GREAT FALLS – Mrs. Mary Frances Baker Lathan, 66, died Thursday, June 11, 2015, at her home. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Bethesda United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Phillips and Rev. Marty Roberts officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Betty Jean R. McGinnis, 75
CHESTER – The funeral service for Mrs. Betty Jean Roof McGinnis of Greenbrier, Tenn., formerly of Chester, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Barron's Funeral Home with Biker Chaplain Ray “Doc” Elders officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. McGinnis, 75, died Saturday, June 13, 2015 at her home in Greenbrier, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late William and Ada Roof.
Arthur "Med" Medicus Dantzler

ROCK HILL: Mr. Arthur Medicus "Med" Dantzler died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Piedmont Medical Center. He was 88.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Oakland Baptist Church, Rock Hill with the Rev. Dr. Robert Shrum and Mr. Robert Belk officiating. Interment will follow at Forrest Hills cemetery in Rock Hill.
Mr. Dantzler was born September 12, 1920 in Eutawville, SC, a son of the late Elvin H. and Mellisa Eva Shingler Dantzler. He was a graduate of Orangeburg County schools and was formerly co-owner of the Piggly Wiggly grocery in Great Falls, SC. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Dantzler served during WWII under General Omar Bradley and General George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy, Bastogne, and St. Lo. He was a recipient of the American Theatre Campaign medal with four bronze service stars. Formerly a member of Great Falls City Council, Mr. Dantzler served as Mayor Protem in the 1970s. He was a life member and Past Master of Great Falls Masonic Lodge #277 and also served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 23rd Masonic District.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Andreone Dantzler; son, Glenn Dantzler of Richburg; daughter, Beverly Osborne and her husband Stanley of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Mellisa Belk, Elizabeth Long, and John Dantzler; four great grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Bowen of Charleston, SC.

Mrs. Carol Elizabeth Hendricks Patterson, 68, died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Providence Hospital in Columbia.
The funeral will be 2:00 PM Tuesday at Lake Wateree Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Gregory and Rev. John O’Cain officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
born December 16, 1940 in Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Patterson was the daughter of the late Russell Ward Hendricks and Ernestine Cranfill Hendricks. A graduate of Beaufort High School she was retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of SC as a claims specialist. She enjoyed the outdoors. She was a good wife, mother and friend and will be missed for her smile and humor. She never met a stranger. She was a member of Lake Wateree Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband Edward O. Patterson; one daughter, Michelle Johnson of Franklin, IN; one son, Rev. Clayton E. Cordell of Lancaster, SC; two grandchildren, Cody & Shelby Johnson of Franklin, IN; three step-sons; David Patterson of W. Columbia, SC, Steve Patterson of Columbia, SC and Van Patterson of Pelion, SC; one step-daughter, Lisa Reed of West Columbia; one sister, Dorothy Ballard and one brother, James Hendricks both of Columbia, SC.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 P.M. Tuesday at Lake Wateree Baptist Church.

GREAT FALLS: Mr. Lawson Earl Towery died Wednesday April 29, 2009 at Chester Regional Nursing Center. He was 84.
Funeral services will be private.
Mr. Towery was born April 12, 1925 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, a son of the late Benjamin and Blanche Green Towery. He was a graduate of Hollis High School and Gardner Webb College. A veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII, Mr. Towery was retired as an architectural and structural engineer. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially NASCAR, gardening, and bird watching.
Surviving are son, James Towery of San Jose, California; daughters, Linda Kious of Carpentersville, Illinois and Sharon Poynter of Kildeer, Illinois; brothers, Robert Towery of Fort Collins, Colorado, Dudley Towery of Henderson, Nevada, Gene Towery of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Butch Towery of Great Falls, SC; sister, Mozelle Jones of Great Falls; grandchildren, Mark, Mike, Terri, Paul, and Brent; and 4 great grandchildren. Mr. Towery was preceded in death by his wife, Irma VanApeldoorn Towery and a brother, Herman Towery.

Mr. Ott was born May 13, 1934 in Fairfield County, SC, a son of the late Walter I. and Isabelle Craig Ott. He attended the schools of Chester County and was a veteran of the US Army during Korea. He was retired as a roofer with Del Mac Roofing of Monroe, NC.
Surviving are his wife, Verla Mills Ott of Monroe, NC; sons, Randy Ott of Monroe, NC and Bobby Ott of Monroe, NC; one step-son, Larry Mangun of Monroe, NC; 3 grandchildren, Randy Jr., Lauren, Matthew Ott all of Monroe, NC; brothers, Jimmy Ott of Great Falls, SC, Mikey Ott of Great Falls, Gerald Ott of Winnsboro, and Harold Ott of Daytona Beach, FL; and sisters, Irene Windham of Winnsboro, SC, Evon Boone of Bonetown, SC, Jenelle Clingball of Columbia, SC, and Rachel Woods of Great Falls, SC. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Ott and stepdaughter, Catherine Pressley.

GREAT FALLS: Mr. Edward Preston Porter, Jr. of Golf Course Road died Thursday May 7, 2009 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. He was 68.
Funeral services will be 3:00 Saturday at Hebron Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. David Riddle and the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn cemetery in Great Falls.
Mr. Porter was born August 27, 1940 in Chester, SC, a son of the late Edward Preston and Lena Robinson Porter. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge #277 and Hejaz Shrine Temple. Formerly, he was the owner and operator of 901 Quick Stop and Great Falls Quick Stop. He was a member of Hebron Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Lathan Porter; daughter, Terrie Frost and her husband Mark of Fort Lawn; and two grandsons, Eric Frost and Morgan Frost of Fort Lawn.

GREAT FALLS: Mr. James Avery Looper of Oak Street died Friday May 8, 2009 at Rock Hill Healthcare in Rock Hill, SC. He was 90.
Funeral services will be 3:00 Sunday at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Batchelor officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn cemetery.
Mr. Looper was born March 19, 1919 in Pickens County, SC, a son of the late Lawrence A. and Kate Foster Looper. He attended the schools of Greenville County and was retired from J.P. Stevens Company. During WWII, Mr. Looper served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Great Falls.
Mr. Looper was the widower of Margaret Hegler Looper.
Surviving are his sons, Jimmy Looper of Pelzer, SC and Mitchell Looper of Rock Hill, SC; daughters, Patricia “Pat” Fowler of Rock Hill and Shelvie Ramsey of Rock Hill; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Geneva Gregg of Great Falls and Lavonia Frost of Rock Hill; and a brother, Bill Few of Liberty Hill.

Georgetown - Lilas Boyd Mitchum, 91, widow of Walter Barlow Mitchum, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Lakewood Baptist Church.. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Deeter. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Kingstree Memorial Gardens in Kingstree, S. C.
She was born September 28, 1917 in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late Charles Oscar Boyd, Sr. and the late Estelle Smith Boyd.
Mrs. Mitchum was a homemaker. She was also a charter member of Lakewood Baptist Church.
Surviving are: two daughters, Elaine Mitchum of Georgetown and Barbara Baker and her husband James of Blackstock, S. C.; 2 grandchildren, Robert Baker and Susan Baker Roberts, both of Blackstock.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Waymon Boyd, Ernest Boyd, Buford Boyd, and C.O. Boyd as well as a great grandson, Buck Mills.

born August 14, 1988 in Chester County, SC, Miss Gaston was the daughter of Chalmers E. Gaston and Starlene Yancey Corder. She was a graduate of Great Falls High School.
Surviving in addition to her parents are one daughter, Dezirae Shyann McCall of Great Falls, SC; one brother, Jamie Corder of Great Falls, SC; paternal grandmother Mildred Gaston of Chester and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Bobby Gaston.

born September 26, 1922 in Surry County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Raleigh E. and Vada Leigh Johnson Eads. She attended the schools of Surry County and was retired as a cloth inspector.
Surviving are two sons, Jim Morrison and wife Frankie of Booneville, NC and Vester "Buck" Morrison of Great Falls; daughter, Barbara Reid and husband Jimmy of Great Falls; brother, Arnold Gray and wife Linda of Booneville; and sisters, Edith Crouse of Elkin, NC and Peggy Cox of Greensboro, NC. She is also survivied by 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and a step-sister, Janie Starnes of Albemarle, NC. She was preceded in death by two sons, James E. Morrison and Raleigh Morrison and a step-daughter Nina Starnes.

GREAT FALLS: Mr. Troy M. Thompson, age 89, died Sunday, May 24th at his residence, 4460 Great Falls Highway.
Funeral will be 3:00 Tuesday at Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Scott Smoak, Rev. Curtis Cameron and Rev. Mike Sollers. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
Mr. Tompson was born April 13, 1920 in Richland County, SC, a son of the late Lester P. and Ada Evans Thompson. His wife, Frances Privett Thompson, died in 1995.
He was a member and Usher at Mount Dearborn United Methodist Church. He was retired from J. P, Stevens Company and work for the Town of Great Falls Recreation Department after his retirement. He was also a member of the Flop Eye Breakfast Club.
He is survived by: 3-Sons: Mark Thompson of Gastonia, NC, Ronald and Stanley Smith of Great Falls, SC. Two daughters: Annie Haile of Great Falls and Elaine Schweitzer of Charlotte, NC. One brother: Melvin Thompson of Walker LA and one sister: Alice McFarland of Great Falls, SC 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 8-great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son: Troy M. “Sonny Boy” Thompson, Jr.
