Mrs. Dorothy Bussey Houston, 77, of Rainbow Falls Road in North Augusta, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church at Clarks Hill, with the pastor, Rev. Winston Oliphant, officiating and Delbert Nero, eulogist. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Houston, a native of McCormick County, was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Doris Houston, North Augusta; three daughters, Dianne (Eugene) Williams, Belvedere, Silenda Leakes, North Augusta, and Doris (Carlos) Ruiz, Hephzibah, Ga.; four sons, Carl (Bernice) Houston, Gerald (Mamie) Houston, North Augusta, Sylvester (Betty) Houston, Hephzibah, Ga., and Ira (Gilda) Houston, Albany, Ga.; four sisters, Rubenia (Harvest) Hammond, North Augusta, Elizabeth Thomas, Margaret (Alex) Pope, Augusta, Ga., and Juanita (Roosevelt) Walker, Hephzibah, Ga.; two brothers, Bettis Bussey Jr., Belvedere, and the Rev. Johnnie (Retha) Bussey, Augusta, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Garrett, North Augusta, and Bessie Houston, Clarks Hill; five brothers-in-law, Joe Lewis (Louise) Houston, George (Irene) Houston, Thelmond (Debra) Houston, Clarks Hill, Willie (Elizabeth) Houston, Evena, Ga., Clarence Houston, Philadelphia, Pa.; and a host of other relatives.
Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Dianne Williams, 131 Teresa Avenue, Belvedere.

Mamie Beatrice LaBord
Mrs. Mamie Beatrice LaBord, of Finley Extension in North Augusta, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at Old Macedonia Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert L. LaBord officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. LaBord, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Old Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Marie Griffen and Bernice (Robert) Adams, North Augusta, Mary (Primus) Sims and Frances (Charles) Sims, Columbia, and Cassandra (Bobby) Elam, Belvedere; four sons, Willie C. LaBord Jr., the Rev. Robert (Elise) LaBord, and Ronnie LaBord, North Augusta, and Ollie J. (Martha) LaBord, Atlanta, Ga.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Debbie Cobb Smith
Mrs. Debbie Cobb Smith, 49, of Warrenville, wife of Lester Smith and daughter of Leila Hancock Shaw, Grovetown, Ga. and the late Jesse Cobb Jr., died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Thursday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel, Langley, with Pastor Wade Everett officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville.
born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, she was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith and attended Langley United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening, shopping and prior to her health declining, riding her 98 Sportster.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her children, David Yopp, North Augusta, Christopher Yopp (Samantha Mawby), Clearwater, and Ashley Hofstra (Zach), Edgefield; three grandchildren, Sophie Hofstra, Devin Rolland and Jaida Rolland; a brother, Danny Cobb (Patricia Burke), Edgefield; a nephew, Barry Smith Jr., North Augusta; and a lifelong friend who was more like a sister, Lisa Smith (Barry), North Augusta.
Memorials may be made to Langley United Methodist Church.

Marian Beck Spears
Mrs. Marian Beck Spears, 83, of Arch Drive in North Augusta, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Paul Noe officiating. A graveside service followed in Westview cemetery.
Mrs. Spears attended Sweetwater Baptist Church in Edgefield County and retired from C&S Bank.
Survivors include three sons, John B. Spears Jr., Ed Spears (Susan), and Phillip Spears (Susan); a sister, Maxine B. Mixon; an aunt, Minnie Hallman; two grandchildren, Travis E. Spears and Avery Spears-Mahoney (Michael); and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Berry Spears Sr.
Memorials may be made to Sweetwater Baptist Church, 198 Sweetwater Road, North Augusta, SC 29860.

Christine Hall McKie
Mrs. Christine Hall McKie, 72, of Aiken, died Oct. 15, 2009 at National Healthcare.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at Old Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. Limuer Myers officiating.
Mrs. McKie, a native of Aiken County, was a member of Old Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Edward McKie, North Augusta; a son, Christopher McKie, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Jeremiah Hall, Graniteville; two sisters, Earnestine (James) Johnson and Evelyn (Joseph) Blocker, Trenton; two grandchildren, Taylor McKie, Little Rock, Ark., and Tasha Abney, Augusta, Ga.; one aunt, Mary Growdy, Auguta, Ga.; and a host of other relatives.

Rodney Bouknight
Funeral services for Mr. Rodney Bouknight, of Johnston, were held Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Mine Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. George Key, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Margaret Bouknight and Shelia Bouknight, both of the home; a niece; and many other relatives.

Lillie Mae Berry
Mrs. Lillie Mae Berry, 83, of Berry Farm Road in Trenton, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Berry was born in Wrightsville, Ga. and was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, John L. Berry Jr., North Augusta, Heyward P. (Pam) Berry, Monetta, Wayne E. (Jeana) Berry, Trenton; a daughter, Linda B. (Ronnie) Stone, Trenton; four sisters, Helen Duncan, Elsie Bedenbaugh, Ann McCarty, Dot Rodgers; two brothers, Paul Trotter and Ernest Trotter; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joe B. Bean
Mr. Joe B. Bean, 84, of Edgefield, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Oscar Brown officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
born in Edgefield County, he was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by loyal friend, Ora Mae Martin; stepchildren, Ophelia Valentine, Diane Martin Bledsoe Hoover Martin, Jeanette Martin and Willie Martin.; four brothers, Willie Bean, George Bean, Robert Bean, and Lovette Bean; two sisters, Cleora Gaskin and Lizzie Dobey; and other relatives.

Barbara Schultz Butler
Mrs. Barbara Schultz Butler, 74, of Jeter Street in Edgefield, died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Eastview cemetery.
Mrs. Butler was a native of Edgefield and was a member of Gilgal Baptist Church. She was the wife of the late Errett Butler. She was a retired secretary for Reel Insurance Agency with 40 years of service.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond (Lynn) Butler, Michael (Yvonne) Butler; two grandsons, Andrew and Bobby Butler; and four great-grandchildren.

Marcus Anthony Gilchrist
Mr. Marcus Anthony Gilchrist, 23, of Bittersweet Drive in Saluda, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 11, at 1 p.m. at Liberty Spring Baptist Church in Edgefield, conducted by the Rev. Henry Merriweather. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
born in Augusta, Ga., he is the son of Willie Gilchrist Jr. and Synetta Settles Gilchrist. He was a member of Liberty Spring Baptist Church and was employed by Eaton. He was a 2006 graduate of Strom Thurmond High School.
In addition to his father of Greenwood and his mother of McCormick, he is survived by his fiancée, Charnitica Holloway and his son, Kaleb Gilchrist of Saluda; his brother, Kelvin Settles, Allendale; his sister, Sheneque Gilchrist, McCormick; his maternal grandmother, Maggie Settles; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Gilchrist; paternal great-grandmother, Jessie Gilchrist, all of Edgefield; and other relatives.

Nadine Harris
Funeral services for Mrs. Nadine Harris, of Ridge Spring, were held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerome Coleman, pastor, officiating. Eulogist was the Rev. James A. Harris. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include sons, Elliott, Jr., Curtis (Jeanette), James (Tania), Steve and Daryl Harris; daughters, Emma Dean Schofield, Dorothy (Ricardo) Spaulding, Mary D. Harris, Brenda (Amin) Talib, Patrice (adopted daughter); sister, Mary (Arthur) Quarles, brother, Donnie Milhouse; 21 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ruth Pruitt. Mims
Mrs. Ruth Pruitt Mims, 89, of Edgefield, wife of the late Clyde Edward Mims Sr., died Sunday, May 8, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 11, at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mims was a native of Edgefield County and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was a retired textile worker and a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean M. Hughes, Edgefield, Joyce M. Cook, North Augusta; a son, Clyde Edward Mims Jr., Edgefield; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Mims was predeceased by a son, Tal Mims, and a great-great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1843 Hwy 23 West, Edgefield, SC 29824.

E. Don Whatley
Mr. E. Don Whatley, 83, of Wigfall Street in Edgefield, husband of Hazel Hammond Whatley, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, at 3 p.m. at Edgefield United Methodist Church, with burial in Eastview cemetery.
Mr. Whatley was a native of Edgefield and was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church. He was a retired lab technician for Star Fibers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Sandra (John) Ellis, Edgefield.
Memorials may be made to Edgefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 25, Edgefield, SC 29824.
