Storey, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at Self Regional Medical Center. born in McCormick, she was a daughter of the late Clayton and Mattie Sue Brown Butler. She was employed by Stone Manufacturing and was a member of South Greenwood Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she taught Missionettes Rainbows. Surviving are two daughters, Malisa Storey and Samantha Laye and her husband, Eddie; a sister, Eron May and a grandchild, all of Greenwood.

Pearl Walton Ransom, 87, of 426 Morgan Avenue, widow of Hubert R. Ransom, died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Emerald Gardens. born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Joel W. and Esther Evers Walton. She was employed by Greenwood Mills for more than 40 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club, and retired from Stanley Home Products, where she served as a representative and manager for 40 years. She was a volunteer with the Self Regional Hospital Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels and was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class, taught Sunday School, was an R.A. and Y.W.A. leader and was involved with outreach ministries to the shut-ins of the church. Surviving are two daughters, Jo Owings and her husband, Jon A., of Hodges and Kathy Ransom of Columbia; a son, Brad Hamilton of New Orleans; four grandchildren, Angela Nelson, Barry Hamilton, Bland Hamilton, Jr. and Blake Owings and 12 great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Esther Hamilton and a son, James Ransom.

Philip Alan Legge, 86, of 1110 Marshall Road, husband of Phyllis Mae Cooper Sitterly Legge, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 in Greenwood, SC. born in Urbana, OH, he was the first son of the late Harry Legge and Ruth Pearson Legge. Mr. Legge was a graduate of Urbana High School and received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the Case Institute of Technology. He worked in engineering management at the New York Airbrake Company in Watertown, NY and at Pesco Products Corporation in Cleveland, OH before taking the job of Assistant to the President at his alma mater, Case Institute in Cleveland. For 31 years, Mr. Legge served as Secretary of the Corporation at Case Institute, the first person to hold that position. In this capacity he worked closely with nine successive chairmen and six presidents of Case Institute of Technology and Case Western Reserve University. He retired in 1989 and was appointed Secretary Emeritus of the Corporation in that year. Mr. Legge also served as president of the Case Club of Cleveland, co-class agent for the “great” class of 1943 for 21 years and as a student advisor for a number of years. He was an active alumnus of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, serving as a chapter advisor for 19 years and where a scholarship fund was established in his name, still awarding monies to deserving students today. Mr. Legge was awarded the Case Institute of Technology Achievement Award in 1963 and the Case Alumni Association’s Meritorious Service Award in 1970. Mr. Legge served as a lieutenant in the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was a proud veteran of the Iwo Jima invasion and maintained contacts with the crew of his LSM ship throughout his life. He was a faithful member of the Hendersonville, NC Civitan Club and the University Club there that he helped found. In Greenwood, SC he was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church, and participated in the Trinity Sunday School Class. At his home in Wesley Commons, he loved the current events club and was an enthusiastic member of the locally well-known Kitchen Band. He was twice married
, first to the late Mary Alice Baker Legge. Surviving is his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Susan Campbell and her husband, William, of Charlottesville, VA; a son, Stephen Legge of Groton, MA; a stepdaughter, Karen Hoyt and her husband, Charlie, of Bellefontaine, OH; a stepson, Kurt Sitterly of Atlanta, GA; a brother, L. Norman Legge of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Scott Campbell and his wife, Heather, Mark Campbell and his wife, Jaime, Todd Campbell and his wife, Haley, Heather Meyer and her husband, Ross, and Jeffrey Legge; three step grandchildren; great grandchildren, Lauren, Katelyn, Grace, Catherine and Lindsey.

She was a member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. Surviving is her daughter, Rita Marie Creasman; two granddaughters, Teresa C. She was a graduate of Lander College, received her Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina and her EdS degree from Clemson University. Mrs. Macy was a teacher in Greenwood School District 50 and principal of Grenola School. She was a member of the Teacher’s Association and South Main Street Baptist Church. Surviving is a daughter, Janet Macy of Boston, MA; a son, Paul Martin Macy of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Neutrice Rush of Port Washington, NY; a brother, Carson Rush of Greenwood and step grandchildren, Anthony Macy of Greensboro, NC and Travis Lee Rush Macy of New York. She was preceded in death by sisters, Eunice Rush and Mayzelle Rush Vanadore and a brother, Jack Rush.

She was a graduate of Greenwood College of Commerce, a devoted homemaker and mother. Mrs. Coleman was the owner and operator of Blakedale Daylily Garden and a member of Woodfields Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister, Irene H. Hanley and a grandson, Tripp McDonald. Surviving are a son, Robert “Steve” Coleman and his wife, Renita, of Greenwood; two daughters, Linda Findley of Calhoun Falls and Cheryl Cobb and her husband, Perry, of Greenwood; a sister, Sue Murray and her husband, Odis, of Greenwood; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
