Betty Paxton Teaster
Mrs. Betty Paxton Teaster, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2009.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kelly Lee Gallamore. She gave the greatest gift to medicine by offering her body to University of South Carolina Medical College for research and studies.
Mrs. Teaster was the daughter of the late Lavenia H. Robinson and stepfather Furman Robinson. A graduate of Pacolet High School, Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and Medical College of Georgia, she continued her studies at Southern Tech. She served as assistant principal for the Magnet School of Augusta, Ga. She sponsored a golf tournament that benefitted the golf team of Strom Thurmond High School. She won many awards through the Pacolet Connection and was a member of Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Teaster; sons, David Paxton and wife Marinell of Ellajay, Ga., James Paxton and wife Kerry of Marietta, Ga., and John Paxton of Edgefield; stepdaughters, Gail Wood and husband Judge Henry Wood of Rock Hill, Paula Teaster of Pacolet, Marsha and husband Frank Hood of Whitestone; a sister, Peggy Martin of Spartanburg; a special niece, Julia and husband Donald Cashion, M.D., children Alexandra and Caroline of Virginia Beach, Va.; an aunt, Georgetta Dawson of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Melanie, Brian, Ashley, James Jr., Peyton and Debra; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Pat Paxton.

Patrick Andrews
Mr. Patrick Andrews, 47, of North Augusta, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Mike Hatfield and Brandon Lanier officiating. Burial was in Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Edgefield.
Mr. Andrews was a mechanic at International Paper and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
He is survived by two daughters, Whitney LeeAnn Andrews, Augusta, and Lindsey Elizabeth Ferguson and husband Wesley, North Augusta; a son, Patrick Edward Andrews, Augusta; his significant other, Kiz Malpass, North Augusta; five brothers, Michael Andrews, New York, David Andrews, New York, Stephen Andrews, North Carolina, William Andrews, North Carolina, and Robert Andrews, Georgia; three sisters, Rosemary Walsak, North Carolina, Laurie Warner, North Carolina, and Jeanne Marie Andrews, New York; three grandchildren, Makenzie Taylor Andrews, Rydley Houston Andrews and Nataley Brooks Ferguson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cathy Andrews and Deborah Dean.

Mr. Willie Randy Brooks, of Ridge Spring, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. at Ridge Hill Baptist Church in Ridge Spring. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Herman O. Drummond
Funeral services for Mr. Herman O. Drummond, 89, of North Augusta, who died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at Posey Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Paul W. Noe officiated. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Mr. Drummond was a lifelong resident of North Augusta and was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Site.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, iris Hendrix Drummond; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry O. Drummond, Monette, Ark., and Andy and Debi Drummond, North Augusta; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Mark Grego, Johns Island; a sister, Dorothy “Dot” Lewis, Aiken; three grandchildren, Bryan (Ann) Drummond, Keli (Brad) Hopkins, Kim (Gerry) Saggus; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Lucy Frances Lanham Duford
Mrs. Lucy Frances Lanham Duford, 87, of Edgefield, wife of the late Raymond Duford Sr., died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Republican Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Duford was born in Augusta, Ga. and was a member of Republican Baptist Church where she served as the organist for a number of years. She was a graduate of Edgefield High School and attended Winthrop College. She was a retired secretary for the head of the Radiology Department at the Medical College of Georgia.
Survivors include a son, Raymond (Eva Loretha) Duford Jr., Edgefield; a sister, Mary Anne (Sam) Hair, Johnston; three grandchildren, Tony M. Duford, Angela Edwards and Susan Kneece; and five great-grandchildren.

Ruth G. Hyler
Mrs. Ruth G. Hyler, 85, of Saluda, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at Saluda Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church.
born Jan. 29, 1924, Mrs. Hyler was the daughter of the late Gene and Eunice Griffin Goodman. She was retired from the manufacturing industry and was a member of Behany United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Raye Hyler Parrish, Johnston; her son, Carroll Lee Hyler, Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oris Hyler, and her son, Charles E. Hyler.

Jerry T. Merriweather
Mr. Jerry T. Merriweather, 91, of Bransford Road in North Augusta, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, with the Rev. Charles E. Goodman Jr. officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Merriweather, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served on the deacons ministry and male chorus ministry. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retiree of the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Cook Merriweather; a son, Daryl Q. Merriweather and daughter-in-law, Yvette Fuller Merriweather; three grandchildren, Danica Meriweather, Daryl Q. Merriweather II, and Davina Merriweather; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Eustace Merriweather; two sisters, Georgia Pugh (James) and Estelle Dixon; three brothers, Frank Merriweather (Barbara), Lawrence Merriweather (Ella), and Joe Merriweather (Jeanette); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Mrs. Ethel James Wiley, 92, of Kitson Street in Ninety Six and formerly of Durst Avenue in Greenwood, widow of Fred Wiley, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.

born in Abbeville, she was a daughter of the late John and Paughnee Grant James. She was a graduate of Ninety Six High School and was employed by Town & Country Real Estate. She was a member of Lowell Street United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Surviving are two grandchildren, Wiley Free, Greenwood, and Dana Free Kaltz and her husband Kurt, Edgefield; two great-grandchildren, Kenneth James Kaltz and Kay Wiley Kaltz; a sister, Hazel Porter, Ninety Six; and her son-in-law, George “Bubber” Free, Greer.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kay Wiley Free, and a sister, Thelma Knox.

Mr. Robert Coates, 51, of Jeter Street in Edgefield, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Lybrand, a native of Aiken County, died Saturday, Nov. 28 She was a daughter of the late Fletcher and Mary Deaton Friar. She was a former member of the Dogwood Garden Club and the Eastern Star and was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where she attended the Adult Sunday School Class and the Johnston Long Branch Circle.
Survivors include her husband, Rufus Lybrand Sr.; a son, the Rev. Rufus “Rammy” E. Lybrand Jr. (Jackie) of Fort Mill; a daughter, Sandra K. Lybrand of Columbia; grandchildren, Mauri (Rob) Moser and Brett (Meg) Lybrand; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Naomi Moser.

Mrs. Myrtis M. Patten Williams, 78, of Walnut Street in Edgefield, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 in North Augusta at the residence of her daughter.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Jasper Lloyd officiating. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Williams, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Jeter Baptist Church and worked faithfully with Simmon Ridge Baptist Church.

Roy L. Butler Sr.
Funeral Services for Mr. Roy L. Butler, Sr., 82, of West Columbia, were held Friday, July 22, 2011 at Johnston First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial followed in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Johnston.
Mr. Butler, a native of West Columbia, died Monday, July 18. He was the son of the late Clyde A. and Nell Workman Butler. Mr. Butler was owner of Butler Laser and a pioneer in the construction laser business. He held seven U.S. patents for his innovative ideas, and his products are used around the world. However, his greatest accomplishment was love of family. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia, and served in the South Carolina National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Claudine Kirkland Butler; sons, Roy Jr. (Lisa), Kevin, Darrin (Shelly), Jordan Butler; daughters, Denise Pilgrim, Janine Bundrick; grandchildren, Mark Bundrick, Rhett Pilgrim, Scarlett Pilgrim, Melanie Pilgrim, Matthew Bundrick, Rachel Robinson, Austin Pilgrim, Mikayla Frye; a great-grandchild, Leighton Pilgrim; a brother, Thomas Butler; sisters, Bernice Bush and Marsha Yonce.
