Carley Ashton Peace
Visitation for Carley Ashton Peace, 8, of Briggs Road, North Augusta, who died, Wednesday, April 20, 2011, was conducted at Posey Funeral Directors Saturday, April 23, from 2 until 4 p.m.
Carley was a life-long resident of North Augusta, a second grade student at Merriwether Elementary School and a fourth generation tattoo artist. He loved music, the outdoors, fishing and his Tattoo family.
Survivors include his parents, Daniel Peace and Sherry Fulmer; a brother, Christian Horne, North Augusta; maternal grandparents, Charles and Faye Fulmer, North Augusta and Liz McDaniel, Burnsville, N.C.; paternal grandparents, LeDan & Jennie Peace, Evans; maternal great-grandfather, Pete Fulmer, Belvedere; three uncles, Jerry Fulmer, Andy Franklin and Noel Peace; and an aunt, NaDina Thompson.

Lether Walker Swearingen
Funeral services for Lether Walker Swearingen, of Edgefield, were held Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Edgefield. Brother Freddie Stone officiated.
She was survived by three children, Ruthie S. Weaver, MD, Doris (Jackie) Lilley, Chester, and Leroy Walker, Johnston; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Ruby Matheny Holmes
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Matheny Holmes, 83, of Johnston, were held Friday, May 15, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Saluda Baptist Church. Burial was in Bethlehem Methodist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Holmes, a native of Johnston, died Tuesday, May 12, at Edgefield County Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Lila Mae Holland Matheny. She was a member of Saluda Baptist Church and the Ladies IV Sunday School Class, a former Sunday School teacher and a volunteer at Saluda Nursing Home for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Harvey Smith Holmes Sr.; a daughter, Elizabeth H. Sauls, Lexington; Patricia H. Wannamaker (D.T.), Saluda; sons, H. Smith Holmes Jr. (Lila), Johnston, Jerry M. Holmes, Saluda; daughter-in –law, Mary H., Johnston; sisters, Perrine M. Matthews, Rockmart, Ga., Helen M. Holmes, Johnston; a brother, Jack Matheny (Willie Mae), Johnston; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Holmes.

Jesse J. Turner
Mr. Jesse J. Turner, 91, of Edgefield, husband of the late Mary McGee Turner, died Friday, May 8, 2009 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield First Baptist Church with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park with military honors.
Mr. Turner was born in Trenton and was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. He was a retired service manager for Pendarvis Chevy-Olds. He was a veteran of World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a Master Mason and was a member of the Hezzie Griffis American Legion Post #30.
Survivors include his daughter, Ann (George) Long, Woodland Park, Colo.; three grandchildren, David, Peter and Caroline.

Joe Poue Jr.
Mr. Joe Poue Jr., 65, of Winder, Ga., died Monday, May 4, 2009. He was the husband of Louise Williams Poue.
A Memorial Service was held Saturday, May 9, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, Ga., with Mr. Joe Scibetta officiating. He was cremated.
Mr. Poue was born April 22, 1934 to Joe Roland Poue and his wife Carrie in Edgefield County.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sons and daughters, Thomas H. Pough Sr. and wife Magnolia, Clifford Pough Sr. and wife Sallie, Jandon Pough I and wife Brenda, Danice Mathis and husband Mark, Jimmy L. Pough and Roscoe Pough Sr. and wife Josephine, Abigail Morris, Vinson Morris and wife Vickie, Joanne Morris, Brenda Wiggins and husband Jessie and McKenley Williams; a sister, Salina Mitchell, Aiken; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a large number of Grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three daughters, Ollie Mae Hopkins (Raymond), Bessie Louise Mathis (Johnny) and Yvonne Pough.
Elise Herlong Horne
Mrs. Elise Herlong Horne, 99, died Monday, May 4, 2009. She was the widow of Ronald Horne and Homer P. Herlong.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial was in Ridge Spring cemetery.
Mrs. Horne was born Sept. 8, 1909 and was the daughter of the late John W. (King) and Emma Willis Franklin. A native of Edgefield County, she was a 1931 graduate of Columbia College and was a former teacher in the public schools of South Carolina for 35 years. She spent the majority of her teaching career at North Aiken Elementary and had a passion for teaching and learning. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Ridge Garden Club and Ridge Study Club. She was also a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she was involved in various activities.
Survivors include a son, Dr. H. Franklin Herlong, Baltimore, Md; a daughter, Sylvia Herlong Kelly-Stone and husband Donald Stone, Ridge Spring; three grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon Kelly Dubose (Brian), Ridge Spring-Monetta, John B. Kelly (Jenny), Johnston, Leigh Kelly Sloan (Jay), Edgefield; and six great-grandchildren, Chandler Corley, Hunter and Carter Dubose, Trey and Drew Sloan and Grace Kelly.
She was predeceased by a brother J. Broadus Franklin, Johnston.

Warren Patten
Mr. Warren Patten, devoted father of Gregory Patten, died Wednesday April 8th in Boston.
He was the beloved son of Juanita and Eugene Patten and loving brother of Wallace Patten, Delores Jackson, Geneva Simms and Mamie Harris.
He also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday were held on Tuesday, April 14th at Davis Funeral home in Roxbury, Ma. Visitation at 10am at funeral home. Interment was at Mt. Hope cemetery.
Mary Oliphant Weaver
Mrs. Mary Oliphant Weaver, 68, of Crest Road in Edgefield, died Sunday, April 5, at Ascension Hospice House in Irmo.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. S.K. Lewis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Weaver, a native of Edgefield County, was a retired educator. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Benedict College in Columbia. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Josephine O. (William) Richardson, Columbia; a niece, Jacinta (Elijah) Bazemore; two nephews, Daryl (Charmaine) Richardson and Albert Oliphant Jr.; and a host of other relatives.

Sybil Sharp Erwin
Mrs. Sybil Sharp Erwin, 94, of Circle Street in Edgefield, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Graveside services were held Thursday, April 9, at 2 p.m. at Eastview cemetery.
Mrs. Erwin was born in Abbeville County. She was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church and was retired from Kendall Company.
Survivors include a son, Sonny (Rose) Erwin; a daughter, Nancy (Marvin) English, both of Edgefield; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Donald 'Don' Bullock
Mr. Donald “Don” Bullock, 72, of Orchard Way in North Augusta, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009 at his residence.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church cemetery in Edgefield.
Mr. Bullock was born in Pennsylvania and was of the Baptist faith. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and he was a retired investigator with the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office.
Survivors include a son, David Bullock, Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Earl “Bud” Bullock, Zephyr Hills, Fla.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild.

Thomasina Bouknight
Mrs. Thomasina Bouknight, 93, of Lincoln Avenue in Aiken, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2009 in Myrtle Beach.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. at Shaws Creek Baptist Church, Trenton, with the Rev. R.C. Holloway officiating. Burial was in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bouknight was a member of Shaws Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sanctuary Choir, Deaconess Board, Pastors Aide Club and the Missionary Society.
She also was a member of National Education Association, Bettis Academy Heritage Preservation Team, president of Edgefield County Teachers Association and a volunteer at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include her husband, Andrew R. Bouknight; two daughters, Jacqueline (Richard) Rose, Atlanta, Ga., and Zanthia(Randall) Hazel, Aiken; a brother, Hickman Holmes Sr., Dingsman Ferry, Pa.; two grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Juliet P. Lofton
Juliet Pemble Lofton, age 86, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at UNI Health of Aiken.
born in McClellanville, SC, she was a daughter of the late James A. and Caroline Stroman. Ms. Lofton earned a bachelor’s degree from Winthrop College and attended Yale University and the Medical University of South Carolina.
She completed anesthesiology school in the US Army, then served as an army nurse anesthetist in the European Theater in World War II, in Korea, and in Viet Nam. She retired in 1973 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Ms. Lofton is survived by twelve nieces and nephews and many cousins in McClellanville, Mount Pleasant and Charleston. She leaves behind a dear friend, Lonnie De Maria, of Red Bank, New Jersey.
She was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters: Elizabeth Hay, of Wadmalaw Island, James Lofton, Jr, of Charleston, Paul S. Lofton, Ninety Six, Susan Watson, Johnston, Harry Lofton, Honolulu, and Samuel A Lofton of Augusta, Ga.
Graveside services will be held in McClellanville United Methodist Church cemetery, McClellanville, on Saturday, September 5 at 2 o’clock.

Jeffrey M. Daniels
Mr. Jeffrey M. “Jeff” Daniels, 46, of Country Place Road, husband of Natalia Winn Daniels, died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Edgefield First Baptist Church with Reverend Stacy Williams and Dr. Tony Hopkins officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield with Highway Patrol honors.
Mr. Daniels was a native of McCormick County and the son of Mrs. Doris West Daniels. He was a member of McCormick United Methodist Church and attended Edgefield First Baptist Church. He graduated with an associate degree from Piedmont Technical College and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Jeff was a Retired Trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. He served as a baseball coach for Edgefield Dixie Youth Baseball for several years and worked for Winn Construction.
Survivors include his wife, son - Seth Daniels and daughter - Averie Daniels of the home, his mother of McCormick, four brothers - Joe (Marcia) Daniels, Stafford, Va., John Daniels, James (Debbie) Daniels, Jay (Cheryl) Daniels, all of McCormick. He was predeceased by his father, John Thomas Daniels, Jr.
