Maude Lybrand Rawl
Mrs. Maude Lybrand Rawl, 94, of Johnston, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 in Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Johnston with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Rawl was a native of Johnston, the daughter of the late Eddie Lee and Fannie Lybrand, and the widow of W. Hendrix Rawl. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She was also a member of Mt. Calvary V.I.P. She was retired from Mount Vernon Mills.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Walter) Hennies and Gloria (Phillip) Bryan, Edgefield; a sister, Myrtis DeLoach of Calhoun, Ga.; a brother, Rufus Lybrand of Johnston; grandchildren, Laurie Seel of Ballentine, Brooke (Patty) Bryan of Graniteville, and Wesley (Allison) of Carlsbad, New Mexico; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Mallory Bryan, Bryson, Jack and Shelby Bryan, and Maggie and Alex Seel.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Charles E. Lybrand.

Ms. Amanda Tillman, of Plum Branch Road in Edgefield, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at Lexington Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Bolton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Tillman, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, April Tillman (Derrick) Watts, Lexington; her mother, Katrina C. Harrison, Edgefield; seven sisters, Alice Parker, Queens, N.Y., Sarah (Rev. Calvin) Bolton and Minnie Wright, Decatur, Ga., Amy Pressley, Trenton, Denise (Abner) Thomas, Aiken, Paulette Ross, Lithonia, Ga., and Pauline Harrison, Augusta, Ga.; four brothers, Asa (Odessa) Harrison, Augusta, Ga., Stanley Harrison, Greenwood; Larry (Tina) Harrison, Orlando, Fla., and Glen (Maxine) Harrison, Piedmont, SC; an aunt; three uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. Johnny W. Barton Jr., 52, of Old Four Notch Road in Ridge Spring, who died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., were held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at Zion Fair Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Wright officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Barton; his father, Johnny Barton Sr., Ridge Spring; two sons, Lamarcus Barton, Charlotte, N.C., and Winslow Hendrix, Sand Hill; two daughters, Tasha and Kimberly Hendrix, both of Sand Hill; a sister, Emma Gowdy, Augusta, Ga.; two brothers, Michael Barton and Morris Barton, both of Ridge Spring; 13 grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; 11 aunts; three great-aunts; seven uncles; and a host of other relatives.

Mrs. Susie Frances Carroll, of Blanche Drive in North Augusta, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010.
The Funeral Mass and Prayer Vigil were celebrated Sunday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Cherian Thalakulam, celebrant. Final Blessing was said Monday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. at the church, with burial following at Pineview Memorial Park.

Broadus J. Hatcher
Mr. Broadus J. Hatcher, 86, of Yonce Pond Road in Johnston, died Sunday Feb. 14, 2010 at the V.A. Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church cemetery in Johnston with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Hatcher was a native of Edgefield County and was of the Baptist faith. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the retired owner of Hatcher Plumbing Company.
He was a father to Doley Lamb, Kathy New and Doris Langley. He is also survived by a sister, Cleo Boatwright, Saluda; and several nieces and nephews. Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Angelle Bussey Herring
Mrs. Angelle Bussey Herring, 85, of Edgefield, wife of the late William Clifton “W.C.” Herring, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Cartin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Herring was a native of Edgefield County and retired from the Bank of Trenton (now First Citizens Bank) after many years of service as a bank teller. She was a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church and was active in the Red Oak Grove WMU.
She is survived by her loving family who thought and cared for her as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Eugene C. Percival
Mr. Eugene C. Percival, of Americus, Ga., died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 13, at 2 p.m. at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church in Modoc, with the Rev. Steve Cartin officiating.
Mr. Percival served 21 years in the U.S. Navy, and served during World War II and the Korean conflict. He also served in Vietnam as a technical advisor. After retirement from the Navy, he then taught Avionics Electronics at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga. until he retired in 1990. After retirement, he and his wife moved to a small farm in McAlphin, Fla. where they remained until 2008.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Viola J. Percival, whom he married
in Quartzite, Ariz., on Dec. 28, 1944. He is also survived by his children, John, James (Mickey), Anita Dewey, Betty Hamman and Ray; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elsie Dorn, Mary Alice Hughes and Thelma Kube; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Edgefield County and surrounding areas of the Southeast.

Samuel Edward “Ed” Stillwell
Mr. Samuel Edward “Ed” Stillwell, 92, of Wesley Commons, Greenwood, and formerly of North Augusta, husband of Ada Summers Stillwell, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.
A Service of Death and Resurrection was held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, North Augusta, with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Adams, the Rev. Dr. John M. Younginer Jr. and the Rev. Barrett Alewine officiating.
born in Edgefield County, he was a son of the late Joseph Robert and Mattie Ethel Clark Stillwell. He was a graduate of Johnston High School and was a 1939 graduate of the University of South Carolina where he was a three-year Letterman in football and later received his master’s degree in education. He was an educator, having taught and coached all sports at Dillon High School from 1939 to 1945. He then moved to North Augusta, where he coached football, baseball and basketball, taught history and was principal of North Augusta High School. From 1951 through his retirement in 1977, he served as principal only. In 2005, he was awarded The Order of the Silver Crescent and in 2008, was inducted into the North Augusta Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Stillwell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as a member of several church boards; helped organize the Stillwell Sunday School Class; and taught it for more than 50 years. He was currently a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Greenwood.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Dee Gulledge and her husband, Max, of Irmo; a son, the Rev. Robert E. Stillwell and his wife Marian of Anderson; and grandchildren John Edward Stillwell and Philip Adam Stillwell, both of Greenville, Joseph Welborn Stillwell of Charleston, and Annah Hiers and her husband Michael of Lugoff.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Hendrix Stillwell and Luther Earl Stillwell.

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” McCary Cook, 77, of Edgefield, wife of the late Henry Cook, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2010 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funerla Home. Burial was in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Mrs. Cook was a native of Edgefield County and was a member of Edgefield Church of God. She was a retired textile worker.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Miller and Lisa Lee, both of Hephzibah, Ga., and Fay Benton, Augusta, Ga.; a sister, Ruby McCary, Edgefield; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kevin Dale McGee, 31, of Beech Island Avenue in Beech Island, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. McGee was born in Augusta, Ga. and he attended the Second Baptist Church in Beech Island.

Mr. Marshall Meriwether Sr., 83, of Courtney Road in Trenton, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010.

Mr. Meriwether, a native of Edgefield County, was a member and deacon of Poplar Spring Baptist Church.

Virginia Elizabeth Minton
Graveside services for Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Minton, 79, of Jasper Road in Modoc, who died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 were conducted Friday, Feb. 5, at 2 p.m. at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. John Los officiated.
Mrs. Minton was a native of Baltimore, Md., having made Modoc her home for the past 43 years. She was a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church and had retired from Federal Pacific.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Lee Gilbert, North Augusta; a son and daughter-in-law, Glen and Nancy Minton, Modoc; a brother, Wallace “Buddy” Grogg, Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, David Percival, Richard Percival, Douglas Percival, Wallace Percival; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a former son-in-law, Jimmy Percival, Modoc.
Mrs. Minton was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Minton.
