Johnnie “Shine” Thomas Jr.
Mr. Johnnie “Shine” Thomas Jr., 93, of W.A. Reel Drive in Edgefield, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at Jeter Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jasper Lloyd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Thomas, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Science Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Willie B. (Georgia) Thomas, Eddie Albert Thomas, and Willie (Sadie) Thomas, Edgefield, Johnnie (Eva) Thomas III, Trenton; two sisters, Fannie Tillman and Chaney Glanton, Edgefield; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Essie Cheatham and Susie Glover; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Dewey David Anderson
Mr. Dewey David Anderson, 59, of Edgefield, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Augusta, Ga.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Anderson was born in Richmond, Va. He was an Air Force veteran of Desert Storm. He was retired from the S.C. Department of Corrections.
Survivors include a daughter, Kate Anderson, Edgefield; a son, Sean Anderson, Augusta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Oliver Anderson and Emma June Anderson.

George Brown
Mr. George Brown, 58, of W.A. Reel Drive in Edgefield, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, at 2 p.m. at Republican Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jasper Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brown, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Republican Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Young Brown; a daughter, Shantell Brown, Edgefield; a sister, Johnnie Mae (Anthony) Simpkins, Columbia; three brothers, James (Jeanette) Brown, Edgefield, Gregory (Tracy) Brown, Charleston, and Charles (Tasha) Brown, Columbia; his grandmother, Emma Hill, Edgefield; three grandchildren, Shatori, Alexus Moore and Alexander Lee; aunts, Sarah Robinson, Annie Mae Oliphant, Edgefield, and Mattie Hubbard, Washington, D.C.; uncle, Willie (Annie) Hill, Edgefield; and a host of other relatives.

Bryce H. Canfield, 11, son of Shawn D. and Melissa Carbone Canfield, of Martinez, Ga., died Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at Westside Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Lehn officiating.

Elder Henry Leysath, 76, of UniHealth Nursing Home, formerly of 325 Haven Place, Johnston, died Monday, June 20, 2011. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 25, at 2 p.m. at United Church of God in Johnston, with Bishop Charles Booker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery in Ridge Spring.
Elder Leysath was a member of the Church of God in Johnston and was the Sunday School superintendent.
Survivors include four daughters, Eartha Frazier and Chris Bush, both of Aiken, Ella (Bishop Charles) Booker, Charlotte, N.C., and Betty Jean Adams, Clarksville, Tenn.; two sons, John (Sandra K.) Leysath, Aiken, and Ernest Leysath, Hephzibah, Ga.; a brother, Junior Leysath, Columbia; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Connie Quarles Miller
Mrs. Connie Quarles Miller, 66, of Miller Road in Edgefield, wife of Preston Lanham Miller Jr., died Saturday, June 25, 2011.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at Republican Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Quarles was a native of Edgefield County and was the daughter of the late Theo and Audrey Wood Quarles. She was a graduate of Strom Thurmond High School and Bolen’s Business School. She was a member of Republican Baptist Church and the church choir. She was also a member of the V.A. National Medical Music Group. She was retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
In addition to her husband, she was survived by a son, P.L. (Olyvia) Miller III; three grandchildren, Preston Miller IV, Mayson Miller and Payton Miller; a sister, Sylvia Q. (Bob) Sunshine; her mother-in-law, Lucile Miller; a brother-in-law, Lewis Miller; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Vonro Morgan, 60, of Moragne Street in Edgefield, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at his residence.

Mr. Morgan, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Thelma Stroud Banks Ouzts, of Edgefield, died Thursday, June 16, 2011.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at McCormick City cemetery on Highway 221 in McCormick.
Mrs. Ouzts was born in McCormick to the late Jim and Allie Stroud. She was a member of Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church. She also owned the County Line Country Store.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy Banks of Edgefield; her daughter Brenda and husband Ricky of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her brother, Henry Stroud of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Vernon, Pam and Tammie McCary; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands Raford Banks and John Ouzts, two daughters, and one son.

born in Saluda, County, a daughter of Leona Rodgers Wilson and the late Richard Cromer Wilson, she had retired as a bank teller from First Citizens Bank.
Surviving are her mother of Ward; a son, Stacy Lewis Busbee of Ward; three daughters, Melissa A. Busbee of Saluda, Michelle B. Drawdy of Lexington, and Rebecca L. Stone of Ward; a brother, Richard L. “Ricky” Wilson of Gilbert; nine grandchildren, Kristi, Nick, Cody, Anna, Emerick, Hayden, Owen, Noah and Dalton; and a great-grandchild, McKinley.

Mr. Ebbie Stevens, Jr., 57, of Saluda, died Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by Pastor Louis Burt. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A retired textile worker, he was born in Saluda County and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
He is survived by two sons, Ensenio Posey of Johnston and Trek Bryant of California; two sisters, Gladys S. Butler, Greensboro, N.C., and Edna Graham, Johnston; a special friend, Harriet Posey, Johnston; and other relatives.

Rosa Williams Wigfall
Mrs. Rosa Williams Wigfall, 88, of Edgefield, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 25, at noon at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary chapel, with the Rev. Cecelia Byrd officiating. Burial was in Simmon Ridge Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Wigfall, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Simmon Ridge Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Helen Stewart, Edgefield; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marion Erskine Thomas
The Rev. Marion Erskine Thomas, 83, of Liberty, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, at his residence. born in Lowell, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Nathalie Lawson Thomas.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Rev. Thomas will be conducted Wednesday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at Norris First Baptist Church, by the Revs. Royce Addis and Bill Rigsby. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will take place next month at Arlington National cemetery will full military honors.
The Rev. Thomas earned a Masters of Theology degree from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. During World War II he served his country as a Merchant Marine and later in the Korean War as a first lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was highly decorated, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and was a F-86 fighter pilot for the North Carolina Air National Guard. He was a commercial pilot for Trans World Airlines for many years and was also employed as a private corporate pilot. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and pontificator. He was most recently a member of Norris First Baptist Church. Prior to his move to Liberty, the Rev. Thomas was pastor of Little Stephens Creek Baptist Church in Edgefield and later worked for the Saluda Baptist Association.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Morton Thomas; two daughters, Debra Paysinger and her husband Ben Paysinger M.D. of Columbia, Susan Braun and her husband Eric Braun of Alexandria, Va; a son, Stephen Thomas and his wife Lisa of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Zanita Thomas of Lake Mary, Fla.; a brother, Jack L. Thomas of Spartanburg; and even grandchildren, Kristen Paysinger M.D., Daniel Paysinger, Meredith Paysinger, Nicholas Braun, Olivia Braun, Lauren Thomas and Samuel Thomas.
He was predeceased by a sister and seven brothers.
