Funeral services for Mr. Johnny Washington, of Aiken, were held Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at Old Rosemary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Henry Curry, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Washington was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Harris Washington; two daughters, Viola Mountrie (Eugene), Aiken, and Johnnie Mae Mealing (Joseph), Aiken; two brothers, Willie Williams, Trenton, and Lloyd Washington, Aiken; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ruth Quattlebaum Edwards
Mrs. Ruth Quattlebaum Edwards, 87, wife of the late Jack Edwards, of Lakeview Drive in Johnston, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at Johnston United Methodist Church. Burial was in Mt. of Olives cemetery.
Mrs. Edwards was a native of Saluda and was a member of Johnston United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Jacquelyn Edwards (Fred) Lewarne, Harrison Township, Mich., Deborah Edwards Holmes, North Augusta, Melanie Edwards (Tommy) Gibson, Edgefield; a son, Steve Radley (Gail) Edwards, Colbert, Ga; a sister, Lois Maffett, Modoc; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mae Lanier Bledsoe
Mrs. Mae Lanier Bledsoe, formerly of Bledsoe Road in Johnston, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010 at Saluda Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, with the Revs. William Hightower and Tina Thomas officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem United Methodist Church cemetery.
born in Edgefield County on May 16, 1923 and a daughter of the late John Sheppard “Shep” and Bertha Collins Lanier, she was the wife of the late Ervin Odell Bledsoe. She was a graduate of Johnston High School and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church where she served in many positions as a pillar of the church. She was an avid community volunteer, serving in many capacities.
Surviving are her two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane B. Locke of Mt. Pleasant and Doris B. and Elwyn Holmes of Saluda; five grandchildren, Tonya Belcher Cerce (David), Asheville, N.C., Tasha Belcher Yates (Brian), Hico, West Va., Kirk Lanier Holmes, Clemson, William Elwyn Holmes and Amelia Helen Holmes, both of Saluda; a great-grandson, Dale Cerce, Asheville, N.C.; two nephews, Lester N. Padgett, San Antonio, Texas, and Harold S. Butler, Ninety Six; and two nieces, Patricia Lanier Holmes, Johnston, and Becky Butler Timms, Ninety Six.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Robert Lanier of Johnston; a sister, Ethel Lanier Butler, Ninety Six; and a son-in-law, Lynwood “Bud” D. Locke Jr., Mt. Pleasant.

Ellie Mae Bussey
Mrs. Ellie Mae Bussey, of North Augusta, wife of the late Rev. Jordan Bussey, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at NHC Healthcare of North Augusta.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 11 a.m. at Hammond Grove Word Power Ministry, with the Rev. Bobby G. Hankerson officiating. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Bussey, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Hammond Grove Word Power Ministry.
Survivors include two devoted nieces, Rose Rivers and Alberta (Ernest) Butler, North Augusta; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Howard Benson
Mr. Howard Benson, 85, husband of Mrs. Eva Faulkner Benson, of Trenton, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011 at his residence.
Funeral services with full military honors were held Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel, with Chaplain Dexter Lambert officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Hill cemetery in North Augusta.
Mr. Benson served his country with the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired after 20 years of service as a technical sergeant. Mr. Benson also served as an air police supervisor while stationed at Hunter Air Force Base. He was a member of Pine View Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Benson is survived by his children, Judy Mason (Rocky), Ray Benson, Debbie Wasden (Walt), Johnnie Pollock (Jan), Eva Schlachter (Greg), Rita Benson, Tommy Benson (Miriam), and Mary Stacy; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jerry E. Berger
A memorial service with military honors for Mr. Jerry E. Berger, 77, of Trenton, husband of Sylvia Weidner Berger and son of the late Jerry Berger and the late Irene Magazine Berger, was held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Breezy Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert Riley officiating.
He was born in Hutchinson, Kan. but has been a resident of Graniteville for the past 12 years and prior to that, has been a resident of the CSRA for over 42 years. He was a dedicated member of Breezy Hill Baptist Church in Graniteville. He was a US Army veteran having bravely served his country during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jeanette Berger and Terri Lynn Meggs both of Martinez, Ga., and Lori Ahlbrandt of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons, Robert Berger of San Diego, Calif., Jeffrey Berger of Augusta, Ga., Ray Boling of Kansas City, Mo., and Troy Boling of Tulsa, Okla..; sisters, Christine Lavine of San Diego, Calif., Judy Hatton of Dayton, Ill. and Sandra Dalle Williams of California.; 14 grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

James Martin Herndon
Mr. James Martin Herndon, 60, of Pawley’s Island, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Georgetown. Officiating was the Rev. Dr. Ted A. Sherrill. Burial was in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Herndon was born in Augusta, Ga. on Sept. 10, 1951, a son of the late Nolan Anderson Herndon, a "Doolittle Raider, " and Julia Crouch Herndon. He grew up in Edgefield and graduated from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Herndon was a member of First Baptist Church in Georgetown and the Billy Douglas Sunday School Class. He lived in Pawleys Island since 1974 and worked for Arcelor Mittal USA-Georgetown for 37 years. Mr. Herndon was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah Overton Herndon of Pawleys Island; two sons, Jason Herndon (Jennifer) of Charleston and Justin Herndon of Pawleys Island; and a brother, Nolan Herndon, Jr. (Sue) of Columbia.

Michael Butler

Charles Wilbron Camp
Mr. Charles Wilbron Camp, 78, of Bream Oak Road in Trenton, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010.
Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer cemetery in Trenton with military honors.
Mr. Camp was born in Ooltewah, Tenn. He joined the Air Force and relocated to Shreveport, La. After service, he went to work for the Kansas City Railroad and retired 40 years later. He and his wife relocated to Trenton and became members of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 154 in Johnston.
He is survived by his wife, Doris S. Camp; two sisters, Mrs. Dessie L. Camp Poteete, Collegedale, Tenn., and Ms. Crystal Jenkins, Ooltewah, Tenn.; and one brother, Randall Camp, Harrison, Tenn.

Mary Enid Arnold
On Sunday, November 22, 2010, Mary Enid Arnold, age 86, passed into eternal glory after a short battle with Pancreatic cancer. Mary was born in England, and in 1944 she married
Rev. Alec Stuart Arnold and spent 63 wonderful years working alongside him in his various duties as a Baptist Minister and Bible teacher. In 1968 the family immigrated to Nashville, TN. Mary loved to write poetry, play tennis, travel, paint, design and was interested in natural nutrition. She loved teaching Sunday School in the various churches where she and Stuart were members. She is survived by her 2 children and their families: Julia and Charles Moore of Columbia SC and Paul Arnold of Charleston, SC. She is survived by 4 grandchildren: Rachel Hutchens, Andrea Moore, Chuck Moore and Katelyn Arnold. She will be missed by all who have loved her over the years. A Service will be held at Chapin United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 24 at 10:00 am. The church address is: 415 Lexington Ave, Chapin SC 29036. Ruth Jones Daniel
Ruth Jones Daniel, of Lamar, wife of the Rev. Billy Daniel, died Jan.13, 2010.
A memorial service was held on Jan. 14 at the Belk King Funeral Home Chapel in Lamar, and the funeral and graveside services were held on Jan.15 at Pisgah United Methodist Church in Galivants Ferry.
Mrs. Daniel was born to the late Jacob Rowell and Bessie Jordan Jones of Galivants Ferry on May 23, 1937. She was a 1954 graduate of Aynor High School and a 1957 graduate of The South Carolina Baptist School of Nursing. While living in Trenton and serving as the pastor's wife at Ebenezer Baptist Church during the 1970s, Mrs. Daniel ministered as an R.N. at The Edgefield County Nursing Home and later at The Edgefield County Hospital. For the past 26 years, she served at The Hampton Nursing Center/Sumter Health and Rehab in Sumter. She began her tenure there as the director of nursing, and following her retirement in 2002, she continued to serve as a part-time R.N. until her death.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Donna Daniel Teague and her husband Sam of Greenville, and Teresa Daniel Stewart of Florence; sons, David Daniel, both of Lamar; grandchildren, Jordan Teague of Nashville, Daniel Teague of Greenville, Adam Daniel of Lamar, and Andrew and Christina Stewart of Florence; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Bethany Robb of Lexington, Trudy Shockley of Simpsonville, Della Kirkland of Batesburg, Yvonne Stokes of Denmark, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Daniel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Tom Jones, Rev. J.R. Jones, Jr., and Steve Jones; and sisters, Marie Thompkins, Elnita Smith, and Nancy Casey.

Mr. Sylvester Meriwether, of Courtney Road in Trenton, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at his residence.
