Belvedere, SC - Mrs. Ina Mae Durden, of Hawthorne Drive, wife of the late Sammie Berry Durden, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at her residence. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Bel-Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Welch officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Mrs. Durden was a clerk at Belvedere Pharmacy for over twenty years. She was a charter member at Bel-Ridge Baptist Church where she was a custodian for twenty years. She was also a member of Young At Heart, the Dorcas Sunday School class and the Donna Collins Rush Bible Study. She is survived by four daughters, Sadie Raines of Belvedere, SC, Jane Lakeman of North Augusta, SC, Shirley Smith and her husband Larry of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Peggy Story of North Augusta, SC; one step-daughter, Joan Gail Durden Gay and her husband Melvin of Belvedere, SC; two step-sons, Sammie Berry Durden, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Aiken, SC and James Walter Durden of Belvedere, SC; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Robert Frederick "Sarge" Norbits

Graniteville, SC - Mr. Robert Frederick “Sarge” Norbits, 68, of Duncan Road, entered into rest on Friday, July 23, 2010 at VA Medical Center Downtown. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Bubba Barrett officiating. “Sarge” was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was an auto mechanic in North Augusta for many years, having been associated with Billy Jackson’s Gulf and later with Barrett Auto Sales. He was dad and a good friend to many, many people. He is survived by his wife, Faye G. Norbits of Aiken; a son, Jon Norbits of Augusta; his companion and caregiver, Karen Small of Graniteville; and two grandchildren, Madeline Norbits and Elizabeth Norbits. The family will receive friends at Rowland Funeral Home from 1:00 pm until service time.
Paul F. Merrill

Belvedere, SC - Mr. Paul F. Merrill, husband of Vera Benson Merrill, entered into rest on Monday, August 2, 2010 at University Hospital. His funeral service will be held on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Welch and Dr. Roy Head officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park. Mr. Merrill was a member of Bel-Ridge Baptist Church and the Jessie C. Lynch American Legion Post 71. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps during WWII. In December of 1985, he retired after 34 years as a reactor supervisor at E.I. Dupont. Mr. Merrill was at the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home from the age of 12 through high school, where he was the class president at Greenwood High School. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed. Additional survivors include his son, Robert Merrill of North Augusta, SC; three daughters, Patricia Mullan (Jimmy) of North Augusta, SC, Linda Smith of Beech Island, SC, and Teresa Billingsley (Jim) of Indiana; one brother, Charles L. Merrill (Melba) of Fredricksburg, VA; 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be the Andrews Sunday School Class from Bel-Ridge Baptist Church.

Mr. Dwight Grainger, 68, of Trenton, husband of Onita B. Grainger, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital.
A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with Pastor Daniel Brazell and the Rev. J. Lloyd Prince officiating. Burial was private.
A native of Horry County, Mr. Grainger had made Trenton his home since 1974. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and loved to hunt, fish, camp and garden. Additional survivors include two daughters, Teresa Grainger of New Ellenton and Monica Robison of Aynor; two stepdaughters, Brenda Johnson Jennings of North Augusta and Pamela Johnson of Augusta; a stepson, Randy Todd of Trenton; a brother Delmer Grainger of Aynor; two granddaughters, Nicole Baker and Amber Ray; four step-grandchildren, Jacob Jennings, Brooke Jennings, Heather Fillgrove, Bobby Dorn; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lula M. Hammond Nabritt, 91, of Lamar Court in North Augusta, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at her residence.

Mrs. Nabritt, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary A. (John) Newsome, North Augusta, and Virginia M. (Leroy) Finklin, Augusta, Ga.; three sons, Abron Nabritt, Brooklyn, N.Y., Earl Nabritt, Augusta, Ga., and Albert (Carolyn) Nabritt, North Augusta; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Mrs. Jeanette Leapart Owens, 59, of Edgefield Highway in Trenton, wife of Ronnie Owens, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at Johnston Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Mrs. Owens was a native of Aiken County and was the daughter of the late James and Margie Padgett Leapart. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Dennis Bailey; a stepson, Ronald Owens; two stepdaughters, Sheri Hart, Nancy Mercer; two sisters, Faye (J.D.) Johnson, Brenda Moore; a number of nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Owens was predeceased by a brother, Tommy Leapart, and a brother-in-law, Sammy Moore.

Mrs. Iness Tanner Talbert, 91, of Edgefield, wife of the late Randolph Talbert, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Talbert was a native of Warrenton, Ga. and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was retired from Southern Bell with 39 years of service.
Survivors include a son, Randy (Betsy) Talbert, Greenville; three grandchildren, Sasha (Jeff) Coyle, Greenville, Jennifer Perry, Franklin, Tenn., Thomas (Amanda) Talbert, Virginia Beach, Va.; six great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Cameron Talbert, William Perry, Elias, Coplin, and Jack Coyle.

Funeral services for Mr. Johnnie Steven Smith, 61, of North Augusta, were held Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Bland Funeral Home Chapel in Johnston. Burial followed in Mt. of Olives cemetery in Johnston.
Mr. Smith, a native of Suffolk, Va., died Monday, Feb. 21. He was a son of the late Johnnie and Inez Johnson Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Belinda DeAngelis-Smith; sons, Johnnie Joseph, Chance Garrett and Cheyenne William Smith; and a sister, Patience Small.

Horace Edward Fincher
Funeral services for Mr. Horace Edward “Fatty” Fincher, 62, of Aiken, were held Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Fincher died Saturday, March 5. He was a son of the late Harmon A. and Mildred Jordan Fincher. He was a retired construction supervisor with Custom Metal Fabricators and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Ridge Spring.
Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Fincher; a daughter, Velinda Quintero (Braulio); sons, Michael Edward Fincher (Carla), Gregory Harmon Fincher and Jason Scott Fincher (April); sisters, Patsy F. Rienzo (Bill), Janis F. Holsonback (Oneal) and Tammy F. Reese (Losic); brothers, Buddy Fincher (Janice) and Jessie Fincher (Shirley); grandchildren, Dylan and Megan Fincher, Cannon and William Fincher, Christian, Jacob and Chance Fincher, Nick and Victor Quintero; and special children, Kevin, Clint and Kimberly Fallaw.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tara Fincher; a sister, Marilyn F. Sanders; and a nephew, Tony Rienzo.

Mrs. Trudy Walker Holmes, 88, of Hwy 191 in Trenton, wife of the late Horace T. Holmes Sr., died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
Mrs. Holmes was a native of Oconee County and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and partner in Eureka Farms.
Survivors include two sons, Walker Holmes, Joe Holmes; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Holmes; four grandsons, Lee Holmes, Toby Holmes, Curtis Holmes, Calvin Holmes; five granddaughters, Allie Tronoski, Ryan Small, Hunter Holmes, Joannah Holmes, Callie Holmes; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Walker; and four sisters, Irene Brandon, Josephine Fisher, Frankie Reid and Barbara Ann Hill.
