North Augusta, S.C - Mrs. Frances LaGore Peck, 77, wife of the late Luther James Peck, entered into rest on Friday, January 22, 2010 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 4:00 pm at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Hunter officiating. Internment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park. Mrs. Peck was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. Survivors include one daughter, Diane Chassereau and husband Randy of North Augusta, SC and one granddaughter, Crystal Chassereau. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, January 27, 2010, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. . Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

North Augusta, S.C - Mrs. Liese E. Webb, 83, wife of the late Eugene D. Webb, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at University Hospital. A graveside inurnment service will be held on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Pineview Memorial Park. Additional survivors include one son, Rick Webb (Terri) of North Augusta; two daughters, Tina Edmonds (David) of Johnston, SC and Becky Malone (Danny) of North Augusta; two sisters, Margaret Bedgood of Martinez, GA and Anna Mangum of Germany; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. . Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rev. David E. Pittman
March 16th, 1912 - February 14th, 2010
North Augusta, S.C - Rev. David E. Pittman Sr., went peacefully home to his Lord in the early morning of February 14, 2010. He faithfully and tirelessly served as a Southern Baptist minister for over 68 years in several church communities. Rev. Pittman was born March 16, 1912 in Callahan, FL to Nora Elizabeth Johnson Pittman and Joseph Barnes Pittman. He married his loyal and loving wife Inez Cobb Pittman on December 24, 1941. Rev. Pittman was a loved and respected minister of the gospel. He is remembered by family and hundreds of his church members and fellow pastors as a caring, loving, thoughtful and generous servant of God. He was preceded in death last year by a son Warren and in 1987 by a grandson Steve Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Inez Pittman; a sister, Elizabeth Lyons; three children, Rebecca, David and his wife Marinell, and John and his wife Yi Ling; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Since his retirement from active ministry he and Inez have lived in Belvedere, SC and were members of Belvedere First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Belvedere First Baptist Church, presided over by his pastor, Rev. John Meyer and Rev. Pittman’s old and dear friend, Rev. John King. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Rev. Pittman requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organization that administers retirement accounts for Southern Baptist ministers. Specifically address donations to Mission: Dignity c/o GuideStone Financial Resources, 2401 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas, TX 75201-1498 or they can go through the Belvedere First Baptist Church.

Elizabeth Sanders Thomas
March 20th, 1926 - February 6th, 2010
North Augusta, S.C - Mrs. Elizabeth Sanders Thomas, wife of the late Melvin Hue Thomas, entered into rest on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Westwood Nursing Home. Her graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 11:30 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. John Meyer officiating. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church and had retired from King Mill after 35 years of service. She was a loving mother and enjoyed cooking. Survivors include her son Everett Thomas (Julie) of North Augusta; two sisters, Ann Mitchell (Charles) of Orange Beach, FL and Mary Rikard of Trenton; and one grandson, Travis Smith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 10 until 11 am. . Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kirk Weeks
November 15th, 1934 - October 13th, 2010
North Augusta - Mr. Kirk Weeks, 75, of Bradford Drive, husband of Alix Weeks, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Medical College of Georgia. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm today at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John L. Weeks officiating. Mr. Weeks was born in New York City on Nov. 25, 1934 to John Kirkland and Geraldine Boardman Weeks. He grew up splitting his time between New York City and Camden, SC. He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Alix Gunn whom he wed on June 11, 1961. Mr. Weeks worked at several papers throughout his life including The Madera Tribune (CA), The Colorado Springs Free Press and The Times (Hammond, IN). It was in 1984 that he was offered a position at The Augusta Chronicle, which he accepted. He held his position as editorial writer until his retirement in 2006. Not being satisfied with retirement, he took every opportunity to contribute to The Chronicle when asked. Additional survivors include a son, John Lafayette Weeks (Tracy) of Indianapolis, IN; two daughters, Tracy Rahmig (Eric) of Brooklyn Park, MN and Jessica Geraldine Weeks of North Augusta and six grandchildren, Caitlin Elizabeth Weeks, Stephen Alexander Weeks, Hannah Nicole Rahmig, Heidi Rea Rahmig, Courtney Eileen Weeks, and Grace Kathleen Weeks. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Kirkland Weeks and a sister, Sewell Boardman Weeks Weadock Mann.

Valerie N. Johnson
October 27th, 1955 - October 5th, 2010
Plum Branch, SC - Mrs. Valerie N. Johnson, 54, departed this life on October 5, 2010. Valerie was born October 28, 1955 in Cumberland, MD. She lived and called McCormick, SC her home for 28 years. She was a member of McCormick United Methodist Church. Valerie was a Relationship Banker at BB&T in McCormick, where her clients and co-workers were treated equally like family. Valerie was a loving wife, mother, sister & daughter. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Bob Johnson; three daughters, Tonia Thomas (Jeff) of Augusta, GA; Heather Seigler (Bucky) of North Augusta, SC; and Jamie Rachels (Snapper) of Greenwood, SC; and three grandsons, Daniel Seigler, Ethan & Brayden Rachels. She is also survived by her parents, James & Betty Nixon of Alexis, NC, as well as her sister, Loraine Hager (Odell) of Monroe, NC. She was preceded in death by her sister, Debbie Nixon & her brother James Nixon, Jr. Valerie fought small cell carcinoma for almost two years. She was an inspiration to all who witnessed her journey. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Augusta Oncology, Trinity Hospice, and all the friends whose selfless love aided in her care.

North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Emily J. Knight, 78, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at University Hospital. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Pineview Memorial Park with Dr. T. Joseph Lusk officiating. Mrs. Knight retired from Kay Jewelers and was an avid gardener. She was a loving grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors include three sons, John E. Plexico and his wife Beth of North Augusta, SC, Eddie O. Plexico and his wife Lisa of Graniteville, SC, and Stephen T. Plexico of Allendale, SC; two daughters, Tina G. Plexico of Augusta, GA and Emily K. Plexico; one brother, Elbert T. Roberts of Matthews, NC; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1 to 2:30 pm. The family will be at the residence of her son, John Plexico, 246 Bridle Path Road, North Augusta, SC 29860.

Ann Monroe Saverance
August 6th, 1939 - September 26th, 2010
North Augusta - Mrs. Ann Monroe Saverance, 71, wife of the late J. Ray Saverance, entered into rest on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Entombment will follow at Pineview Memorial Park. Mrs. Saverance, a native of Newberry, SC, attended True North Church and was an avid Clemson fan. She retired as an administrative assistant of Babcock Center of Lexington. She is survived by her mother, Anna W. Monroe of Newberry, SC; three sons, Charles Saverance and his wife Judy of Florence, SC, Russell Saverance of Columbia, SC, and Todd Saverance and his wife Jodie of North Augusta, SC; two daughters, Kathy Gilliland and her husband Tom, and Jana Saverance all of North Augusta, SC; one sister, Linda M. Epting of Columbia, SC; her grandson Anthony M. Ciccia; fifteen other grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two sons, Del Saverance and Michael Saverance. The family will be at the residence of Kathy and Tom Gilliland, 2017 Country Club Hills Drive, North Augusta, Sc 29860.

Roy Barnes Atkins

Belvedere, SC - Mr. Roy Barnes Atkins, 79, husband of Geraldine B. Atkins, entered into rest on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the VA Medical Center. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Memory Gardens with Rev. H.B. Johnston officiating. Mr. Atkins was of Methodist faith and retired from the US Air Force and the Medical College of Georgia. Additional survivors include two sons, Kevin D. Atkins and his wife Marie Jo of San Diego, CA, and Terry S. Atkins and his wife Gina of North Augusta, SC; and six grandchildren, Lelia Olenik, Kevin Jo Atkins, Brandon Atkins, Blair Lawless, Kellyn Atkins, and Conner Atkins. Pallbearers will be Blair Lawless, Brandon Atkins, Conner Atkins, Allen Seigler, Joseph Milam and Roy Broome.

Jasper M. Bryant, Jr.
December 1st, 1920 - September 23rd, 2010
North Augusta, SC - Mr. Jasper M. Bryant, Jr., husband of the late Helen Havird Bryant, entered into rest on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at National Healthcare. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 27, 2010 at 12:30 PM at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Charles Broome officiating. Mr. Bryant was the founder of Bryant’s Food and Fuel Stores. He was a charter member of St. Mark United Methodist Church where he was a member of the French Bible Class. Survivors include one son, Edward O. Bryant and his wife Clara of North Augusta, SC; one daughter, Susan B. Cooper of Martinez, GA; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Jasper M. Bryant, III and two grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Edward Bryant, Joel Bryant, John Bryant, and Tommy Cooper. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of National Healthcare.

A graveside services will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Locust Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Weaverville, NC. Ms. Haney was born in Mars Hill, NC and was a homemaker. Ms. Haney is survived by two sons: Jerry Haney and wife Hattie of Weaverville, NC and Larry Haney of North Augusta, SC; three daughters: Trudy Gentry and husband Charles of North Augusta, SC, Shirley Davis and husband Ray of Goodyear, AZ, and Kathy Haney of North Augusta, SC; one brother: Bobby Holcombe of York, SC; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Ms. Lois Jeffcoat
May 21st, 1919 - April 17th, 2010
Lois Lorene Williamson Jeffcoat was born May 21, 1919, in Register, GA. When she graduated high school in 1935 she moved to Augusta where she attended Asbury Methodist Church and there met her future husband, Henry B. Jeffcoat, Jr. Lois & Henry were married August 10, 1941. Once the Jeffcoat’s had children, Ms. Jeffcoat was a homemaker, caring for her two children Robert “Bob” Jeffcoat and Henriann Jeffcoat. Once the children were older, she became a school lunchroom manager. Ms. Jeffcoat is survived by her daughter, Henriann; five grandchildren: Staci, Jay & Kelli Walpole, and Julie & Robby Jeffcoat; four great-grandchildren: Savannah & Ariana Walpole, and R.J. & Michaela Jeffcoat; her younger sister: Shelva Lanier and her husband, Larry, of Midway, GA as well as a niece and nephew in Savannah, GA and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents: David & Debbie Williamson; her older sister, Juanita; her son, Bob; her husband, Henry, and her younger sister, Almareta. Pallbearers will be Jason McCollum, David Potocik, Larry Lanier, Don Childers, Donnie Childers, & Eric Samuels. The family will be at the residence of Staci Walpole, 228 Village Parkway.

Her graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 28, 2010 in Pineview Memorial Park with Dr. James C. Adams officiating. Mrs. Wilson was born August 1, 1932 in Hapeville, GA to the late M.L. and Zillah D. Smarr. She had been a resident of North Augusta since 1960 and a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1961. While at Grace, she was a member of the Epworth/Croft Circle as well as the Stillwell Sunday School class. Additional survivors include two sons, Dewey E. Wilson, Jr. and his wife Michele of Clarks Hill, SC and Stephen Gregory Wilson and his wife Earlene of Marietta, GA; two sisters, Billie Coggin and her husband Frank of FL and Janice Haney and her husband James Whitney of TX and five grandchildren, Dewey Smarr Wilson, Justin Harper Wilson, Jenna Wilson, Joshua Wilson and Jillian Wilson.
