A memorial service will be held today at 11:00 AM at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kenneth E. Humbers and Rev. Rogar Bishop officiating. Interment will be private. Formerly of Fayette, AL, Mr. Farrar made North Augusta is home since 1999. He was a wonderful family man who will be truly missed. Survivors include his mother, Reba Farrar; his fiancé, Nikki Hammond; two stepsons, C.J. and Caleb Hammond, all of North Augusta, SC; two brothers, William Farrar of Jackson, SC and Scott Farrar of North Augusta, SC; a sister, Angie Jones of North Augusta, SC; several nieces and nephews, Briana Farrar, Jasmine Farrar, Isabelle Jones, Mantle Jones, Ansley A. Farrar, and Ben Sullivan; and Jennifer, Chase and Samantha Mims. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Harris Farrar.

North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Helen M. Culpepper, 78, of Merriwether Community in Edgefield County, SC, entered into rest in the presence of loved ones and family on March 12, 2010 at Trinity Hospital. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Tommy Stacks, minister of the Central Church of Christ, Bastrop, LA officiating. Entombment will be private. Mrs. Culpepper was a native of Macon, GA, a faithful founding member of Belvedere Church of Christ, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Mrs. Culpepper is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Leslie Culpepper; a daughter Laura Bowden Griffin (Gary) of North Augusta; two brothers, Bob R. Barnette (Annette) and R. Earle Barnette (Evelyn) both of Macon, GA; a sister, Edna G. Barnette of Harrisburg, IL; four grandchildren, Clay Culpepper (Amber) of Statesboro, GA, Jennifer Culpepper of Augusta; Brandon Bowden and Amanda Bowden both of New Ellenton; two great grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Reese and Caleb Herndon and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. E.H. Barnette, a brother L.H. Barnette and a son J.L. (Jamie) Culpepper.

Callison Anne Murdock
On Wednesday, March 10th, Callison Anne Murdock was born already in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. “In Christ presence is the fullness of joy, and pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11) In her 16 weeks of life, “God shaped and formed her in her mother’s womb. Her body and soul were marvelously made. God knew her inside and out, and He watched her grow from conception to birth, and all the stages of her life were spread out before Him. He prepared the days of her life before she even lived one day. His thoughts of her were more than the sands of the sea, and on that morning she rose to live with Him forever.” (Psalm 139:13 the Message) Callie Anne is missed and loved by her parents John & Joy Murdock; her sister, Amelia Ruth; her three brothers: Carey, Jarrod Cicero, and Clancy; her Granny, Betty Allgood Murdock; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family will have a private service to honor her.

At her request, no formal services will be held. She will be interred at Aiken Memorial Gardens on Thursday, Mache 18, 2010 at 2:00 pm. She was of the Baptist faith. North Augusta, SC - Mr. Gary John Marcu, 59, of Robin Rd., entered into rest on October 22, 2010 at his residence. His graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Republican Baptist Church cemetery with Pastor Lance Thomas officiating. A native of New Jersey, Mr. Marcu had recently made North Augusta his home. He was a devoted father; a loving son and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a registered nurse and was always on the cutting edge of new developments in his field. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University, a Nursing degree from MCG and a Master of Science in Sports Medicine from the University of Indiana. He loved the Lord and was very faithful to Him. During his time in North Augusta, he attended Republican Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lori O. Marcu; a daughter, Madison F. Marcu; his mother, Florence M. Marcu; two brothers, Theodore “Teddy” Marcu and Warren “Woody” Marcu; a sister Alaine M. Bethune and her husband, Russell “Rusty” Bethune, Jr. He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore “Ted” Marcu and his sister, Cathi Marcu Ziokas.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Sweetwater Church of God with Rev. Phillip Napier and Rev. Ray Boggs officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Survivors include her father Ralph Miller of North Augusta; a son Randy Crawford of Edgefield; three daughters, Sherry Crawford McGraw of Augusta, Ginger Custer of Evans and Marsha Schatz of Marietta, GA; two brothers, Daniel Miller and Ted Miller; a sister, Shirley Doolittle; eleven grandchildren, Keris Armstrong, Blake McGraw, Logan Crawford, Chase McGraw, Kip Custer, Katarina Schatz, Erik Schatz, Hailey Crawford, Destinee Crawford, Faith Crawford and William Crawford and a large extended family. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated today, Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Rev. Gaspar Hegedus celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Strzelecki served in the Apollo Space Mission Program during the 1960’s while working for the Grumman Corp. He retired as an engineer after 36 years with Bechtel Corp. Mrs. Greer was a resident of Belvedere as well as the Plum Branch Yacht Club. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a friend to all who knew her. James Gaston Dover

James Gaston Dover, 97, of Audubon Circle, Belvedere, SC entered into rest on Friday, March 19, 2010. He was born in Gaston County, NC to John Henry & Nanny Dover. He was raised in Belmont, NC, but lived the majority of his life after marriage in South Carolina. He was predeceased by his wife of 75 years, Ruth Gaddy Dover. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 23rd at 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ann Everett officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jimmy Ussery, John Ussery, Troy Dover, Heath Moore, and Ryan Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Belvedere Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, and the Scottish Rite and York Rite of Aiken. Mr. Dover was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed camping and his service to the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. He devoted his lifetime to his family and decades of service to Belvedere Methodist church, the Belvedere Masonic Lodge, 45 years to the Boy Scouts of America and in 1979, he received its highest scouting honor, the Silver Beaver Award. Mr. Dover was retired from DuPont and was a Mason for 69 years, serving in the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shriners and Eastern Star. He served as District Deputy Grand Master in the 6th District of South Carolina and was a 33rd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. Survivors include two sons: James Dale (Barbara) Dover of Beech Island and David Dover of Washington State; three daughters: Dorris Ussery of Belvedere, Susan (Sheldon) Lytton of Los Angeles, and Laura (George) Moore of Lincolnton, GA; eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one nephew.

He retired as a plant mail clerk from Columbia Nitrogen. He was a member of the US Navy during World War II and then served in the US Marine Corp Reserve. Additional survivors include two sons, Sammie Berry Durden, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Aiken, SC, and James Walter Durden of Belvedere, SC; one daughter, Joan Gail Durden Gay and her husband Melvin of Belvedere, SC; four step-daughters, Sadie Raines of Belvedere, SC, M. Jane Lakeman of North Augusta, SC, Shirley Smith and her husband Larry of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Peggy Story of North Augusta, SC; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Fannie Griffin Durden.
