Glenda Miller Risinger
Glenda Miller Risinger, 51, of 985 Butler Road, died January 14, 2009, in Lexington Medical Center.
born in Norfolk, VA, a daughter of Ellen Rae Scurry Miller and the late Francis Allen Miller, she was the wife of Charles Allen Risinger. Mrs. Risinger was a Farm Loan manager with the USDA, Farm Service Agency. She was a director and treasurer of the Saluda County Forestry Association, director of Saluda County Cattlemen's Association and a member of the Saluda County Farm City Week Committee. She was a member of Saluda Baptist Church and Ladies 2 Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her husband, Charles Allen Risinger of the home, her mother, Ellen Rae Scurry Miller of Saluda, a stepson, Chad Risinger of Leesville, paternal grandmother, Angell Manley Miller of Saluda, three sisters, Jane Miller Good of Aiken, Karen Miller Fulmer of Saluda, and Margaret Angela Miller of Atlanta, four nieces, a nephew and two great nieces.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Ramey Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Saluda Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Rogers and Rev. John Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in West Travis Park cemetery.

Julia Elizabeth Caldwell Forrest
Mrs. Julia Elizabeth Caldwell Forrest, 89, of Saluda, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at Deans Chapel Pentecostal Church, Hollywood School Road, Saluda. Burial was at Bethany United Methodist Church, Bethany Church Road, Saluda.
Mrs. Forrest was an avid gardener, a floral designer and a lifelong member of Deans Chapel Church .She worked for many years with Saluda Shirt Company and retired after 27 years from the Flower and Gift in Saluda.
Survivors include her four children, Patsy Matthews (Terry), North Augusta, Terry Forrest (Miriam), Apple Valley, Minn., Von Forrest, Saluda, and Gebie Forrest, Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Denise Johnson (Monte), Dana Cook (Greg), Brian Forrest (Amanda), and Brandon Matthews (Sandra); great-grandchildren, Clayton and Beth Ellen Johnson and Sarah Phoebe and John Clark Cook; siblings, Hubert Caldwell and Willard Bickley, Newberry, Ozie Krell, Prosperity, Sudie Berry and Ted Caldwell (Gloria), Saluda, Heyward (Mae), Boise, Idaho, and Joyce Harling, Edgefield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobson and Phoebe Perry Caldwell; her husband of over 58 years, George W. Forrest; two daughters, Kay Forrest Palmer and Sandra Dale Forrest; and a great-grandson, Forrest Johnson.

Sara Holston Hallman, of Monetta, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Ridge Spring.

Mildred Thomas Quarles
Mrs. Mildred Thomas Quarles, 78, wife of the late Tom Quarles, of Watson Street in Johnston, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Quarles was a lifelong resident of Johnston and was a homemaker. She was retired from Riegel Division of Mt. Vernon Mills and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia O. (Robert) Billue, Aiken; two granddaughters, Michelle Ouzts (Ryan) Orr, Aiken, Nikki Ouzts, Braselton, Ga; two stepgrandsons, Rob (Laura) Billue, Douglasville, Ga., and Chris (Deedee) Billue, Aiken; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Grace Orr; a great-grandson, Benton Ryan Orr; a stepgreat-grandson, Brice Billue; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Sarah Aubree Billue; a sister, Marjorie Thomas Yonce, Johnston; and a brother, H.W. Mr. Leroy Walker, 53, of Johnson Road in North Augusta, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. at Mealing Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmie Dyson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Walker, a 1973 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School, was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Mealing Grove Baptist Church where he served on the deacons ministry and choir ministry.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Wigfall Walker; a daughter, Keisha Walker; a son, Steven Walker; his father, Roosevelt Walker Sr.; two brothers, Roosevelt (Polly) Walker Jr., and John Henry Walker; four grandchildren; godchildren, Janaeshia McKie and Antonio Grant; an aunt, Frances Glover; five uncles, Butler Walker, Bill Walker, Willie (Min. Bea) Lee, Grady Lee and Lawrence Lee; and a host of other relatives.

Wilbur Y. "Dib" Padgett Sr.
Mr. Wilbur Y. 'Dib' Padgett Sr., 93, husband of the late Bernice Black Padgett, of Trenton, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Burial was in Ebenezer cemetery.
Mr. Padgett was a native of Edgefield County. He was retired from Graniteville Company and was a former deacon and lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Billy (Helen) Padgett; a granddaughter, Sandi Padgett; a brother, Herman (Mae) Padgett; and a sister-in-law, Dot Padgett.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda B. Padgett, and a granddaughter, Laura K. Padgett.

Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Rosa Bell Abney-Brown were held Sunday, March 8, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Shaws Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. R.C. Holloway, pastor, and the Rev. Deloris Marshall, eulogist, officiating.

Mike Norman
Memorial services for Mr. Mike Norman, 61, of Garrett Road in Edgefield, who died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, were conducted Saturday, June 13, at 4 p.m. at Posey Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Lynda Sims, chaplain of Alliance Hospice officiated.
Mr. Norman was a native of Wisconsin, a former resident of Panama, having made his home in Edgefield County since 2000. he was a U.S. Army veteran and Civil Service retiree, who worked on the Panama Canal for 25 years. He was an avid deep sea fisherman and upon retiring enjoyed living in the country.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Susan F. Norman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Angelica Norman, Marietta, Ga., and Daniel and Susan Norman, Charlottesville, Va.; a brother and sister-in-law, Terry and Sue Norman, Linn Creek, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jax, Matthew, Nicole, Benjamin and Valerie Norman.

Mr. Exzradrian Holloway, 32, of Hugh Street in North Augusta, died Thursday, June 11, 2009.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 19, at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Arthur L. Kemp officiating. Burial will be in the Holloway Family cemetery.
Mr. Holloway, a 1996 graduate of North Augusta High School, was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in North Augusta.
Survivors include four children, Deonna Holloway and Exzradrian Holloway Jr., Greenville, Zavonia Holloway, Augusta, Ga., and Aniyna Mitchell, Atlanta, Ga.; his mother, Jacqueline Johnson Holloway, North Augusta; a brother, Quincy Holloway, North Augusta; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Meriwether, Trenton; maternal grandparents, David and Addie Johnson, North Augusta; and a host of other relatives.

Dr. J. Sam Garrison
Johnston, SC Funeral Services for Dr. James Samuel Garrison, age 90, will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Johnston First Baptist Church at 11 am with burial to follow in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Bland Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm.
Dr. Garrison, a native of Anderson and Seneca died Monday, June 15, 2009. He was a son of the late Louis C. and Cordelia Hutchinson Garrison. Dr. Garrison was a 1940 graduate of Clemson College and graduated in 1943 from the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston. After completing military service in the US Army in 1946, he moved to Johnston and was engaged in Family Practice until his retirement in 1988. During the years, Dr. Garrison was involved in many civic and community activities and was the Team Physician for Johnston High School Football and later for Strom Thurmond High School Football. He was a member of Johnston First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years.
Survivors include his three daughters and sons-in-law: Janet and Bill Reese, Martha and Sonny Morris, and Margaret and John Mullen; sister: Eunice DelLoache; grandsons: Jim Morris, George Morris, Dr. William Reese, Sam Mullen, Garrison Reese, Tom Mullen; granddaughter: Mary Reese Henson; (they will serve as pallbearers), 10 great grandchildren; and a very special care giver, Marian Hamilton. Dr. Garrison was preceded in death by his wife Lois Miley Garrison and son Reid Garrison.

John D. Perry
Graveside services for Mr. John D. Perry, 90, of Martintown Road in Clarks Hill, who died Saturday, June 6, 2009, were conducted Tuesday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Hill cemetery. Mr. Thomas Goforth officiated. Military honors were accorded by the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71.
Mr. Perry was a native of Smithville, N.C., having made this area his home for the past 64 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as Platoon Sergeant in the 101st Airborne, 501 Company and a member of the Jesse C. Lynch Memorial American Legion Post #71. He was retired from SCE&G, was a former Golden Gloves Boxer and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bonne S. Perry; his son, Jack D. Perry, Clarks Hill; two grandchildren, Gina Williams, North Augusta, and Jackie Perry, New York; three great-grandchildren, Cody Williams, Lauren Perry and Jonathan Perry.

Franklin ‘Frank’ Eugene Mitchell
Mr. Franklin “Frank” Eugene Mitchell, 60, husband of Gloria McClendon Mitchell, of Lakewood Drive in Prosperity, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at Newberry County Hospital.
Memorial services were conducted Thursday, May 28, at 3 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Ware Shoals, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Ostrom and the Rev. Eddie Bledsoe officiating.
He was born in Greenwood County, a son of Mildred Davis Mitchell Woodham of Ware Shoals and the late Claude H. Mitchell. He was a medical technician at Newberry County Hospital and a member of the American Society of Clinical Labs. He was a member of Still Water Baptist Church and had served in the Marines.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a nephew, Josh Mitchell, Laurens; a great-nephew, Carter Mitchell, Laurens; and his loving canine pet, Sadie.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ron Mitchell.

Mrs. Janie R. Goodwin Harrison, 92, of North Augusta, educator and retired supervisor of Family Services, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 1, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Burt and Dr. Albert M. James officiating. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Harrison was a native of Edgefield County and was a graduate of Bettis Academy and Voorhees Junior College. She received her B.A. degree in liberal arts in 1960 and her Master’s degree in social services in 1962 at Syracuse University in New York. She was engaged in several church auxiliaries at Mt. Canaan and Second Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Ira E. (Claire) Harrison, Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Augustus Oliphant, Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Timothy Harrison, Marcus Harrison, Ira Michael Harrison and Meri-Louise Harrison; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins.
