Tommie Broadwater
Tommie Broadwater, of Clarks Hill, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010 at The Place at Martinez Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Rev. Winston G. Oliphant officiating and the Rev. Russell Brisco as eulogist. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Lillian Broadwater; sons, Jack Broadwater, Norfolk, Va. and Ridgeway Freeman, Plum Branch; daughter, Leslie Parker, Evans, Ga.; brother, Claude Broadwater, West Hempstead, N.Y.; sisters, Georgia Harmon, Clarks Hill, and Annie Griffin, Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives.. Norris W. Gunby, Sr. Funeral Home, Lincolnton, was in charge of arrangements.
Ada Quarles Caylor
Mrs. Ada Quarles Caylor, 73, of Ormond Beach, Fla., died after a lengthy illness at Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Red Hill Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Caylor was born on Dec. 6, 1937 to Ray Vaughn Pierce and Hattie Louise Quarles in Edgefield County. She was a longtime resident of Ormond Beach, Fla. She enjoyed spending time at the beach, gardening, and travel, and was active at Tomoka Christian Church and First Baptist of Daytona Beach.
Survivors include four children, a daughter, Bonnie (Wayne) Dunham, Piney Flats, Tenn., a son, Wayne (Alison) Caylor, Belle River, Onterio, a daughter, Wanda (Mark) Lee, Milton, Ga., a son, David Caylor, Apopka, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Philip Dunham, Will Dunham, Joseph Dunham, Jennifer Caylor, Jim Caylor, Rachel Lee and Harrison Lee.
Mrs. Caylor was one of six children and is survived by her sister, Alma Morgan, Johnston; her sister-in-law- Jean Quarles, Edgefield; a niece, Brenda Hammond; and nephews, Ellis Quarles, Steve Quarles and John Robert Quarles.

Terri Turner Godfrey
Mrs. Terri Turner Godfrey, 50, of Rabbit Trail in Edgefield, wife of Tye Gregg Godfrey, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Edgefield, with burial in Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Godfrey was born in Edgefield County and attended Antioch Baptist Church. She retired from Meybolm Realty with 23 years of loyal service. She was a 1978 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Brett Douglas (Alison) Godfrey; her daughter, Blair Elizabeth Godfrey; grandchildren, Annalynn Elizabeth Godfrey and Coleson Douglas Godfrey; sisters, Beth (Jimmy) McCary, Vickie (Danny) Riley; brothers, Mike (Tonya) Turner, Glenn (Sheryl) Turner and Chris (Cherrill) Turner; and stepfather, John Langley.
She was predeceased by her father, Babe Turner, and her mother, Diddy Langley.

Henry Meriwether Sr.
Mr. Henry Meriwether Sr., 76, of Courtney Road in Trenton, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
Mr. Meriwether, a native of Edgefield County, was a deacon and member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara A. Young Meriwether; a son, Henry Meriwether Jr., Ridge Spring; four daughters, Patricia Meriwether, Williston, Sheila (Clyde) Byrd, Beech Island, Daffney Young, Trenton, and Erica Young, Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Alex (Jo) Meriwether, North Augusta, and George (Alexzina) Meriwether, Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Lillie (Randall) Wade, Augusta; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of other relatives.

J.D. Mobley Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. J.D. Mobley Jr. of Johnston, were held Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010 at noon at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest Gordon, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Simmon Ridge Baptist Church cemetery.
He was a veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Mobley; sons, Juan (Siriwan) Mobley and Tony Moble, both of Augusta, Ga.; a daughter, Carolyn Mitchell, Norfolk, Va.; brothers, Bernard (Cynthia) Mobley, the Rev. Rook Hoyt Sturgis
Mrs. Rook Hoyt Sturgis, of Rock Hill, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010 at Harbor Chase Assisted Living in Rock Hill.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
born the daughter of William Rook and Jana Hoyt in Edgefield County in 1915, she attended Lander College and Columbia Business School before moving to Rock Hill. Mrs. Sturgis was a business woman, a community activist and an avid Democrat. As an election judge, she was passionate about everyone exercising their right to vote. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Business and Professional Women's Club.
Surviving are her sister, Betty Jane Eustic of Peoria, Ill.; her stepson, W.C. Spencer and his wife, Ann.
She is predeceased by her husbands, C.W.F. Spencer and Earl Sturgis; her parents; and her sister, Martha Hoyt Yonce.

BLACKSTOCK: Mr. Larry Edward McDonald, 69, died Thursday June 11, 2009 at Heritage Health Care in Ridgeway, SC.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the graveside at Hebron Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. David Riddle officiating.
Mr. McDonald was born July 30, 1939 in Fairfield County, a son of the late Storment Brown and Evelyn Sanders McDonald. A graduate of Mount Zion High School in Winnsboro, SC, he was retired from Springs Industries.
Surviving are his brother, Jimmy McDonald of Blackstock; a niece, Janice Lynn McManus of Blackstock; and two nephews, Robert Dixon and Billy Dixon of Blackstock.

born September 29, 1930 in Great Falls, Mr. Jones was a son of the late Floyd Thomas and Tessie Tarlton Jones and attended the schools of Great Falls. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Jones was formerly employed with J.P.Stevens Co., Springs Industries, and Kendall of Camden.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Roberts Jones; a son Jayson Jones and his wife Sheri of Great Falls; daughters, Denise J. Flowers and her husband Daniel of Great Falls and Lynn J. Rogers and her husband Tim of Anderson, SC; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a sister, Grace Christopher of Blythewood, SC.

GREAT FALLS: Mr. Jimmy Clyde Murphy died Friday June 12, 2009 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was 66.
Funeral will be 3:00 PM Monday at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Cameron officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
He was born in Lancaster, SC the son of the late J. B. and RuthTempleton Murphy. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and Capital Barber College. He and his grandfather operated the City Barber Shop for several years. He formerly owned and operated Murphy’s Sporting Goods and and served as a deputy sheriff for Fairfield and Chester County. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Great Falls Masonic Lodge # 288 and Hejaz Shrine Temple.
Surviving are his wife: Judy Doby Murphy, two daughters: Sharon Murphy Long and husband Danny of North Wilkesboro, NC and Susan Murphy Morgan and husband Marvin of Blackstock, SC. 5-Grandchildren: Kristi, Marvin IV, Hannah and Ben Morgan and Daniel Long.

born March 28, 1933 in Kershaw County, SC, Mrs. Kennington was a daughter of the late Fred Isaac and Bleeker Morgan Gardner. She attended the schools of Kershaw County and was formerly employed with J.P. Stevens Co. and was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. She was the widow of Crawford Kennington.
Surviving are her sons, Jeff Kennington and his wife Mary of Charlotte, NC and the Rev. Sam Kennington and his wife Missy of Lancaster, SC; a daughter, Cynthia Kennington of Kershaw; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Joe Gardner of Hartsville, SC and two sisters, Floree Todd and Nell Brown of Kershaw, SC. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Kennington.

CAMDEN: Mr. Richard Gary Granger, Jr. died Tuesday June 16, 2009. He was 40.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Great Falls with the Rev. Andy Wells and the Rev. Greg Batchelor officiating. Interment will be private.
Mr. Granger was born November 5, 1968 in Chester County, SC and was a son of Richard Gary, Sr. and Karen Powers Granger. He was a graduate of Great Falls High School and a commercial fisherman.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Great Falls are his wife, Pamela Crossland Granger; a son, Richard Gary Granger, III and his wife Rebecca of Pickens, SC; daughters, Laken and Noel Granger of the home; brother, Jason Granger and his wife Allison; sister, Amy Baker and her husband Tommy of Great Falls. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Gertrude West of Great Falls; maternal grandfather, Henry West of Great Falls; paternal grandmother, Chiella Granger of Great Falls; two nieces, Madison Granger and Arden Baker; two nephews, Tommy Baker, III and Jimmy Granger; and a special lifelong friend, Ronnie Thompson of Camden.
