Imogene Kennedy

Imogene Hardegree Kennedy, 95, passed from this earth at her residence in North Augusta, SC on Saturday, April 3, 2010. born August 16, 1914, in Newnan, GA, she was the daughter of the late Tommie Kidd Hardegree and Harmon B. Hardegree. She grew up in Vienna, GA and graduated from Vienna High School. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin Kennedy who owned Kennedy Machine Company in Cordele, Ga. Most days she would be working right beside him, keeping the books, running a lathe or cutting iron. After his death in 1983, she continued to live in their home on Lake Blackshear where she fished and worked in her flower and vegetable gardens. An avid bridge player most of her life, she was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and played right up until her death. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Cordele until she moved to South Carolina in 2002 to be closer to her children. Survivors include her son Edwin H. Kennedy and his wife Ruthie of Belvedere, SC; her daughter, Kay K. Jackson of Blythewood, SC; three grandchildren: Edwin H Kennedy, Jr., Helen Kay Moody of North Augusta, SC, and Hugh Cabot Howie of Oakland CA; three great-grandchildren: Ashton Moody, Justin Moody and Zackary Kennedy. Other survivors include her sisters Rhudene H. Gullage of Searcy, AR, Betty H. Scott of Milledgeville, GA; a brother Harmon B. Hardegree, Jr. of Acworth, GA. Siblings predeceasing her in death were Lorena Alexander, D.L. Hardegree, Thomas Hardegree and Cornelia Hardegree.

North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Carla Sue Griffin, wife of 52 years of Leon Griffin, entered into rest on Monday, September 6, 2010 at University Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Carter officiating. Mrs. Griffin was a member of Broad Street Baptist. Additional survivors include two sons, Michael Griffin of Murrells Inlet, SC and Glenn Griffin and his wife Robin of North Augusta, SC; one daughter, Jayne Smith and her husband Billy of North Augusta; one brother, Robert Turner and his wife Pam of North Augusta, SC; a very special cousin, Paula Taylor of North Carolina; and three grandchildren, Krystle Smith, Scott Brown and his wife Alllison, and Haley Griffin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Florence Williams Turner, and a brother, Phil R. Turner.

Charlotte Bryant Hill

North Augusta, S.C - Ms. Charlotte Bryant Hill, 95, wife of the late John Lewis Hill, Sr., entered into rest Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at National Healthcare. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 1 pm at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Dr. Dane G. Wagner officiating. Ms. Hill was a native of Bartow Georgia making the Augusta area her home for most of her life. She was a member of St. Mark Methodist Church in Augusta, GA. Ms. Hill was retired from St. Joseph Hospital where she was a secretary. Survivors include: her daughter, Clara (Ed) Bryant of North Augusta, a nephew, Ed (Martha) Moody, Jr. seven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Ms. Hill was predeceased by her son, John Lewis Hill, Jr. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her nephew, Ed Moody. The family would like to express a special thanks to NHC for their wonderful care over the last five years.

North Augusta, SC - Mr. Julian H. Gee, husband of the late Dortha “Dot” Gee, entered into rest on Monday, September 6, 2010 at his residence. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Belvedere First Baptist Church with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park. Mr. Gee was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church and retired from the Circulation Department of the Augusta Chronicle. Survivors include one son, Mike Gee and his wife Melanie of North Augusta, SC; one daughter, Sandra Gray and her husband Larry of Evans, GA; one sister, Hazel Brown of Georgetown, TN; four grandchildren, Christy Briggs, Angelica Piercy, Eric Gee and Quinton Gee; and two great grandchildren, Breanna Briggs and Christopher Briggs.

North Augusta, SC - Mr. Ronald L. Nolde, 69, husband of Ruth Ann Nolde, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at University Hospital. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger Schwartz officiating. The casket will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm. Interment will be private. Mr. Nolde retired from SRS as a construction engineer and was an avid Model Railroader & Assn. member. He was a former choir member and a member of the Board of Christian Education. He was also a long time member of the Men’s Breakfast Bible Study. Additional survivors include his daughter, Vicki Swint and her husband Greg of Augusta, GA; his sister, Amy Dittmer of Orlando, FL; and three grandchildren, Cody Brown, Shelton Swint, and Jackson Swint. Pallbearers will be the Men’s Bible Study Group.

North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Jeanne M. Jennings, 75, wife of 57 years of Fred Jennings, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at University Hospital. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Roy L. Head officiating. Entombment will follow at the Pineview Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Jennings moved to the Augusta area in 1952 from Oak Ridge, TN and lived in North Augusta for the last 50 years. She retired from the Gracewood Post Office where she had served as Postmaster and was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church. Additional survivors include two sons, Gregg Jennings (Brenda) of North Augusta, SC and Kenneth Jennings (Lori) of Clarksville, GA; one daughter, Denise Swygert of Belvedere, SC; one brother, Mike McFarland of Jupiter, FL; one sister, Louise Eason of Ft. Stuart, FL; three grandchildren, Jacob Jennings, Brooke Jennings and Nicole Williams; and three great grandchildren, Paige Jennings, Cora Jennings, and Kyron Williams. Pallbearers will be Thomas Turner, Jacob Jennings, Phillip McBeth, Marco Williams, David Windsor, and Gerald McNeal.

North Augusta, SC - Mr. James E. Wood, 69, husband of Dale Wood, of McKenzie Dr., entered into rest on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, August 23, 2010 in the Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Mitchum and Pastor Bill Mitchum officiating. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park. Mr. Wood was a native of Loganville, GA and had made North Augusta his home for the past 40 years. He retired after 30 years of service from the Augusta Chronicle where he was the press room supervisor. He was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church. Additional survivors include five sons, James Griffin of North Augusta, Richard Griffin of Hephzibah, James Wood of Martinez, Joseph Wood of Monroe, GA and Jeffery Wood of North Augusta; three daughters, Melody Wooten and Sheryl Kelley both of Augusta and Alisa Hudson of Commerce, GA; one brother, Lonnie Wood of Loganville, GA; two sisters, Elaine Myers of Loganville, GA and Inez Stewart of Greensboro, GA and twelve grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mr. Wood’s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Wood’s granddaughters.

Augusta, GA - Mrs. Shirleen Ramsey Pentecost, 90, wife of the late Louis Robert Pentecost, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at St. John Towers. Her graveside service will be held at 10:00 this morning, Friday, August 20, 2010 at Sunset Memory Gardens with Dr. E. Finley Limehouse officiating. Mrs. Pentecost was born in Roanoke, VA and had made the CSRA her home since 1953. She was a member of Warren Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Pentecost of Appling, GA and Richard K. Pentecost of Denton, TX; two daughters, Elaine P. Marks and Kathie Duncan, both of North Augusta; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Glenn E. Pentecost and a daughter, Cheryl P. Shamber.

Ms. Mackling was a graduate of the St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima, OH. She has been a member of the North Augusta community since 1958. She was a retired Registered Nurse, having served as head floor nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and a former pediatric nurse at Eisenhower Medical Center at Fort Gordon. She was a member of OLP Catholic Church. Survivors include her daughter, Lee Stickland of North Augusta and a brother, Harold Pulskamp of Celino, Ohio.

North Augusta, SC - Mr. William “Bill” H. Presley, Jr., husband of Carolyn Boyd Presley, of Arrowhead Lake Road, entered into rest on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Heyward Horton, Larry Cheek and Chaplain Ken Gross officiating. Interment will follow at The Haven at Arrowhead. Bill Presley was a WWII Veteran whose humble beginnings as a farmer, a US Postal mail carrier, and a self-employed landscaper grew into several successful businesses in grading, paving, real estate brokerage and land development. His philanthropic involvement in the establishment of numerous local churches furthered his ultimate goal in life which was to profess his love for the Lord. Many people have been led, and many will be led, to Christ as a result of his earthly work. Additional survivors includes three sons, David B. Presley of Martinez, GA, Gregory A. Presley of North Augusta, and Joel T. Presley and his wife Tracy of North Augusta; four daughters, Kathryn Presley Pye and her husband Andy of North Augusta, Jennifer Presley Downey and her husband Kirk of North Augusta, Kathy G. Jones and her husband Philip of Kalispell, MT, and Karen E. Lerch and her husband Bert of Boone, NC; one brother, Eric C. Presley of Charlotte, NC; one brother-in-law, Freddie Fulcher of North Augusta; sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ina Angeline Presley and Joy Dell Fulcher. The family would like to express special appreciation to Katrina Hollis and to Trinity Hospice.
