Elizabeth Gardner Wise
Mrs. Elizabeth Gardner Wise, 98, of Trenton, wife of the late Paul G. Wise, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m. at Edgefield First Baptist Church, with burial in Ebenezer cemetery in Trenton.
Mrs. Wise was a native of Edgefield County and was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church. She was a retired lunch room supervisor at Trenton School and was the owner of Wise Acres Peach Stand. She was also a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Miller Wise Jackson and her husband Clyde R. Jackson III, Trenton; three grandchildren, Clyde R. Jackson, IV, Lexington, Jan Hodges Burch and Paula Jackson Herz, both of Augusta; and two great-grandchildren, Nicole Christine Jackson and Sophie Kathryn Herz.
Mrs. Wise was predeceased by her brothe, Claude Shaw Gardner, and a sister, Annie Mae Wise.

Mr. Edward Joseph Carroll, of Danby Court in North Augusta, died Friday, March 19, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.

Ms. Beatrice Glover, 73, of Trenton, died Sunday, March 21, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Ms. Glover, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Science Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Terrie (Murdock) Frazier, Beverly (Calvin) Gilchrist, all from Trenton; two sons, Aaron (Delfuni) Glover, Saluda, Steven (Roberta) Glover, Columbia; three sisters, Annie Jefferson and Mary (Hayward) Bibbs, Trenton, Florence (Tommy) Miles, North Augusta; four brothers, Odell (Mildred) Glover and Albert Glover, Trenton, Tommy (Gloria) Glover, North Augusta, Jimmie (Annette) Glover, Aiken,; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie L. Gordon, 88, of Hwy. 378 East, Edgefield, were held Friday, March 19, 2010 at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, with the Rev. Melvin L. Gordon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Daniel M. “Danny” Hardee
Mr. Daniel M. “Danny” Hardee, 46, of Trenton, husband of 14 years to Paula Glisson Hardee and son of the late William Bryant and Ada Gertrude Pridgen Hardee, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at his home.
At his request, he was cremated and a memorial service to celebrate his life was held Thursday, March 18, at 3 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, with Pastor Michael Glisson, brother-in-law, officiating.
born in Augusta, Ga. and a resident of Clearwater most of his life, he moved to Trenton six months ago. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church, North Augusta, and prior to his health declining, he was a plumber. He enjoyed fishing, camping and watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Mark Martin. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, family members include a stepson, Anthony Medlock, Graniteville; brothers, Tim Hardee (Dixie), Spartanburg, and Michael Hardee, Grovetown, Ga.; special cousins who were more like sisters, Lena Baker, Edgefield, and Janet Arnold, North Augusta; and a special red-headed granddaughter, Symantha Medlock, who adored her Pappy.

Mr. Donald L. Middleton, 55, of W. Hugh Street, North Augusta, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, North Augusta, with the Rev. Ulysses Cummings officiating. Mr. Middleton, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Mealing Grove Baptist Church.

Shirley F. Padgett
Mrs. Shirley Franklin Padgett, 61, of Pinto Lane, Trenton, wife of Curtis W. Padgett, flew away into the heavens on March 8, 2010.
Graveside Services was held Thursday March 11, 2010 at 11 A.M. at the Padgett Family cemetery with Pastor Scott Franklin officiating.
Mrs. Padgett was born in Augusta, Ga. and was of the Baptist Faith. She was a Homemaker and was retired from the Edgefield County School District. There are not enough words to describe how amazing she will always be.
Survivors include her husband, one Daughter- Christie Morgan, Edgefield, two Sons- Milton Rivers, North Augusta, Warren Underwood, Trenton. One Sister- Billie Jean Crawford, Augusta, two Brothers- Kenneth Franklin, Warrenville, Pete Franklin Sr., Grovetown. two Grandchildren, Justin K. Morgan and Cameron Morgan.

Christopher Long
Graveside services for Christopher Edward Long, age 35, were held Monday, March 15, 2010 at 3pm at Mt of Olives cemetery, Johnston. The family will receive friends at the gravesite immediately following the service.
Mr. Long, a native of Ward, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Hospice House in Greenwood, SC. He was a son of Joel and Pam Long and was a member of Ward Baptist Church.
He is survived by his parents; son: Christopher K. Long of Waterloo, SC, sister Jessica A. Long; brother, Clifton J. Long (Angela), and grandmother: Jessie B. Long all of Ward. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Clark and Mr. Frank J. Long, all of Ward.

Mr. Ivory Dukes, 68, died on March 5, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. He was born in Edgefield County. Survivors include: wife, Julia Mae Dukes; children, Steven Dukes, Lynette Dukes, Barbara A. Twiggs, Sandra Dukes and Melanie Dukes; siblings, James Dukes, Jr., Thomas Dukes, Corine Simpkins, and Ann Jones; 15 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and other relatives. Funeral services were held on Wednesday March 10 at Pine Hill Baptist Church with a burial in the church cemetery.

Edward Kester Derrick
Funeral services for Mr. Edward Kester Derrick, 94, of Johnston, were held at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011 at 4 p.m., with burial in the church cemetery.
Mr. Derrick died Thursday, Aug. 4, at his home after an extended illness. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Helen Johnson Derrick. Mr. Derrick, a native of Edgefield County, was a son of the late Alvin Abner and Eliza Rhoden Derrick. He was a member of Mt Calvary Lutheran Church, where he had served on the Church Council and as president of the congregation. He was also a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class and The Lions Club of Johnston. He served on the Edgefield County Farm Bureau Board of Directors for many years and The Edgefield County Cattleman’s Association. Mr. Derrick was owner and operator of Derrick Farms and co-owner of Derrick and Yonce Grocery.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Joe (Miriam) of Johnston; grandchildren, Marsha Gantt (Greg) of Barnwell, Nancy Derrick of Norman, Okla. and Christopher Derrick of Johnston; great-grandchildren, Hampton and Kester Gantt of Barnwell; and also loyal and dedicated supporters through out the years, Lucille Talbert, Jack Jones, Buck Dublin and Clyde Clay.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Elijah Derrick and Bill Derrick; and sisters, Fannie Lybrand, Bessie Lott and Nell Jackson.

Martha Young Anderson
Mrs. Martha Young Anderson, 60, of Augusta Road in Edgefield, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at the Medical College of Georgia.
There will be a private memorial service held at a later date.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Spartanburg and attended Eureka First Baptist Church. She was retired from the Department of Juvenile Justice in Aiken County. She was an accomplished author and was the author of the book, "Stolen Innocence.”
Survivors include her husband, David Anderson, Augusta, Ga.; her mother, Emmie Young, Edgefield; a daughter, Kate Anderson, Edgefield; a son, Sean Anderson, Augusta; a grandson, Oliver Anderson; two brothers, Curtis Price, Columbia, and Fanning Young, Oklahoma.

Betty Rose Carroll
Mrs. Betty Rose Carroll, 64, wife of the late Eddie Carroll, of Blanche Drive in North Augusta, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Her Funeral Mass and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Monday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Peter Clarke as celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.
Survivors include five sons, Tommy Carroll, Jimmy Anthony Carroll, Eddie Joseph Carroll, Christopher Carroll and Johnny Michael Carroll; two daughters, Catherine Ann Sherlock and Mary Elizabeth Carroll; two brothers, Tommy Gorman and Bryan Gorman; and a sister, Catherine Ann Sherlock.

Rita Kirkland McKay
Rita Kirkland McKay, 55, of 13 Timberland Lane in Trenton, died Wednesday, Feb.16, 2011.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. at Ramey Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Bob Huggins and Pastor Ann Everett officiating. Burial followed in Emory United Methodist Church cemetery.
A native of Saluda County, she was the daughter of Reba Witt Wright and the late Virgil Alfred Kirkland. She was a former textile employee and a member of Faith Riders Fellowship Church.
Surviving are her parents, Ronny and Reba Witt Wright of Belvedere; two daughters and a son-in-law, Crystal Berry Gibson and Ian Gibson and Jeri Lynn Berry, all of Saluda; a sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Eddie Rowe of Saluda; a sister-in-law, Teri Kirkland of Greenville; and three granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kirkland.
