who wish may make memorials to the Building Fund of Evangel Cathedral, 200 Evangel Road, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301 or to the Alzheimer's Association of Spartanburg, 555 John B. White Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C. 29301. The family is at the home of Ruth Pellegrino Coles, 438 Mills Ave. Landford-Pollard Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Clyde G. Scott Sr.
Clyde Grady Scott, Sr., 69, husband of Kay O'Shields Scott of 2727 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, died at his home Monday, March 17, 2003. Mr. Scott was born in Union on Aug. 19, 1933, a son of Bessie Crawford Scott Head of Union and the late Willie K. Scott. He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. Mr. Scott was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a retired self-employed heavy equipment contractor.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a son, Clyde Grady Scott Jr. of Buffalo, a step-son, Wayne Varner of Buffalo; two sisters, Lillian Bernard and Carol Henderson, both of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Billy Scott and Fred Scott, both of Union; two granddaughters, Angie Varner and Biley Scott; two grandsons, Bradley Scott and Aron Varner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Wednesday at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Randy Pettit and Carla Dillard. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Doug Leonhardt, Mike Scott, Billy Wayne Scott, Kin Headley, James Sanford and Eddie Kelly. Members of the Coffee Club at Midway Barbecue are asked to assemble at the church Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. to form the honorary escort.
The body will remain at the funeral home and will be placed in church at 2 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service. The family is at the home, 2727 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, and will receive friends at the church Wednesday immediately after services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund, 2153 Mt. Lebanon Road, Buffalo, S.C. 29321. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
William Earl Sanders
William Earl Sanders, 66, of 473 Hickory Grove Road, Gaffney, husband of Frances (Jean) Pridemore Sanders, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. in Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care after an extended illness. The family is at the home. Funeral arrangements announced later by the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home of Union.
