Essie B. Adams
Mrs. Essie B. Adams, 87, of North Augusta, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Young Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. G.L. Brightharp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Adams, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Young Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Bertha (Horace) Daniels, North Augusta; a brother, Walter Bennett, Augusta, Ga.; a grandchild, Sonya D. Butler; a great-grandchild, James D. Butler; an aunt, Nonia Crafton, North Augusta.; two godchildren, Maxine (Larry) Jefferson, Graniteville, and Teddy (Bernice) Crafton Jr., Augusta, Ga.; and host of other relatives.

Philip Albert Brousseau Sr.
Mr. Philip Albert Brousseau Sr., 97, of Edgefield, World War II veteran and professional bird dog trainer, died Thursday, Sept. 17, at his residence.
The family received visitors at his home on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Mr. Brousseau was born in Attleboro, Mass., and moved to Kline, S.C. around 1938. There, he professionally trained bird dogs and began competing in field trials until he was drafted into the Army in 1941. he served in the 753rd Tank Battallion, Company B, as a platoon sergeant, fought in Sicily, Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Southern France and Rhine Land, and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal.
After the war, he returned to his bird dog training in Kline. He married
Phyllis Preston of Massachusetts in 1948. For many years, he spent summers on the prairies of Saskatchewan training his dogs, and then competing in the major circuit field trials in the fall and winter. He achieved a great deal of success in the bird dog profession, and during the early 1960s, was considered to be one of the top bird dog trainers in the United States.
He developed four champions, two amateur champions, and many other top winning dogs through the years. In the late 1960s, he moved to Edgefield and joined the Savannah River Valley Beagle Club in Edgefield, and had four beagle champions and other winning dogs. He stayed active with his dogs well into his eighties.
He was named Sportsman of the Year by the Augusta Chronicle in 1962, named to the S.C. Field Trial Hall of Fame in 2001, was awarded a Life Patron Membership to the Bird Dog Foundation, and has been featured in The American Field, South Carolina Wildlife, and many other newspapers.
He is survived by his son Philip and daughter-in-law Sheryl; stepdaughter, Linda Blair; three grandchildren, Adrian Brousseau, Rebecca Joye and Alyce Golderer; three great-grandchildren, Christian and Andrew Brousseau, and Alynah Brown; six sisters, Olive Prunier, Oxford, Mass., Fran Pimentel, Hampton Falls, N.H., Catherine Manning, Brentwood, N.H., Leona Waterman, Hooksett, N.H., Doris Brousseau, Wendall Depot, Mass., and Edna Bryan, Louiston, Maine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis; and four brothers, Omer, Louis, Lawrence and Earnest Brousseau.

Mrs. Lucy Williams Ashley, 93, of Trenton, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at Old Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ashley, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Old Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Blondie Young, Trenton; a sister, Annie White, Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, Henry (Pearl) Williams, North Augusta, and Louis Williams, Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Minnie Mae Watson Attaway
Mrs. Minnie Mae Watson Attaway, 81, of Daniel Avenue in Johnston, widow of M.C. Attaway, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
born in Saluda County, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Mattie Lee Richardson. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, the WHAS #41, and was a retired employee of Milliken.
She is survived by three sons, Morris C. Attaway, Houston, Texas, Dexter L. Attaway, Dallas, Texas, and John F. Attaway, San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Bertha (George) Hammonds, Johnston, and Ida Mae Nicholson, Edgefield; brother, Morris Watson Jr., Saluda; two sisters, Annie R. Townsend, Washington, D.C. and Nora Bell Robinson, Saluda; two granddaughters reared in the home, Teresa Attaway and MeLinda Attaway, both of Aiken; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Deloris Edwards Adams
Funeral services for Mrs. Deloris Edwards Adams, 87, of Roland Avenue in Johnston, who died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, were conducted Friday, Oct. 2, at 11 a.m. at Johnston First Baptist Church.
The Rev. Thomas Barwick and Dr. Charles Hattaway officiated. Burial was in Mt. of Olives cemetery.
Mrs. Adams was the wife of the late William Clay Adams Jr. and was preceded in death by her parents, James Martin Edwards Sr. and Mary Sawyer Edwards. She was born April 23, 1922 and was a graduate of Johnston High School and Furman University.
She was a lifelong resident of Johnston. She worked for many years with her brother James M. Edwards Jr. at Edwards Insurance Agency which was founded by their father. She was a dedicated member of Johnston First Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Barry Adams and wife Sara, Aiken, Mart Adams and wife Ann, Johnston; a daughter, Betsy Cooper and husband Curtis, Cayce; grandchildren, Clay Adams and wife Jesse, Aiken, Katie Pardue and husband Mitch, Johnston, Ashley Cooper, Charleston, April Adams, Augusta, Ga., Whitney Cooper, Charleston, and Joy Smith, Johnston; great grandchild, James Smith, Johnston; brother, James M. Edwards Jr. and wife Margaret, Johnston; five nieces and nephews and their spouses.

Realor Dubose Bright
Mrs. Realor Dubose Bright, 90, of Trenton, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010 at Amara Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 16, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church, with the Rev. G.L. Brightharp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bright, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Young Macedonia Baptist Church where she served on the deaconess ministry.

Robert Kenneth Busch
Mr. Robert Kenneth Busch, 76, formerly of Phenix City, Ala., died Dec. 30, 2009 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Okla. He had been a resident of the Lawton/Fort Sill Veterans Center, Lawton, Okla., since August 2004.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at Fort Mitchell National cemetery, Fort Mitchell, Ala.
Mr. Busch was born May 29, 1933 in Athersville, Ill., to Alvin and Millie Busch. On Oct. 25, 1963, in Bessemer, Ala., he married
Virginia Spivey Davis, and they were married
until her death in 2006. A career soldier and a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Beret), SGM Busch retired honorably in 1977 at the highest enlisted rank achievable in the U.S. Army and the recipient of two Bronze Stars with “V” for Valor. He later retired from Prudential Insurance and was a lifetime member of the Phenix City chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his sons, Mike Davis and wife Sharon, of Duncan, Okla., and Robert K. Busch II and wife Ronda of Dothan, Ala; and grandson, Jason Davis of Columbus, Ga.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Busch is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rose Hastie; his mother-in-law, Louise Spivey; and his beloved poodle, Daisy Busch.

Mr. Johnnie Greene, 77, of Dew Drop Inn Road in Clarks Hill, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010 at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Mr. Greene, a native of McCormick County, was a member and deacon of Hosannah Baptist Church.

Victor R. Hallman
Mr. Victor R. Hallman, 84, of Grovetown, Ga., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at Spann United Methodist Church cemetery in Ward, with Pastor Matthew S. Lash officiating.
Mr. Hallman was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in the 79th Infantry Division. He was also a federal employee working at the Commissary at Fort Gordon. He was a lifetime member and a 32 degree Mason at the Masonic Lodge in Johnston and he was a member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple. He was a charter member of Advent Lutheran Church.
Mr. Hallman is survived by his wife, Mary F. Hallman; a daughter, Olivia Gynn (Jim) Carraway, Columbia; a son, V. Steve (Geneva) Hallman, Martinez, Ga.; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; a three cousins.

Robert Daniel “Bob” Perry Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Robert Daniel “Bob” Perry Sr., 89, of Curtis Drive in North Augusta, who died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, were conducted Thursday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. at North Augusta Southern Methodist Church. The Rev. H.B. Johnston officiated. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.
Mr. Perry was a native of Taylors, Penn., having made North Augusta his home for the past 60 years. He was a founding member of the former Epworth Southern Methodist Church which later became North Augusta Southern Methodist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the Philippines, and a retired salesman with Colgate-Palmolive with 36 years of service. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Esther G. Perry and a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps located in the Petrified Forest in Arizona.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Linda Perry, North Augusta, Van and Nelle Perry, Edgefield, and Kent and Joan Perry, North Augusta; seven grandchildren, Natalie Umberger, Ashley Fulmer, Alex Perry, Emily Perry, Stephen Perry, Christopher Perry and Lauren Perry; three great-grandchildren, Carson Umbarger, Collin Umbarger and Andilyn Banks; three step-grandchildren and their spouses, Bryan and Jill Paul, Danielle and Robert Welsh and Brent Paul.

Mrs. Anna Louise Mobley Swearingen, of Johnston, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.
A graveside service was held at Mount of Olives cemetery in Johnston on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 1:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Thomas D. Barwick of Johnston First Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member.
born in Johnston, where she lived most of her life, she was the daughter of Edwin Ruthvin Mobley and Jessie Gomillion Mobley.
She is survived by her daughter, Anna Louise Swearingen, of Charleston; her son, Jesse Monroe (Charlotte) Swearingen, Jr., of Columbia; her grandchildren, Jesse Monroe (Denise)Swearingen, III, Laura Swearingen (Richard) Jackson, and Jennifer McLeod Swearingen; and five great-grandchildren, Jesse Monroe Swearingen, IV, John Scott Swearingen, Avery Lynn Swearingen, Matthew Richard Jackson and Anna Elizabeth Jackson. She is also survived by her nieces, Anne S. Smith, Jayne Mobley Rainsford, Candice Mobley Steudtel; and her nephews, James E. Mobley Jr., and Michael W. Swearingen.
