Clarence Ray “Bobby” Ferguson
Mr. Clarence Ray “Bobby” Ferguson, 59, of Deer Trail Point in North Augusta, died Monday, April 25, 2011. A private family memorial service will be held.
Mr. Ferguson was a native of Justice, W. Va., having made North Augusta his home for the past 28 years. He was the son of the late Mr. Ray Jimmy Ferguson.
Survivors include his mother, Nina Ferguson, North Augusta; a sister and her husband, Judy and Tim Salmons, North Augusta; a niece and her husband, Tammye and Gene Quarles; a nephew, Barry Salmons; three great-nieces, Mary Quarles, Kathy Quarles and MaKenzie Quarles.

Mrs. Alice Freeman, of Johnston, died Friday, April 22, 2011.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at Monetta Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Lena Freeman, Beatrice Fuller, and Theresa Burton; two sons, the Rev. Dr. James Freeman Jr. and Johnny Freeman; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four brothers, John Williams, Warren Williams, Willie Williams and Norman Williams.

Mrs. Rosa A. Griffin, of Clarks Hill, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Clarks Hill. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Linda Harriet Morgan
Ms. Linda Harriet Morgan, 64, of Morgan Bussey Road in Edgefield, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 in Edgefield.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at Gilgal Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Ms. Morgan was a native of Edgefield and was the daughter of Sam O. and the late Doris Davis Morgan. She was a member of Gilgal Baptist Church. She was a pianist and a retired x-ray technician.
Survivors include her father, Sam O. Morgan; two sisters, Frances Altman, Gray, Ga., Elaine Abbott, Wauchula, Fla.; three brothers, Steve Jones, Savannah, Ga., Jerry Morgan and Bruce Morgan, both of Edgefield.

Dr. Chester R. Phillips
Dr. Chester Phillips, 89, of Timothy Crossing Court in North Augusta, died Saturday, April 23, 2011, after serving as a minister of the gospel for over 40 years.
His funeral service was held Tuesday, April 26, at 2 p.m. at Sweetwater Baptist Church, with Dr. Paul Noe officiating. He was buried in the Sweetwater Baptist Church cemetery. Dr. Phillips' six grandsons, Nick, Tyler, Zack, Logan, Chet and Vince Phillips, served as pallbearers.
Before moving to South Carolina, Dr. Phillips served long-term pastorates in North Carolina and Tennessee. He retired from pastoring churches in 1991. Dr. Phillips, a native of North Carolina, received his early education in Durham. He graduated from Bob Jones University in 1954. During World War II, he served two and a half years overseas in the European Theater as a medic in the Army Air Force.
For 68 years, he was married
to Dorothy Phillips, a former high school teacher. He was the father of three children, Cindy (deceased), Dean Phillips of Topsail Island, N.C., and Kent Phillips of North Augusta. He had seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Samuel Oscar “Sam” Morgan Jr. (with pic, e-mailed)
Mr. Samuel Oscar “Sam” Morgan Jr., 94, of Morgan-Bussey Road in Edgefield, died at the Edgefield County Hospital on Friday, July 22, 2011 after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at Gilgal Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, with burial in the church cemetery.
He was the widower of the late Doris June Davis Morgan. He was born July 12, 1917 in Modoc, son of the late Samuel Oscar Morgan Sr., and the late Hettie Lou Bussey Morgan. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service after many years as a mail carrier. He had a real love for his family history, and was a very reliable, conscientious researcher and he made many travels over the years to Texas, Missouri, and other far-off places following his leads. He was looked to for guidance by many researchers of families from this area, since he was considered a walking history book of old Edgefield County. He surveyed the family cemeteries of this area and his surveys are considered standard reference guides by researchers. He was a charter member of the Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society and was still, at age 94, an active researcher. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Letter Carrier’s Association. He was the senior member of Gilgal Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and had served as treasurer for over 30 years.
He is survived by his sons, Bruce Jennings Morgan and Jerry Wayne Morgan (Mickey) of Edgefield; three grandchildren, Brian (Frances), Patrick (Christie), and Nick (Rosa) Morgan of Edgefield; three step-children, Frances Altman, Gray, Ga., Elaine Abbott, Wauchula, Fla., Steve Jones, Savannah, Ga.; 11 great-grand children; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Harriet Morgan, and his sister, Martha Edna Morgan Boyer.

Ralph Talmadge Smalley
Mr. Ralph Talmadge Smalley, 91, of Modoc, died Tuesday, July 19, 2011.
Graveside services were held Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m. at Modoc Baptist cemetery. Mr. Smalley was a resident of Modoc. He was retired from Murray Biscuit Company. He was the son of the late Horace and Julie Whitener Smalley. Mr. Smalley was married
to the late Sarah Howle Smalley. He was the oldest living member of the Modoc Baptist Church where he was a former deacon.
Survivors include his brother, John D. Smalley of Aiken; four sisters, Ruby S. Howle of Augusta, Ga., Annie S Doolittle of Edgefield, Sarah Milford of Martinez, Ga., and Virginia Randall of Modoc.
Harmon Bertis Ouzts
Services for Mr. Harmon Bertis Ouzts, 73, of Johnston, were held Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church cemetery.
Mr. Ouzts, a native of Edgefield County, died Thursday, Nov. 26. He was a son of the late Alma Bertis and Mary Gregory Ouzts. He retired after 44 years with the South Carolina National Guard and 20 years as a federal technician with the National Guard. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Wilson Ouzts; daughters, Sandra (Larry) Cockrell and Wanda (Marvin) Long-Cromer; a sister, Marjorie (Harold) Butler; grandchildren, Stephanie and Stacy Scoggins, Mitchell, Brandon and Britt Long and Christopher and Paul James Cockrell; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gregory Roney, 52, of Edgefield, died Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Republican Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Patten Jr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Roney, a native of Edgefield, was a member of Republican Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Tylee Rutledge, Virginia Beach, Va., Markay Barnes, Columbia, Gregory Moore and Jimel Moore, both of Edgefield; his mother, Elsie Louise Inniss Edgefield; his mother, Elsie Louise Inniss, Edgefield; four grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Mr. Young was a retired logger.

Mrs. Olivia Johnson Dobey, 92, of Washington, D.C., died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009.

Ms. Patricia Ann Hammond, 50, of UniHealth Center, formerly of James Town Court in Aiken, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009.

Mrs. Harrison, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Mt. Alpha Baptist Church.
