Tillman David Rodgers Sr.
Mr. Tillman David Rodgers Sr., of Johnston, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield Church of Gd, with burial in Travis Park cemetery in Saluda.
Mr. Rodgers was born in Saluda County and was of the Catholic faith. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II and was a retired textile worker.
Survivors include a son, James A. (Buster) Rodgers, Edgefield, a daughter, Mary Lena Shealy, Saluda; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Tommy Jude Sherlock
Tommy Jude Sherlock, of St. Anthony Street in North Augusta, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010.
The Mass of Christian Burial and Prayer Vigil were held Monday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, with Father Cherian Thalakulam, celebrant. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Elizabeth Sanders Thomas, wife of the late Melvin Hue Thomas, of North Augusta, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at Westwood Nursing Home.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 11:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church and had retired from King Mill after 35 years of service. She enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include her son, Everett Thomas (Julie), North Augusta; two sisters, Ann Mitchell (Charles), Orange Beach, Fla., and Mary Rikard, Trenton; and a grandson, Travis Smith.

Susie Mae Williams
Susie Mae Williams, 74, of Johnston, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at Lockhart Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
born in Saluda County, she was the daughter of the late Willie Lee Stevens and the late John Bennett. She was a member of Lockhart Baptist Church.
She is survived by five sons, Thomas (Bessie) Williams Jr., Jerry Williams and Stevens Williams, all of Saluda, Johnny (Katherine) Williams, Trenton, and Ricky Williams, Greenwood; two daughters, Patsy Williams and Denise Williams, both of Saluda; stepmother, Thelma J. Burt; 11 brothers, Henry B. Stevens, Coral Johnson, Willie T. Johnson, Julius Johnson, James D. Johnson, Billy Johnson, Eugene Johnson, Cornell Johnson, David Bennett, John A. Bennett, John A. Bennett and Samuel Bates; 11 sisters, Diane Graham, Shelia Williams, Annette Johnson, Loretta Williams, Drusilla Harris, Annie L. Mrs. Carolyn Anne Baugh, 70, of Clarks Hill, wife of the late Victor Baugh, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2010 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Patton officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Baugh was a lifelong board member of Lost Wilderness Property Owner’s Association and also a member of Clarks Hill Lost Wilderness Volunteer Fire Department. She was also a breast cancer survivor.
She is survived by her two daughters, Sheryl Basey and Vickie Nickles; her four grandchildren, Tiffany Nickles, Specialist Zachary Nickles, Brian Basey and Amber Basey; her two great-grandchildren, Connor Silas and Brileigh Basey; and her beloved dog CoCo.

Ellen Merriweather Callaham
Mrs. Ellen Merriweather Callaham, 87, of Courtney Road in Trenton, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at Trinity Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. at Poplar Spring Baptist Church, with the Revs. Donnell Meriweather and Edward Lloyd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Callaham, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley (William) Gordon, Martinez, Ga.; two sons, Ronnie Callaham and Charles Callaham, Staten Island, N.Y.; a brother, Marshall (Rose) Merriweather, Trenton; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Merriweather, Trenton, and Lillie Callaham, Edgefield; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Catherine Ann Kairnan
Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Ann Kairnan, 76, a resident of Hammond House and former resident of Ayr Drive in Belvedere, who died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010 were conducted Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Heyward Horton officiating.
Burial was in Sunset Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Kairnan was a native of Edgefield County, having made Belvedere her home for the past 40 years. She traveled throughout the world as a military wife and retired from Kendall Company in Augusta, Ga. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Susie Kitchings, Perry, Mary Hastings, Edgefield, and Frances Cook, Timberlake, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Jewel Holsomback, Johnston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard E. Kairnan, and her companion of many years, Marvin F. Atkinson.

Lettie Crouch Morris
Funeral services for Mrs. Lettie Crouch Morris, 100, of Edisto Street in Johnston, who died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, were conducted Monday, Feb. 1, at 3 p.m. at Bland Funeral Home Chapel in Johnston, with the Revs. Thomas Barwick and Lowell Clark officiating. Burial was in Mt. of Olives cemetery.
Mrs. Morris, a native of Saluda County, was the wife of the late George W. Morris and daughter of the late Martin Luther and Mamie Rankin Crouch. She was born on Oct. 24, 1909 and was a homemaker, a member of Johnston First Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy (Jack) Reel; a grandchild, Gloria (Randy) Brown, Aiken; two great-grandchildren, Ashleigh (Brian) Gibbons and Benji Brown, all of Aiken; a sister, Julia Herndon, of West Columbia, formerly of Edgefield.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Ralph W. Morris and an infant son; four sisters; and five brothers.

Mrs. Carrie Patten Ramsey, 85, of Edgefield, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at Trinity Mission Health & Rehab Center in Edgefield.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Edward Lloyd officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ramsey, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Mrs. Evelyn W. Williams, 82, of Ridge Spring, wife of the late Robert P. Williams Sr. and daughter of the late Richard A. Williams Sr. and the late Lillie McDaniel Williams, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010.
A celebration of her life was held Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. at Napier Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Wilson officiating. Burial followed in Graniteville cemetery.
She was born in and was a lifelong resident of Aiken County and was of the Baptist faith. She retired from Graniteville Company as a clerk in the shipping department.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert P. Williams Jr. and Carol Williams of North Augusta; daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis Thomas of Holiday, Fla., Cathy Hallex and her husband Edward Hallex, Evelyn Bess Harrellson and her husband Jack Harrellson, Lynda Thacker and her husband Coke Thacker, all of Aiken; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard A. Williams Jr. and his wife Nancy Williams of Redmond, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by sons, John A. Williams and Kim A. Williams; a brother, Charles A. Williams; and a sister, Vera W. Thomas.

Mrs. Angelle Bussey Herring, 85, of Edgefield, wife of the late William Clifton “W.C.” Herring, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010 at Edgefield County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Cartin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Herring was a native of Edgefield County and retired from the Bank of Trenton (now First Citizens Bank) after many years of service as a bank teller. She was a member of Red Oak Grove Baptist Church and was active in the Red Oak Grove WMU.
She is survived by her loving family who thought and cared for her as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mr. Ronald Lee Adams, 74, of Edgefield Road in Trenton, husband of Gloria Hartley Adams, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services were Thursday, June10, at 11 a.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home, with burial in Sunset Gardens Memorial Park in Edgefield.
Mr. Adams was born in Edgefield County and was a member of Philippi Baptist Church. He was a retired purchasing manager at Graniteville Company Woodhead Division.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by two sons, Wayne (Meg) Adams, Newberry, Mark (Cynthia) Adams, Trenton; a daughter, Rhonda (Carl) Runion, Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Veronica Rodriguez, Jacob and Sarah Adams, Brooke, Ethan and Millie Runion; a brother, Lucian D. (Blanche) Adams; and a sister, Joyce (Jack) Quattlebaum.

Rev. Dr. Kenneth John Carvalho
The Rev. Dr. Kenneth John Carvalho, 69, of Ridge Spring, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Carolinas Hospital in Florence.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Town Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Brancie Stephens, Steve Ross and Jeff Strong officiating. Burial was in Town Creek Baptist Church cemetery with military honors.
He was born in New Bedford, Mass. to the late Manuel and Mary Costa Carvalho. He was an Army veteran. He was a full-time pastor who had preached in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, Ohio and Tennessee over the past 35 years. He was currently pastor of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, Crawfordville, Ga. He was saved, called to the ministry and ordained at Town Creek Baptist Church in Aiken.. Survivors include his wife, Susan Redd Carvalho; children, Jennifer (Matt) Carson, Florence, and Kevin Carvalho, Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Austin Greene, Caleb Carson; and son-in-law, Dan Greene, Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Traci Greene.
