Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Clark Dixon, 88, of Amherst Drive in North Augusta, who died Thursday, June 11, 2009, were conducted Sunday, June 14, at 3 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Pastor James K. Glander officiated. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Dixon was a native of Johnston, having made North Augusta her home for the past 58 years. She was a charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was a Nursery Class teacher for over 50 years and a member of the Rececca Circle.
Survivors include her two sisters and a brother-in-law, Harriet C. and Charles Lucas and Jean Clark, all of Johnston; a niece, Lisa Jones and her husband Dennis, Martinez; two nephews, Paul Clark Lucas and his wife Karen, Charleston, Robert N. Risinger and his wife Dawn, Lexington; great nieces, Charlotte Corrow, Sarah Lucas and Kasey Risinger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Ernest and Gertrude Yonce Clark; her husband, Paul Thomas Dixon Sr.; her son, Paul Thomas Dixon Jr.; and her sister, Sadie Clark Risinger.

Mrs. Mary Lou Curry Stringer, 71, of Church Road in Augusta, Ga., died Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at University Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 6, at 11 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Augusta Central Congregation, with Brother Willie F. Hughes officiating. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Johnston.
Mrs. Stringer, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Augusta Central Congregation.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Stringer Jr.; a daughter, Gwendolyn (Willie) Baker, Augusta; six sons, William Stringer, Ronnie (Denise) Stringer, Augusta, Larry Stringer, Danny Stringer, Belvedere, Michael (Edwina) Stringer and Douglas Stringer, Hephzibah, Ga.; five sisters, Mary Oliphant, Carrie Butler, Washington, D.C., Hattie Simpkins, Alice Dobey and Martha Curry, Edgefield; two brothers, Henry Curry Sr., Trenton, and Willie Curry, Winston, N.C.; sister-in-law, Rosetta Stringer, Augusta; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Georgia Mays, 66, of Belvedere, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Odyssey House in Decatur, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Old Piney Grove Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mays, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Old Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mattie B. Butler Jennings, 88, of Vann Road in Trenton, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Edgefield County Hospital.

Mrs. Jennings, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Science Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary A. Harris, 73, of Harris Family Circle in Trenton, died Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Harris was a member of Republican Grove Baptist Church, Edgefield, and a member of the Senior Choir. Mr. Jerry Nichols Crocker Sr., 75, husband of Sara Cody Crocker, of Hillcrest Drive in Johnston, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Johnston United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rebecca Shirley and Dr. John Cody Jr. officiating. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park.
born in Spartanburg County, he was a son of the late Raymond Sr. and Ola Nichols Crocker. He was a member of Johnston United Methodist Church where he was active in the choir. He was retired from Riegel Textile Co.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jerry Crocker Jr. and wife Lisa of Johnston; a daughter, Cindy Balentine and husband Steve of Johnston; two brothers, Raymond Crocker Jr. of Union and Don Crocker of Ft. Payne, Ala.; two sisters, Judy Aman of Welford and Nancy O’Dell of Union; and four grandchildren, Nick and Jessy Crocker, and Becca and Stephen Balentine.
He was predeceased by a brother, larry Crocker, and a sister, Jenny Merle Crocker.

Andrew Cook
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Andrew Cook, 86, of Lost Wilderness Road in Clarks Hill, who died Monday, May 25, 2009, was conducted Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, with Father Tim Lijewski, celebrant.
Mr. Cook was a native of St. Catherine, Ontario, Canada, having made Clarks Hill his home for the past 13 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church; a Canadian Air Force veteran of World War II where he served a's tailgunner; and a retired Ironworker with Local Union #9 of Niagara Falls, N.Y.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose of which he received the Pilgrim Degree in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Lila G. Cook; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Cook, Tampa Fla., Roderick and Emily Cook, Atlanta, Ga., Clarence and Traci Lawson, Oil City, Pa.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Mike Anderson, Amherst, N.Y., Laura and Hank Conley, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; a sister, Anne Homer, St. Catherine’s, Ontario, Canada; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Franchuk Cook; three brothers; and a sister. The Vigil Service was conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 6 p.m.

Calvin Leroy Burgess Sr.
Mr. Calvin Leroy Burgess Sr. of North Augusta, son of the late Archie and Cora Burgess, born June 22, 1921 in Spartanburg, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009.
Home going services were conducted Saturday, May 30, at 3 p.m. at Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Bill Branch officiating. Burial services were conducted at Pineview Memorial Park and repast was held at Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church reception hall.
He was the husband of Margie Burgess for 55 years. He was a resident of Edgefield County for 25 years. He retired from Local Union 379 of Charlotte, N.C. as an electrician in 1986. He served his country during World War II through the branch of the Navy.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Calvin L. (Michelle) Burgess Jr., North Augusta, Wayne (Vickie) Burgess, Laurens; four daughters, Cynthia (Rick) Smith, North Augusta, Jackie (Wayne) Bruce, Readyville, Tenn., Nancy (Al, Sr.) Wooden, North Augusta, Jewel (Douglas) Fowler, Greer; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hester (Pete) Harris, Spartanburg, Lucille Cannon, Spartanburg, Sarah (Leroy) Patterson, Spartanburg; two brothers, James (Betty) Burgess, Greenville, and John E. Miss Harriet Elizabeth “Boots” Bandy, of Coleman Avenue in Johnston, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, March 22, at 3:30 p.m. at Johnston First Baptist Church in Johnston, with the Revs. Thomas D. Barwick, Athon Arant and Charles Hattaway officiating. A private burial was held before the Memorial Service at Overbrook cemetery in McCormick. The family received friends in the Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the Memorial Service. Pallbearers were John Bandy, Jeff Bandy, Chris Bandy, Brandon Bandy, Eddie Edwards, Dawes Edwards, Josh Edwards and Chase Edwards.
born in Wilson, N.C., she was a daughter of the late W.C. and Irene McCall Bandy. She was retired from Strom Thurmond High School.
She is survived by her brother, J. W. Bandy (Sandra) of Easley and their children, Chris Bandy (Maggie) of Clemson, Brandon Bandy of Easley and Angie Bandy-Marlow of Easley; her sister-in law, Dot Bandy of McCormick and her sons, John Bandy (Tonia) of Lakefield, Minn. and Jeff Bandy (Hope) of Shreveport, La.; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Harvey Bandy; her niece, Jean Elizabeth Bandy; and her nephews, Christopher Bandy and Scott Bandy.

Mr. Pete Joseph Riley, 77, husband of Shirley Riley, of Mim Woodring Drive in North Augusta, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his residence.
His Funeral Mass and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Saturday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Peter Clarke as celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.

Leslie Donald Meggers
Mr. Leslie Donald Meggers, 87, of Trenton, died Sunday, March 13, 2011, in his home, under the care of Trinity Hospice.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Sunday, March 20, from 2 to 5 p.m., at Twin Lakes Airport, 2 Rachel Avenue in Trenton.
born in Clinton, Iowa, he was a son of the late Elmer and Emma Kunde Meggers. He had been a resident of Tampa, Fla., for 20 years. Mr. Meggers retired after 50 years of service as a corporate pilot. A World War II veteran, he served his country in the United States Navy as a pilot. Due to his love for aviation, he built his home at Twin Lakes Airport five years ago. A master craftsman, especially in the area of woodworking, he enjoyed building airplanes out of wood, flying and rose gardening. He was a member of Star Lodge #99 A.F.M. and was also a Shriner.
He is survived by children, Janet Shanhan, Phyllis Fleharty and Steve Meggers, all of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
