Martinez, GA - Mr. Steven Ray Means, 48, of Birchtree Drive, entered into rest on Sunday, May 23, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Lakeside Baptist Church with Pastor Tad Marshall officiating. Ray was a giving person who loved animals. He was a jack of all trades. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Barbara Means of Langley; his parents, Bill and Sonja Means of North Augusta; one brother, Scott Means of Pensacola, FL; one sister, Lori Sykes of Lincolnton, NC; his mother and father-in law, Blake and Linda Mullis of North Augusta; two sisters-in-law, Wendy Oleson of North Augusta and Kristy Key of Clearwater; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by one brother, Paul Means and one sister Debra Weber.

North Augusta, SC - Mr. Jack N. Beverly, 65, of Womrath Rd. entered into rest on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. His funeral service will be private. However, the family will receive friends on Friday, June 18, 2010 at Rowland Funeral Home from 6 until 8 pm. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Aiken (Christopher) of Grovetown, GA; a brother, Donald Beverly of Augusta; a sister, Faye Older of San Antonio, TX and two grandchildren, Caitlin Aiken and Cameron Aiken.

Grovetown, GA - Mrs. Eloise V. Ratcliff, 82, wife of Robert J. Ratcliff of Booker Street, entered into rest Saturday, June 12, 2010 at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Sweetwater Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Noe and Dr. Eleazer Benenhaley officiating. Interment will be in Sweetwater Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Ratcliff was a native of Marion, NC having made Grovetown her home since 1963. Shw was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. Additional survivors include three sons, Roger Ratcliff of North Augusta, Carl Ratcliff of Leasburg, NC and Larry Ratcliff of Nashville, NC; two daughters, Frances Holtzendorff of North Augusta and Sandra McDaniel of Trenton, SC; six sisters, Norma Woods and Lucille Robinson both of Marion, NC, Ann Gregory of Old Fort, NC, Virginia Anderson and Mary Childress both of Hickory, NC and Inez Mann of Marion, NC; fourteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother Roy Lee Blankenship. The family will receive friends at the Rowland Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 this evening. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church of North Augusta with Rev. Jerry Matthews and Rev. Dexter Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park. North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Barbara Ann Huffine, wife of the late John Huffine, of Briggs Avenue, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at University Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Woodridge Baptist Church at a later date. She was a former representative for AT&T and a member of Woodridge Baptist Church. Survivors include her sister, Dorothy Ray of Cheyenne, WY and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mary Walker Harley
November 17th, 1927 - December 23rd, 2009
North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Mary Walker Harley, 82, entered into rest December 23, 2009 at University Hospital. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 12:00 pm at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Paul W. Noe officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Mrs. Harley was born in Harlan, KY on November 17, 1927 to Ora B. Metcalfe and Wheeler Samuel Walker. She grew up in Maryland Park, MD, where she met and married the love of her life, Edwin L. Harley. She was a Sunday School teacher at Belvedere First Christian Church for many years. She was also a Founding Member of the church’s Butterfly Woman’s Circle. The group was named after Mary’s love for butterflies. Mrs. Harley retired from Baily, Banks & Biddle after ten years of service to enjoy traveling with her husband, family and friends. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Roundtable Sunday School Class and the Nancy Smith Circle. She was a past member on the Board of the Augusta Seaboard Federal Credit Union, a member of the American Legion Post 63 Woman’s Auxiliary and the United Transportation Union Woman’s Auxiliary. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She loved to do for others and never met a stranger. She leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters, Ora Jean Johnson (Bill) of Hampton, GA and Brenda Whiteaker (Al) of North Augusta, SC; her three sons, James Edwin Harley (Mary Ann) of North Augusta, SC, David Bruce Harley (Debbie) of Edgefield, SC, and Albert Randall Harley of Cosby, TN, one brother, James Paul Walker of Beaufort, SC; six grandchildren, Brad Harley, Crystal Ross, Sabrina Hoshell, Amanda Matthews, Jonathan Putnam, and Staci Walls and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin L. Harley and her grandson, Clyde George Putnam, IV (Dee). Pallbearers will be Brad Harley, Jonathan Putnam, Michael Walls, Jeff Ross, Bob Kinsey, Randy Harley and Shaun Strotheide. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10 am until time of the service. Thomas Leroy Henre
January 10th, 1928 - December 28th, 2009
North Augusta, SC - Mr. Thomas Leroy Henre, husband of Clara Ellen Henre of Caretta Street, entered into rest December 28, 2009 at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. Private family funeral services will be held at a later date. Additional survivors include two sons, Patrick Henre and Kevin Henre, both of North Augusta, SC. Mr. Henre retired as a Gunnery Sergeant from the US Marine Corps after 24 years of service and from Beaufort City Police Department as the Harbor Patrolman. He was a life member of Port Royal, SC Masonic Lodge #242, Port Royal Order of the Eastern Star, a member of North Augusta Riverfront Marine Corps League and Omar Shrine Temple of Charleston, SC. Trenton, SC - Mrs. Thelma Wilson Birt, wife of the late David O. Birt, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 11:00 am at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Coyle and Rev. Carl Hayes officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park. Mrs. Birt was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was also a foster grandparent at Belvedere Elementary School. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Sims (Major) of Beech Island, SC and Beverly Stewart of Trenton, SC; two brothers, Frank Wilson of Allendale, SC and Howard Wilson of Warner Robins, GA; one sister, Inez McCollum of North Augusta, SC; two grandchildren, Nikki Stewart and Travis Birt; and one great granddaughter, Lydia Stewart. She was preceded in death by her son, David Michael Birt. Pallbearers will be Ronald McCollum, James McCollum, Cody McCollum, Andrew McCollum, Jerry McCarty and Kevin Hunt. Belvedere, SC - Mrs. Juanita Daniels Anderson, wife of the late John H. Anderson, entered into rest December 14, 2009 at her residence. Her funeral service will be Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 3:00 pm at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Meyer and Rev. J. Lloyd Prince officiating. Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park. Mrs. Anderson was a life long member of Belvedere First Baptist Church. She was a tireless caregiver and a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Survivors include two sons, Harry Christopher Anderson and wife Denise of North Augusta and Richard John Anderson and wife Susie of Belvedere; five grandchildren, Charlotte Britt and husband Jeff, Christopher Lee Anderson, John Garrett Anderson, Michael Lee Anderson, and Courtney Marie Anderson; and two great grandsons, Jeffrey Russell Britt and Jacob Anderson Britt. Pallbearers will be Michael Anderson, J. Garrett Anderson, Jeffery Britt, Jeff Britt, Jacob Britt and Ronald Strom. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 pm. Marvin F. Atkinson
March 29th, 1921 - December 2nd, 2009
North Augusta, SC - Mr. Marvin F. Atkinson, 88, entered into rest Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia. His funeral service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at 11:00 am at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Heyward Horton and Rev. Mac Grizzard officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill cemetery. Mr. Atkinson was a retired barber and an ordained minister. He served as an interim pastor for area churches since 1947 and received a degree in Pastoral Ministries from the Southern Baptist Theology Seminary. He was also a member of the Aiken Baptist Association for 64 years, a life member of Acacia Lodge #315 AFM and Belvedere Lodge #388 AFM, and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Atkinson was the first historian of the North Augusta Historical Society. Mr. Atkinson is survived by a special friend, Catherine Kairnan of North Augusta, SC; one daughter, Joyce A. Brumbeloe of Augusta, GA; one step-daughter, Jane Jones of Augusta, GA and a number of grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Larry Kitchens, Robert Kitchens, Joe Heyward, John Wood, John Rice, and Justin Hastings. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5:30 until 7:30 pm. Burial will follow in Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Edgefield, SC. Mr. Andrews was a mechanic at International Paper and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Mr. Andrews is survived by two daughters, Whitney LeeAnn Andrews (Augusta, GA) and Lindsey Elizabeth Ferguson and husband Wesley (North Augusta, SC); one son, Patrick Edward Andrews (Augusta, GA); his significant other, Kiz Malpass (North Augusta, SC); five brothers, Michael Andrews (NY), David Andrews (NY), Stephen Andrews (NC), William Andrews (NC), and Robert Andrews (GA); three sisters, Rosemary Walsak (NC), Laurie Warner (NC), and Jeanne Marie Andrews (NY); three grandchildren, Makenzie Taylor Andrews, Rydley Houston Andrews, and Nataley Brooks Ferguson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Andrews is preceded in death by two sisters, Cathy Andrews and Deborah Dean. Pallbearers will be his son and brothers. Honorary Pallbearers will be employees and friends of International Paper. Betty L. Morris

North Augusta, SC - Mrs. Betty Louise Yochum Morris, 84, beloved wife and Mother, entered into rest on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at National Healthcare. The family will receive friends at Thompson Miller Funeral Home in Hillsboro, OH on Saturday, June 26, 2010 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. A graveside service will follow at Buford cemetery. Betty, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Edna Yochum of Hillsboro, was born on January 27, 1926 in Highland County, OH. After graduating from Marshall High School, she married John Morris of Wilmington, OH. They later relocated to South Carolina. Betty received Christ as her Savior at a young age and continued to walk in his path throughout her life. She is survived by three sons, James E. Morris and wife Angie of Prince George, VA, Stephen L. Morris and wife Marion of St. Cloud, FL, and Lawrence D. Morris and wife Susan of North Augusta, SC; two daughters, Patricia A. Missildine and husband Donald of North Augusta, SC, and Rebecca S. Carter and husband Joseph of Pensacola, FL, one sister, Naomi Dolph of Wilmington, OH; one brother Ralph J. Yochum and wife Marjorie of Marshall, OH; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Paul L. Yochum of Marshall, OH. She leaves cherished memories of her singing and her laughter with all who loved her.

George Jackson "Jack" Alexander
November 1st, 1926 - June 20th, 2010
North Augusta, SC - Mr. George Jackson “Jack” Alexander went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 20, 2010, at the age of 83. He was a lifelong resident of North Augusta and was the Grandson of James Urquhart Jackson, Founder of North Augusta. He was a faithful husband and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at North Augusta Bible Chapel with Rev. Ted Stephens and Rev. Roger Bennett officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill cemetery. Mr. Alexander was born at his childhood home, Rosemary Hall, on Carolina Avenue on Nov. 1, 1926 to James Bishop Alexander II and Edith Barrington Jackson Alexander. Jack was the youngest of five children. Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, Barrington “Peg” Harrison, Helen Silas, Catherine Harn, and one brother James Bishop Alexander III. He attended North Augusta Elementary, North Augusta High School, and Boys Catholic High School. He served his country bravely in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and attended Wofford College in Spartanburg. At the age 26, Jack married Donna Lou Coates, of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin on June 20, 1953. They were married for exactly 57 years to the day, and had three sons. He was in fellowship for many years at North Augusta Bible Chapel, where he served faithfully with the Emmaus Prison Ministry. Jack is survived by his loving wife Donna; three sons, George Jackson Alexander, Jr. (Karen), Dale Coates Alexander and James Bishop Alexander, IV(Shari); five grandchildren, Jackson (Grace), Stephen, Matthew, Phillip and Sarah; four great grandchildren, Watchman, Bronwyn, Asher and Rafe. Pallbearers will be his grandsons as well as David McKie and Gerald Stephens. The family will receive friends at Rowland Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 5 until 7 pm. Memorial may be made to the North Augusta Bible Chapel Prison Ministry, 1050 Hammond Dr. North Augusta, SC 29841.
